I'm a senior neurology student, so you got to trust me when I say it's very improbable for humans to be afraid of breathing. Next to that, your lungs aren't getting blacker and blacker by breathing. Happens when you smoke though, but when you do smoke you certainly aren't afraid to breath air.

The human beings we are now will never achieve world peace, I agree. However, we can still develop, evolve. I hope someday there will be a species which can control its emotions and won't let them influence their decisions. I hope that that species will not try to make the individual benefit, but that it will try to make the group benefit. Once we achieve that we will truly be intelligent and I have no doubt that world peace will be achieved. This isn't just fantasy, it could be reality.

nee, ze schreven hun kalender niet vanaf een speciaal punt in de geschiedenis naar de toekomst en stopte op 2012, ze namen een punt in de voor hun verre toekomst, in december 2012, en telde vanaf daar terug.

Sure, she's right in saying that we must take regard of the consequence's, but it's also humanely very improbable that we will... She's telling a puppy not to pee on the carpet, but he will, until one day he finds out the hard way that he shouldn't. I'm not the type of person that goes on and on trying to "win" a discussion on a website, so I'll just make this one response. I'm a senior neurology student, so you got to trust me when I say it's very improbable for humans to be afraid of breathing. Next to that, your lungs aren't getting blacker and blacker by breathing. Happens when you smoke though, but when you do smoke you certainly aren't afraid to breath air.

Well, that is not really an environmental issue... The air is much cleaner than it was a few hundred years ago.. Humans are getting older and taller and so on. Yes, smoking is a ridiculous habit, I completely agree with you, but I'd rather worry about other species that are destroyed thanks to our mass-consumption, boats, traditions and so on.
All I really wanted to say is that we will have to learn it the hard way... Which is also a ridiculous habit...

I really think that the reason it hasn't been solved today is because the people who CAN solve it don't really want to. Maybe it's laziness or maybe it's greediness, I don't know, but I think it's one of those two.

Exactly, what can one man do? I think it would be extremely hard for one man to make a change, however, I think it CAN be done (look at gandhi or Martin Luthor King). But I think that the real solution is for us to evolve further. Our brains just aren't capable of staying rational and practicing altruism forever continuously. We as a species just haven't matured yet. That is why I don't think we can achieve world peace (and other things alike) within the next millennium.

The human beings we are now will never achieve world peace, I agree. However, we can still develop, evolve. I hope someday there will be a species which can control its emotions and won't let them influence their decisions. I hope that that species will not try to make the individual benefit, but that it will try to make the group benefit. Once we achieve that we will truly be intelligent and I have no doubt that world peace will be achieved. This isn't just fantasy, it could be reality.
