I don't believe this is dubbing from the 1971 version. Whilst the first soloist does sound a lot like Bruno, the second soloist definitely does not. The poor recording quality doesn't help but I believe that in all I've seen of this song, Les Poppys do seem to perform live.
No, this is not live. The song's original soloist would be about 16 by the time this was broadcast. There have been a few "stand-in's" since 1971! The sound of the vocals is exactly the same as the 1971 recording. Little boys do not sound that much alike!
@mannekin There is no doubt that this is not the sound of the original soloist (Bruno, I believe). This doesn't even closely resemble the sound of the original. The only other sound like this one is on their Mercredi Libra album.
Thank you for uploading this video. I remember when this song was first aired in the Netherlands. I was still young so I did not understand the real meaning. Looking at the world today the words in this song still hold true. Considering that we are now 40 years further in time, it make me so very very very very sad that we still have not learned anything. My compliments for the translation, it is perfect.!!!
@nlco0196 Thank you for this nice compliment. The continued truth of these words is why I have posted this one. Not to mention the emotion these two soloists pour into it.
@GabrielDhalaman For some reason this, and many other, videos seem to loose sync with their audio when played from you tube. So dubbing is very difficult to determine for sure.
@biggestkrisfan Les Poppys was a subset of Petits Chanteurs d'Asnières led by Jean Amoureux until his death at age 84 on 2 Sept 2009. Just 9 weeks after his last concert on the 21 July 2009 at Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre. I believe he was responsible for "Mercredi Libra" as well.
PS On the morning of 2 Sept 2009 Jean Amoureus passed away 41 days after their last performance of 21 July 2009. Leaving a 63 year legacy of developing many young talents and keeping a lot of kids off the streets of Paris.
I know that, even Dutch singer Lenny Kuhr had a hit with the Poppys [the song ''visite''] but that doesn't change the fact the Poppys from '77 are miming a hitsingle from '71 .
The Poppys with singer Bruno were the most succesfull. The boys in this vid had nothing to do with this song...it are even not their voices.
They may have lip synced their own studio recording, but you couldn't tell if you could see my original video. The entire audio track got slipped by YouTube during or after I uploaded it..
As for the Poppys, hundreds and maybe thousands of boys, came and went but the Poppys and their songs were always Jean Amoureus.
Bruno was the first , but not the last and not necessarily the best soloist chosen by Mr. Amoureus. Bruno had no more and no less to do with this song than any of the others.
I don't get that... You mean at this performance they were singing playback to an older recording of this song? I have some recordings of them - I think one of the 1977 choir and one of a later one, maybe in the 1980s even. I also saw them in two concerts back in the GDR, and always there were the young ones and the older ones - boys between 8 and 18. So - how could they be „too old for this song??
Si on écoutait cet enfant ou plutôt les paroles qu'il chante le monde serait beau !!!!

This is ridicilous; unknown boys playback on the original '71 single sung by leadsinger Bruno.
The original Poppys were too old by '77, but come on, playbacking an old hit sung by different boys is almost fraude in my eyes.

Since 1946 "Les Poppys" have been an ongoing subset of les "Petits Chanteurs d'Asnières" as were "Mercredi Libre".
All still directed by Jean Amoureux.
To the best of my knowledge they last did a concert series in July 2009. I will send you some of their current videos.

Right, in this one he gets to play the angry part. The other boy gets to play the sad part. Together they create sad anger.
