It's really funny to read comments by uneducated American fans about Villeneuve and Montoya. They left for America because they weren't good enough anymore and were over the hill.
It takes far more talent to race in F1, the technical demands are far superior both from the tracks and from the car themselves. Indy cars are backwards and are very primitive. Thumbs up if you disagree.
@TheNodnarb66 Alessandro Zanardi, Lausitzring Eurospeedway, September 2001. He survived but both his legs were cut in the crash so that the surgeons had to remove all the lower part of the legs (from knees to feet).
The red things you see are flesh chunks from his legs... But he agreed another surgery months after that, which allowed doctors to replace his missing legs by protheses.
The only reason why there are so much more accdients in indy car is because they're very lax on driver safety in both the car and circuit designs, and rules in genera. Furthermore unlike European formulas, virtually anybody who has a financial backer can make it in, without the need for a special license. Consequently F1 drivers that go to indy succeed, but it never works out the other way around.
You need a Racing licence for any type of Automobile racing. Even for Karting. I have a National karting licence from WKA. For Formula 1 you need a FIA Super Licence in which are very expensive to even apply for. Plus, you make it sound like anybody off the streetcan go and race anythigelse but a Formula 1 car. Racing is VERY expensive. Karting is the lowest part of the ladder and it is very expensive. We spend over $20,000 a year on racing karts.
what an absolutely arrogant and incorrect statement. safety (especially medical safety) is the best in the world in indycar. tell me your not suggesting that ride buyers do not exist in f1?! the back half of the field are ride buyers in every major series in the world. what do you mean indy drivers don't succeed in fi? ever hear of mario andretti? phil hill? jacques villenueve? juan montoya? for all the cross over from one series to another....f1 drivers are flat scared to drive at indianapolis.
everyone stop the argument they are just different. (f1 and indycar) oh.. and indycars could go MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH faster. they are actually slowed dwon for safety. if the ydidn't limit the cars, they's probaly go around 250- 260 mph at a track like indianapolis, and the cars would literally be impossible to control and would be flying into the stands.
@NewLeafNLC no. F1 cars have to maneuver through turns, so the speed is reduced. But IRL cars usually race in ovals, no u-turns,s-curbs or sharp turns. Obviously IRL cars can go faster.
1:32 hes doing it right... hands off steering wheel when crashing (i think so)
hey i gotta tell you sth: When i told a friend that i watched a indy crash vid and i saw that a car was "flying" in the air (like 2:25)...guess what he said???
He said. "are they doing that on purpose?"
ohhh man... i almost kicked him. but i said: "oh yes i think its funny to make a backflip at 330 (or 350) kph i always do so while driving...!
Well a couple of year ago they did take an F1 car to the bonnivlle salt flats and it could only go 220 top speed a CART car can do 250+
Canada is the only track that F1 and Champ has raced in the same year and the F1 speeds were indeed faster by a second or two. Remember i'm not claiming that indy cars are better than f1, I was just trying to settle the argument on who is faster. F1 is the most awesome sport on earth I wake up a ungodly hours to watch it live. I haven't missed race in14 years!
Not really. F1 cars are set up for top performance on roadcourses where Indy cars are set up primarily for high speed on oval tracks. F1 cars have more horse power and are lighter but run more down force for the low speed corners of the road courses which cuts their top end speed. So it has more to do with set up than the actual mechanical potential of the different vehicles.
Well yea on a closed course with special setups and whatever else they did to achieve that. Again those cars are set up for sustained high speeds on an oval track. That is not what F1 cars are set up for. An F1 car would eat that Cart car alive on a typical F1 track.
there is more crashes at Indy then F1 because Indy race at the NASCAR speedway's, and has you see Indy cars are like F1 cars they dont have a design to those speedway's so if they dont do the curve right, they will drift and those car's weren't maked to drift so they will crash
I bet a lap around Monaco in an F1 car would change your appreciation of F1 racing. Not to mention the high speeds they hit at tracks like Monza or Spa Francorchamps. Indy is crazy for sure but F1 is just as dangerous and takes the same courage as a driver.
Only reason why someone would watch F1 is to see one guy lead the entire race with a 20 minute lead. Something that never happens to indy. It seems F1 fans forgot that RACING isn't DRIVING
watching paint dry is more exciting than watching "follow the leader" 5 minute win margin F1. Atleast IndyCar has RACING and umm PASSING...u know...something F1 doesnt have.
LOL let's watch one guy lead the entire race and win it OMG that's SO exciting, nvm passing lets just watch ppl drive around. F1 is only prestigious cause of it's history. But it's a fucking joke these days.
indy cars are mechanical piece of shit ... there is no way, and it never was, well at least in the past 20 yrs, that an f1 car had a lift of plane style ... never .... and these indy morons are driving an oval, which is not driving but steering left for 3 hrs ,,,
Ya, that's exactly what F1 is...driving. Follow the leader, no overtaking driving lol. Atleast Indy has passing...something that seems foreign to F1 and F1 fans
Wow your fucking ignorant. F1 doesn't drive on ovals and if they did they would pretty much lift off just like IndyCars. It's the nature of consistent high speed oval racing. Nothing to do with mechanics or the chassis
F1 would have very similar crashes to Indy IF IT WAS. My point is that your comparison between Indy and F1 is inherently flawed considering that the style of crashes is the result of the type of track NOT BECAUSE OF MECHANICAL OR CHASSIS. I've seen crashes where F1 cars fly but dont exactly blow over. Indy blows over cause they are at a consistently higher top speed
Dude you're retarded, many of that indy crashes when the cars flew is because of hitting large wing debris that will literally launch the car due to the sudden loss of downforce.
I've seen this in F1 b4, but not as drastic cause F1 isn't as fast as Indy.
Your a fucking retard, I'm ashamed that you call yourself an F1 fan
According to Newman Haas Racing, their test center said that IRL cars can produce enough downforce to drive on the roof of a tunnel, without falling, @ around 100mph.
Know what? F1 doesnt generate that much but F1 rarely reaches the constant high speeds that indycar reaches cause they drive at boring circuits that ends up in 5 minute win margins
Again..only reason why ppl say F1 cars are better is because of all those gadgets that F1 cars have which removes the driver element
Indycar never raced in Montreal. C.A.R.T. and ChampCar did and neither are F1.
The MODERN F1 car reaches high speeds up to 360 km/h (220 mph). The MODERN IndyCar reaches high speeds up to Around 385 km/h (240 MPH). F1 engines are 2.4L V8. Current IndyCars are 3.5L V8s.
If IndyCars were slower than F1, it's not the case now and it hasnt been the case for a while actually.....
Sry, I mean the Cart Series. Of course Indycars reach higher speed on oval tracks. But on a normal racetrack F1 cars are faster because of their aerodynamics. Also this if very much a question of the gearbox settings. The Speedrecord with an F1 Car is 413 km/h: watch?v=xobuLNLrODs
Likewise the F1's aerodynamics and engine will not let it budge over 220 mph on an oval (theoretical of course). Of course if you take an F1 engine and make a new chassis will it be faster than IndyCar? I dont know, and frankly it's really not worth pondering about. F1 chassis is very good at what it does just as the IndyCar Dallara chassis is very good at what it does. But in terms of raw speed. IndyCars are generally faster. (straightaway speeds)
indycar is more exciting than F1, i am bored with the actual F1, Button will kill it... In indycar wins everybody or sometimes wins one and sometimes others?

How did the car flip at 2.25?
rennorca 3 years ago
The car is so light that when the air got caught under it, it flipped.
mgsfan15 3 years ago
It actually looked like he hit a piece of debris from that car spinning and it launched the front end in the air which in return the air caught the front end it flipped him over.
fatboytank320 3 years ago
Yeah that's what happened.

At :10 the red that you see at the upper left part of the crash is Alex Zenardi's legs. It's a true miracle that he survived and still races
