I've had my optimus for 2 years, and only recently learned of this ability. Yeterday my phone died, so when I took it to best buy, they gave me a new one in its place. The new phones 3G access turns off when you try use the hotspot function.

@Storm804VA Yes, against the TOS, but doesn't void the warranty. I've never made a secret of the fact against TOS and it appears that most likely Virgin Mobile is already starting to block the Hot Spot capability.

Every one who has problems. Just to let you noe is that all the lg optimuses from virgin mobile don't work for tethering. They don't allow that so they changed the android version to 2.2.2 & before it was 2.2.1 so everytime you try to turn the hotspot on the3g will go off

@isaidwombo Yes, potentially you can do that, however, I have been seeing where people are starting to be blocked from the WiFi HotSpot ability. So your milage may vary depending on your setup.

I sure wouldn't rely on this to be your main internet connection.

Its got to be because its the beyond talk plan, right? That's the only think I can think of since it's not a contract.

This is a very good app. Ive only used it to download songs to my iPod and its pretty fast. Just don't leave it on for long cause it does drain the battery, at least it did in my case.

@starmaster191 Thethering is where you connect the phone via a USB cable and connect it to a computer. The phone then acts like a modem and you can use the 3G connection as an internet connection.

I've used this function for almost a year now. I play my ps3 online constantly with it. I use prob about a gb of download every month using this app (not just ps3, I download large files on the computer as well) and they have yet to throttle me. I'd say it's pretty safe. lol

To access your Menu on the Optimus v_ Open your quick settings as Kerry shows you above.Open Menu press the button on the far Left and it will offer you the menu customization. Then you need to Select it. Then scroll down and you will see in the menu it states "hidden settings" Double tap Wi -Fi hotspot and then drag it UP to viewable settings. Go to quick settings widget>click manu key>click customize “customize”>then scroll down and drag wi-fi hotspot widget above the hidden settings line>click home key. Go back into quick settings widget and you will see the wi-fi hotspot now. It is not in the default settings when you first install this widget.
