My daughter started with milk at 6m, was doing 60 signs by her 1st birthday, 150 by 17m...and then by 19m had an amazing vocabulary of hundreds of spoken words that I'd long ago lost count of, 4 word sentences, knew all her colours, was counting...simply wonderful. For those who are criticising this mum for repeating the words and signs to her baby, they need to understand about children's development. Babies need repetition to learn, just as we spend hours smiling at them to get them to smile.
I can't believe the ridiculous comments made by some people about this video. Anyone who knows anything about baby signing can see that this baby is signing More. My children have all signed loads and I now teach baby signing in Nottingham, England and it is simply one of the most amazing things that you can do with your baby, both as far as their development is concerned and also for giving you a wonderful relationship with your child. Well done - great job!
I just start to learn ASL recently, am hard of hearing. I can sign some simple words now. I joined a great deaf daing site, ----Deafornot dot c om----, and met some good deaf/HOH friends over there. They help me to learn ASL.
With all due respect there is no sign language here. The sign for 'more' is the index finger being pressed into the opposite palm. Banging the table is not signing!!
@petesommers35 There are different ways to sign 'more' depending on which language you're using. Either way though, the baby in this video doesn't seem to be signing or is at a very very early stage of learning something.
i wanna know what the mom is on... i want some. he was not doing any signs for more.. he was just getting frustrated cause you were not giving him his food fast enough!
when did you start signing with him? i'm starting to show my daughter a few signs, like more, milk and all done. shes only 4 months so i'm sooo excited to see when she starts putting it together!
Baby sing language is similar to baby talk; their signs are not going to be perfect, just like their speech isn't perfect. However, you can definitely tell that he is trying to mimic the sign MORE. Also, the fact that this child is already developing communication skills at 6 months old is hardly shit.
this video is shit this baby don't signing and his mother is a bitch how many times she can ask abouth more food if she see that he real want eat he start crying about that its sad:(
@kaczordbz the baby is crying because that is primarily the way he would ask for more, babies cry for everything. to be able to learn the signs means that his mummy can give him what he actually wants at the time, whilst giving him recognition that specific things have specific words. He can't speak at this age but can sign. i think shes done an amazing thing and her kids are gonna turn out great :)
@kaczordbz you have no idea what you're talking about. no, the sign isnt perfect, but he's getting the idea. and it all takes practice. a baby isnt going to suddenly start signing words PERFECTLY. especially at 6 months. he's putting his hands togethr, and he's understanding. he crys because he's frustrated, though that frustration is temporary... VERY temporary. and in the long run, leaning to sign will reduce his frustration and he'll probably speak earlier than other babies, as well.
very cute, I'm working with my 8 month old and she does milk and has been trying to do more, I just started at 7 months so she's catching on pretty quickly. Good job though, how old is he now?
Babies need repetition when learning something new; we all do. When teaching sign language, I say the word and sign it. So the more often you say and sign the word, the easier it is for them to understand. Oh that's the sign for "more" and this is what the word more means.
All babies cry and fuss. That does not mean they know how to sign

Banging hands on the table isn't the sign for more. Learn before you teach.

If you tell him to give you the sign and he doesn't do it, then you give him the food anyway, what motivation is there for him to give you the sign?

The first time he "signed more" he looked like he was banging his hands on the table and the second time, he was grabbing his bib...
