This was a chance wasted!! This should have been a National Monument Park a gateway to the Allegany National Forest a testament to the coal and railroads of PA!! A park where you could camp, cabin, excursion Train, etc. This could have been the most popular national park to visit proven by visitors from other countries. Dmn diphits couldnt figure this one out!!
***As a historical update to the concluding message of the film. The Knox and Kane Railroad ceased operation and shut down in the Spring of 2006. On March 16, 2008, an arsonist set fire to the building housing the two former K&K locomotives, causing sever damage. With no further viable business capabilities, and its two locomotives unusable, the company decided to liquidated its assets in October of 2008. The track was removed in 2010 and viability of the corridor as a trail is being studied.
@LycoValleyRRFan I, too feel a little heart-broken whenever I learn of a new rail-trail conversion project. Just this February, an old Rock Island route near my home in Missouri, 200+ miles long and dormant for 30 years, was lost, and bulldozers began pushing the rails into the ditches. Try not to get down thinking of the new trail, as it legally preserves the right-of-way for future reactivation. Just imagine that trail gravel as the sub-ballast for new track. -Always take pictures, too... :)
