@MachinimaCollector A regular season is comprised of 12 or 13 episodes on a cable series. In any case, with TWD the per episode budget is over 1 million dollars. I've read that they will use the comic/graphic novel as a sort of blue print. What works in a comic doesn't always translate well to the screen but Kirkland has a big hand in story so it should be very close to the comic. I think this show will be around for as long as The Sopranos was.

@Fianna10 I actually appreciate that they deviated somewhat. For one, Shane is still alive and kicking, and should provide the show a compelling foil for Rick to work from. Even Kirkman stated his regret at killing Shane off so early because he wasn't sure that the comic book series would be successful. Shane should serve as an interesting antagonist until the writers are able to incorperate other foils that are later to come.

@jstephenj I can’t really disagree with you about Shane, or the CDC for that matter, but thats not really the point. The graphic novel is excellently written and it doesn't need childish explosions and tacky countdowns to make it interesting - it was all about the characters breaking down in the face of horrific circumstances. I will keep an open mind but I don’t really see the point in calling it TWD if it’s going to be only vaguely similar. I've got a bad feeling about the 2nd series

@Fianna10 The producers plan on incorperating some of the more iconic events from the comic book series like Woodbury, Hershel's Farm, and The safety zone. However, they'll probably pad out those events with additional material, as well as characters who were not in the comic. Keep in mind that this is an adaptation and liberties are going to be taken where the writers feel they're warranted. Also, the creator, Robert Kirkman, sanctioned some of the changes.

@Fianna10 Another show, Dexter, was based on a novel. The first season was based on the first novel. The additional 4 seasons that followed deviated and went off in their own creative direction. Had the producers of the show followed the novel series to a tee, you would not have had season 2's amazing story arc, nor would you have had the opportunity to appreciate John Lithgow's chilling performance as serial killer Arthur Mitchell.

@Fianna10 Changes can be good, Dexter being a case in point. However, I think that The Walking Dead will be more faithful to the comic book series, even if it doesn't end up being a carbon copy version. Darabont is on record stating that he intends to explore Woodbury, as well as characters like Michonne and The Governor. I'm glad that the writers decided to keep Shane alive in the meantime, as I feel that he still has some milage left in him which was never exploited in the comic series.

@MachinimaCollector agreed but there is a reason for it being only six episodes. The powers that be at AMC only ordered six episodes because they didn't think they'd get an audience ( read female ). They had no idea the series would break ratings records for them. I'll tell you something... if I were an AMC executive I would have known from the pilot script that this was going to be BIG and would have ordered a full 13 episodes. But they didn't believe it would fly.

Just to let everyone know. There is no Episode 7, there will be no Episode 7. The next episode will be Season 2 Episode 1 and it will be released somewhere in october 2011.

aww they should have made the zombies AT LEAST moderately fast like in the 2004 remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead - so it would have been a lot more believable that the Military couldn't stop them and more dramatic. This is actually a smart way to make a show; release six episodes, get everyone talking and find an audience; in this case the people are screaming for more, but what if no one liked it or it just never found the audience?? This way they don't risk a lot of time and money making a full season and it gets people talking. when Season 2 finally does come out, there's a built-in fan-base

Nuclear reactors are even used on ice-breakers, which are not as essential to the survival of humanity as the CDC.
