Well, when the 2nd missle set comes in on u and u dont have pilot flares, switch to gunner, dump and switch back to pilot. THEN SWITCH BACK TO GUNNER AND SWITCH TO PILOT (because theres a glitch that when you switch to gunner then back to pilot, you can get throttle and take off without needing to wait for the rotors to hit full power

a tip for ye, guys: when locked fire only one heatseaker, only ONE. enemy gotta dump flares, and then you can lock again and fire one more missile without an urge of reloading. damn lot of dem "pilots" got themselves pop'd and drop'd with this tactic.

most of the time when you shot one missile, enemy dumped flares, you aimed again and shot second missile - you will reload the first one. so you can double-tap him. most of the time :) i mean, when you are using radar and not autoloader, and when enemy dont use stealth (mostly they dont). if you use autoloader - thing gonna go a whole new level - you can just spam missiles and see the bitch trying to evade.

if you fire, they flare, you reload - whats the difference in firing two before reloading? unless the reload time is lower if you only reload one missile - ill have to test this

autoloader speeds up reloads for every weapon system on vehicle, start from your main gun and finish at guided rockets. that tactic i described was extremely useful with previous patch, when jet became incapacitated at 50% health. now, they patched it but you can use it in a mix with main gun, shoot one missile, flare, aim, shoot next missile and all the time shoot at enemy jet your main gun. you gonna get yourself a guaranteed kill.

@sacriel42 secriel42 his tactic is good although he doesn't have a good defense for it. When you pop the one missile and reload immediately, you should have both missile ready by the next time you relock on, If not there maybe be a second apart for the second missile to be ready. this tactic does fall short if you are too far from the enemy.

@sacriel42 If you only fire one missile, by the time they've popped their flares and you've locked on again, you'll have 2 missiles again, and you'll be able to fire those without having to think about flares.

1)lock on (fully) but do not fire !

2)see enemy dump flares thinking there's no way you haven't shot if locked on.

3) lock on again and this time fire both rockets ;)

@sacriel42 Most enemies go for cover once they have flared off and realized someone is shooting them, so one rocket at time works way better (you might not have time for them to reload before enemy flees). Hoping to get lucky and encounter noob with no idea how to use flares every time is a bad idea anyway.

You can also equip flares as gunner and then change to the second seat in mid-air to pop flares again, which means you always have 2 shots if youre alone.

@TankBeserker If you tilt it down but use a lot of throttle to keep yourself in the air, you'll naturally start going faster. If you go level or pull back, you'll stay the same or go slower, and tend to gain altitude more rapidly.

I see many people with ECM... but that doesnt mean it's better (or when is it better).

IE: many prefer rocket pods in jets over guided... I see this as a mistake.

@Pestilencemage in my opinion always ecm for pilot and flare for gunner, then you both know your jobs in any scenario, blow ecm to break any attempted locks (towards the end of the lock cylce) if they get locked and fire before you ECM your gunner can flare

@sacriel42 have you tried laser painter with guided missile for the gunner, it's really effective against armor and choppers, the pilot paints them, the gunner locks, and missile away, flares have no effect, 1 hit kill, armor is disabled in 1 shot I believe, you should try it once

Those aren't hellfire missiles dummy! Those are hydra rockets! Hellfire can only be fired if it is locked on to an laser beacon(there are no hellfire in battlefield 3, heat seekers doing their job :D)

Also on a separate note, Guided Rockets don't actually "slightly lock on" to whatever you're shooting at. They just fly more "straight" and "accurate", which means that you can engange tanks and whatnot from a longer range and be effective (assuming your aim is good). There was some talk about it locking onto to laser designated targets but this turned out to be a myth.

[Guided Rocket] affect yours Rocket Pods or your heat Seekers?, i assume that upgrade affect the pods, but make the rockets "a little guided"?, because the description of the upgrade says "semi-active guidance system, increase accuracy and range...", u need to aim?, the rockets can turn with that upgrade?, the rockets detect enemy vehicles and simply direct on them?, good video, sry for all questions :P and my bad english, thx !!

Hello! When you use your guided rockets on you helo, would somebody locking on your target with or soflam or citv (tanks unlock) help you out? It seems nobody uses javelin, tank's guided shell, or any guided missile from helicopter, vehicle or jet. When I started playing i spent several hours tracing jets with the soflam, and had extensive periods of lock on time, hoping that someone would shoot it down. All i got from that was 10 and 20 points for lock on. Nobody used the opportunity.

@reallycoooool: the problem here is that you really need teamwork to be able to use all these advantages; I often have the same problem than you just the other way round; I take the guided shell in my tank, or the javelin - but no laser designated target all day long... so I drop them and use other things instead; what we need is more teamwork - I've started using the chat to communicate to my team when I am using SOFLAM/CITV or Guided Shell/Javelin so they can adapt, but little success so far

Excellent soloing! Do you usually go by a pilot 1st, gunner 2nd flare pattern with gunners who have flares or vice versa? Also, have you sniper-choppered with a gunner who has tv missiles?

@sacriel42 I've figured out how to use them consistently. Impacting the ground about 5-10 yards in front of a vehicle or soldier ensures a hit. When used correctly (and when your team has air-superiority), a guided rocket/tv-missile combo can decimate an entire team's land vehicles from an untouchable distance. The only effective counter to this is a good enemy jet pilot. We should fly together sometime, I'm Franklin_D_Bluth on your friends list. Love the videos!

just a small hint: the rockets the pilot uses are unguided "Hydra" rockets (even if they have a this upgrade here). The guided missile the gunner uses is a "Hellfire".
