It's all good but as promotional video it looks very old "late70s or 80s" you need to update this video with 21 century images and also the porta bote pamphlet or booklet , some photos there are from the 50s .. i love the porta bote but lets bring it up to date for the younger generation ...
looks coolish... nice for those who can use something like this but id rather buy a regular boat witch would pobly be cheaper than buy this porta boat
I own one but they are not all truthful. ti takes longer to put up than than make one. very efficient on the water for the motor used. plus they show you how the hull fold flat and it does, but what about where you put all the bulky seats. I have the 12 ft 3.7 one. I have 5hp on mone. its very qucik to urns which is great on the water but a bit of bummer as you time pulling up the motor and try to come in straight on the boat ramp.
@ReubenM882 Thanks for contacting Porta-Bote. Over 40 years in business. Over 90,000 Porta-Botes being used around the world! 10 year hull warranty For complete information, please see our distributor in UK: IntraMore Ltd Jean and Roger Jackson 15 Cooke Close Lowestoft Suffolk NR33 7NW Tel/Fax: 01502 563595 Mobile: 07990 554292 Email: IntraMore@SpamCop.net
If the motormount block came off because a hinge broke, you can replace the hinge with a stainless steel continuous hinge and just screw it into the transom.
If the motor is up against the transom, just set the angle up one notch (third hole from the bottom).
They are really great boats, although the motor mount broke off and needs sme special epoxy to go back on so we clamp it. other than that you can put a fish ffinder and 2-3 people init....can't wait to be cruising the Rideau River with some fishing buddies. I might just buy a 5hp briggs and stratton because 9.9 is way too fast. They go SO FASt i have the 14ft model and it goes 40mph at least, and it's very hard to turn the boat. it makes huge fast turns which could be dangerous. 5hp ij
It costs alot. me and my dad have one. I'm borrowing it this summer and throwing a 9.9 on it. It goes well over 35mph. 9.9 is scary on it.
When you are in the boat the floor is pretty soft yet sturdy but once you start motoring a water pocket undernearth hits the floor and creates suction making it rock hard an you can feel the waves on your feeet lol it's scary sometimes.
Great boat for gettng nto small place. Easy to load we don't fold we keep it in the back of our pick up truck and tie itdn
Another way is to tow the panels on a raft that way you dont have all the added weight in the craft. I am sure there are light weight panels that could serve both as shade and power for the batt.
Your 10 year old 3.5 hp Tohatsu , like other outboards of its vintage was rated at the head. In recent years outboard manufacturers were made to rate the hp at the prop. Today your outboard would be rated at about 1:8hp. Not enough to make any boat plane. Try it with a true 3.5 and you'll ne amazed.
Of course its not reccomended - but then again neither is bull riding or racing cars - but it sure is fun!!! - I also sell the kits to enable others to use a larger than reccomended engine if you are interested.....
I put the 20 hp 4 stroke yamaha on my 14 ft and it flies - Of course I had to reinforce the sides with a strap and the transom with aluminum but it was worth it -

Do you deliver to Scotland and are these practical? How much would it be for the largest one and what holds them together?
Would it just crumble in the water? If anyone can answer these questions it will help me buy one. Help!!

@walleniusfaust Hi, That's too much if it's a 4 cycle and you have a 12' Bote. It works fine with a 14' model.

This boat would be perfect to install solar panels on the sun shade you could motor around for free for hours a day.

hellow!!! do you know how fast can you reach on a 12'6" long with a 2000 year model Johnson 3.3 Horsepower outboard motor?? thank you!

With one person in the boat you should be able to go about 8 - 10mph in a lake with no currents.
portabot 3 years ago
I have one of these, they are great. Mind you I don't know how long it will last, it's pretty scratched up on the bottom.
I have a 15hp on my 12 footer.........It goes 35+ mph......it's extremely fast and scary....
When you get going fast, the bottom of it moves it's a weird feeling......
But over all they are nice little boats...
We've had it in little trout lakes which are inaccesible by any other type of boat except canoe and float tube.
14ft model is quite heavy though......

Has anyone tried a 3.5 hp on a 10 foot Porta-Bote? Just wondering what it would do?
