I find meditation w/absolute truth alone/in mind is the simplest way to get in touch w/ones inner self. I meditate on an absolute truth that my spirit & that which with it communes with loves me no matter what, makes no demands that I love it back, only that I know it loves me. This, when meditated upon can have a very profound effect if u can keep only that thought in their mind/garden. Mind's like a garden, what u sow into it returns 10-fold. Most have no truth only weeds/lies, sown by others.
The ego is a function of the mind - because the human mind is self-aware.
The mind takes all of your experiences, expectations and opinions of you, and it weaves them together into a net which the mind calls "me".
If the Ego is a creation of the MIND - the functionality of the ego will depend on how the mind functions. If a mind is dysfunctional - the ego will try to assess the world in and of itself - and that is IMPOSSIBLE for it to do. Only the deeper connection to Spirit can see reality.
... So, the ego is then disconnected from Truth - when it works in and of itself it's insane. It is pursuing pleasure, running from pain - and it can't see the truth so it *imposes* it's own opinions onto reality and thinks those opinions are *truth*.

Yes, absolutely. The ego is in no way an enemy, but an expression of infinite love, as everything else. But, I would say that the ego is already perfect in it's natural state. Our ego is supposed to be a representation of the divine, but here our minds are being programmed left to right, so our egos are mostly an expression of what others expect us to be. We create false self-images based on what the outside tells us we are, and project that as ourselves to "get along" with perceived reality.

When the ego is overindulged or neglected, it can become a problem. All your neg habits can come from ego, but so can you postitive habits. The shadow is only the negative aspects of the ego, or those aspects we try to deny in ourselves.

i would argue that ego is a necessity for spiritual growth. of course, we will ultimately have to give up the ego once we realize our true self. but without negativity, evolution is halted because everybody would be content as is. i think the ego could be partially responsible for creating negativity so that we will recognize it and work on letting it go
