  • I would keep that body, mk2's in that condition are hard to find..

  • ha ha in the beginning of the video "Start Me Up" is on the radio lol

  • I am a big fan of Davidsfarm because of all these vids. They're awesome!

  • Dave, please tell me you don't use Fram filters, and that it came with the car...=)

  • Dave, would you happen to know where I might be able to find one of those engines for really cheap. It doesn't even have to work. All I'm looking for are the main bearing caps since mine were totally screwed

  • "Start Me Up" in the background! NICE!!!

  • Dave, did you really put a turbo on this engine? Does the engine withstand the higher pressures and forces without any modifications?

  • @1717BY I have the (factory) turbo version of this exact engine sitting in my shed right now. It's the same block for both. Also, in case you were wondering, these were before VW's TDI line, which started in late 1995

  • Great tunes, nice shop. Love your life, Dave.

  • did you put the turbo on or did it come with the engine?

  • I thought your son was taken from you. Was this from long ago?

  • @1320carlover 2 of his sons have been kidnapped by their crazy mothers, but adam still maintains a fine relationship with dave, as adam's mom is smarter than the others and knows how to raise a child

  • @pretzel1253 AHMEN !

  • Just asking but do you think you could make a video on air tools??

    davesfarm rocks :)

  • THIS IS IT!! This is the video that made me subscribe in the first place=)

  • This Diesel sounds SOOO Good,i love the tractorish rumbling, you can't beat a diesel sound.

  • Simple question. The relay to my glow plugs broke a couple of weeks ago so I have just removed it. Now its currently winter and I know that if I can rotate the engine enough it will heat the cylinders and therefore start. Do you think I could be doing any damage to the engine doing this?, I really think its not a problem other than perhaps burning out the starter earlier or killing the battery quicker.

  • What maintenance is required to keep it in shape? Any modification on mounting and proper workings? Also what rpm does it idle at? I'm considering getting a motor of this stature and putting it in a custom car or dune type vehicle.

  • i thought your van was a turbodiesel ?

  • @740diesel He converted it to be a turbo after haha

  • Dave, other than kickass 54 mpg's, How is the performance of the 4cyl diesel in the minivan?

  • @1foxtrot70 as fast as an automatic slow 4 cylinder car

  • cool as allways :D

  • Nice to find a repair video that I've never seen before. Why do you need a bottle to hold fuel that is "coming out"? Where does that fuel in the second bottle come from? Why not just one fuel bottle?

  • @spelunkerd extra fuel goes through the injector pump to cool it that would normally go back to the tank.

  • @Davidsfarmlives Thanks for your reply. I find it amazing that modern fuel pumps (evidently gas and diesel) use fuel to cool the body of the pump, rather than something more complicated.

  • @spelunkerd They also use the backpressure provided by closed injectors/regulators to prevent the armature from rattling around and damaging bushings. If you run a pump dry the A/F ratio in the pump can be ignited by sparking inside the armature.

  • Nice to see this vid, great to see you with your son.

do you have plans what to do with this engine ?

  • @djverhulst it is in my van.

  • @Davidsfarmlives i thought you had a 1.9 low presure turbo 75 hp ,, this a 1.6 with 55 hp not that fast in a van.....

  • @djverhulst but i turboed it.

  • @Davidsfarmlives I found a torrent with all of the old videos and from his vlog channel Idk if you are aware of it being on there or not cause you can upload all of the old videos

  • 4+ Years ago DavesFarm Rocked, is just sad all the bullshit broke a man or did they?

  • What was the seemingly slow turning white-ish colored thing at the very back of the engine on the bottom?

  • @Jonodude0 Differential outputs. The CV joints will join to these then axels out to the wheel hubs.

  • Was It From That VW ?

+ You Put The Diesel In The White Van First.

  • These videos are like attending the David Rock academy for Mechanical and Chemical engineering. It's no wonder why Dave was the #1 most watched automotive channel. He still rocks!

    VT247

  • like dave have a engine to play with lol

  • Classic dave's farm.

  • shit bro thats awsome

  • Yeah this is where I first started watching the original Dave's farm

  • 1:04 ouch!! :P

  • Great video

  • what song is playing at 0:58?

  • Yep, before you converted it to Turbo?

  • those VW 020 transmissions are a mystery, some have the diff come apart in less than 100,000 km while others have damn near a million km's on them (especially the diesel cars) and still work fine.

  • @MXSLICK

Every vehicle has its bad models now and again. I'm a Chevy guy, and I knew of this one fellow who had a 1993 Suburban that, in 300,000 miles, went through three engines and four transmissions. Never saw another Chevy, 1993 Suburban or otherwise, with that kind of bad luck. Usually one engine will last you that long unless you just beat the heck out of it all the time.

  • @Jerkwad152 go a 92 gmc suburban and it has over 320,000km same engine and trans

  • @MXSLICK i blew 3 trannies with easy driving

  • @Davidsfarmlives isn't this when you put it in your 90 van not ur 95 one

  • @MOTERHEAD69 this motor was in both my vans

  • @MXSLICK For a gas, the mk2's all came with the 020, even the 16v... better off to find a 02A out of early model 16v passat ;)

  • my hair looks like the same thing when I wake up. he probably hasn't taken a shower yet.

  • German engineering at its finest

  • i just rediscovered your new channel FUCK YEAH!

  • hey you are back, i am very glad :)

  • @slubert23 The world is a bit better again hey.

  • great video as always! :)

  • this is a old vid

  • DIESELS ROCK ! when they knock :)

  • got any videos of you converting it to turbo?

  • nice video dave welcome back I wondered where you went, I didn t see you on my page so I went looking for you.

  • i always loved this video the stones in the back ground "start me up" playing how fitting. this video just shows somthing some people have never seen before a running motor on a chain

  • Whoah, it's really surreal seeing a running motor just hanging there.

It's like a human heart removed from the body, but still beating.

  • press 1 for THE C

  • press 4 to hear dave say Negro!

  • @DaveTibbetts no it sounds like wussy

  • This is my first Davesfarm video I saw back in the day.

  • Free DIESEL Jetta, free 3 free Cheviacs, a free '76 New Yorker, a free '67 Cadillac, and numerous other free cars I presume. Dave no wonder you have a hater club lol. Besides the fact that you were making all that money on your old channel. I would've absolutely loved to have any of those cars.

  • these vids remind me of the davesfarm like 4 years ago, the best .Dave,i know it takes time but dont forget fixing vids of weedwackers and small engines. they were great and extremely informative!

  • Haha u crazy motherfucker.

  • Those old VW diesels keep going forever. Toyota diesels from the same era are also almost indestructable too, when I was in Ireland I was in a diesel toyota taxi that had nearly 700.000 miles on the clock.

  • Rick usually takes the fuel out,,, name that bottle after him..

  • LOL I love how the engine is waiting to be started and rolling stones start me up is on in the background

  • cool

  • i think dave can start anything!!!

  • Hey dave whats your opinion on sopa and pipa?

  • How does vacuum on a diesel work?

  • love jetta diesels!

  • dave you should put one of these into an old jeep wrangler

  • those motor run great on used vegy oil transmission oil lol cool motor

  • Find it funny how electricity never exists to folks in Ontario...its always hydro, lol.

  • awesome motor!!

  • that thing had a transfercase on it? you should have made a 4wd dodge mini van lol

  • @slowscort where do you see a transfer case?! its a front wheel drive transaxle!

  • @backyardjay My bad just kind of looked like one for a moment i am used to working on rear wheel drive vehicles and 4wheel drive vehicles never really pulled a motor or anything on a front wheel drive

  • My first Davidsfarm vid. I love this one!

  • I remember this vid!

  • cool!!

  • i remember this video. the first video i ever watched on davesfarm :) .. classic

  • I think see a FRAM oil filter on that thing, tisk tisk.......

  • that's germany....

  • When I worked on those old GM 6.5 diesels I would gun those with the intake off to check for line leaks.

  • Why does a diesel Knock & ping like that?

  • @Luna7ick because they run on really high compression

  • @roudyroy1 does the (what sounds like metal parts) hitting damage the engine?

  • @Luna7ick Not at all, diesel engines run just like gasoline engines, they are CI (compression ignition) engines, the pressure in the combustion chamber reaches at least 700PSI depending on bore, stroke, compression ratio, and other variables like piston head design, carbon particles... etc. Also, mechanically controlled (via cam lobes) fuel injection was used on most diesels for years. The block is engineered to take the kind of pressures required for diesel combustion.

  • @Luna7ick no, its just high compression or a little pre fire. all diesel motors sound like that

  • you should build another go kart with this motor!!!

  • Dave why do you refer to electricity as hydo ? It's not hydro-electric if it's not coming from an hydro electric power plant or battery ?

  • those are neath little engines that saved a lot of fuel

  • how were you cooling it?

  • start the swinging diesel!

  • come on dave! give us some coldstarts or some fun in the snow!

  • Adam could care less...

  • The beginning of the white diesel van!!!!!!!

  • Rocks

  • fat sound!

  • this is the first davesfarm vid i saw back in 07, i subbed because of it

  • Dave you look like a mess man, looks like you need alot of sleep and a hair cut lol

  • @hp11208 he recorded this years ago..

  • @robiniroven Okay but still needs to take care of himself all these chemicals odor and stuff making people more sick.

  • @hp11208 i just got done pulling that motor so i was kinda messed up.

  • @Davidsfarmlives alright man take care of yourself especially when working on or around things.Dave farm Rocks lo.

  • @Davidsfarmlives when you did the diesel swap in your van did you have to change the fuel tank and lines since it didnt run on diesel before

  • @12345senoj no ,

  • @hp11208 This is footage from many years ago

  • o lol i saved this vid on my external hard disk 1 year ago

  • Works like a charm! I had hell with my 3 cylinder diesel mower when the ignition switch stopped working while it was running. Nothing can kill a diesel, especially with MECHANICAL fuel injector. Eventually we killed it by taking the intake hose off, and putting my hand on the intake. Quite the hickey I had after. The vacuum that it could run in is amazing!

  • free?

  • So the wire you disconnected was for the glow plug to kill it? I thought diesels only needed the glow plug to start. I don't know much about diesels so im probably wrong.

  • @w1ldyovvnz i think it was a ground, not sure though

  • @w1ldyovvnz

Maybe it needs to warm up to? dunno self^^

  • @w1ldyovvnz It was the fuel pump wire, only way to stop a diesel is to stop fuel flow.

  • @w1ldyovvnz If you look closely there is two wires. One is for the glowplugs and the other one is for the fuel cut off solenoid witch Dave pulled the cabel to stop the engine.

  • I thought this motor came out of the old white van?

  • @KennayLee it is the same motor, he first put it in the white van then later put it in the blue van

  • @KennayLee kind of

  • @Davidsfarmlives how many miles per galon dose this diesel get

  • @jeremylee99100 54 mpg in my van.

  • @KennayLee it did but it came out of the jetta first this video is old

  • @KennayLee this motor went in the white van and then out

  • @KennayLee this video was taken BEFORE he put it in the White van. then Time and Rust took their toll, and he transferred the engine to his Blue 1995 Caravan.

  • That started too easy .

  • I wonder if Dave will ever getaway partnership again,I hope he comes back like before

  • did you ever make a video about how you turbo'd that motor?

  • @ukfreeride no, all i did was just switch all the turbo parts over

  • @Davidsfarmlives

oh ok, what boost have you got it running at? have you had any problems with the stock rings?

  • @ukfreeride been using as a turbo for years now and no problems

  • First

  • @XploiTee try again

  • @theboredredneck .... :(

  • i remember this from the old channel
