  • Remember these guys were the feature band for TV's Where the Action is! Awesome show for daytime tv. Freddie Cannon sang the theme song, but the Raiders were mouthing it.

  • Toy sax! LOL

  • My Father, a world world II Infantryman, used to machine gun the German Soldiers amen...Dan O'Niallain

  • God...they were soooooooooooooo much fun! I do miss that...

  • the Spanish Castle in south Seattle on hwy 99 use to rock to them

  • No one seems to remember Mark Lindsay played a mean sax, too. Charismatic, almost overshadowing Paul Revere. The should have their niche in the American pop hall of fame, and more too. They responded to British Invasion just like ex-colonials should--with zest and imagination!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • Is he using spatulas for drumsticks?

  • @griffin324 Wooden spoons...

  • This is far out!!

  • Aw I wish I knw the guitar solo to this! I need help! Any hints where i could find tabs?

  • saw the group in branson last year and than went to andy williams restaurant next door and hung out with the guys

  • i love this clip, and the way they do this tune!

  • Yaaaa! I was there also. Great show for an ol guy - very talented singer they have and of course Paul is pretty funny. Just hope your were'nt one of the "chair people" You know who you are...If your too old to stand and rock out, then STAY HOME and leave the space for those of us who like to rock!!

  • @abcseefam No, I agree with you. We wanted to dance but the chair people took up the area. Still a great time!

  • Just saw him Sat. night at Hot August Nights. 73 yrs. old and still puts on a great show. Missed Mark Lindsey but Paul is still the wild and crazy guy he was 50 years ago.

  • who'se the guy playing the saxophone

  • @ambersalcove I think his name is Mark Lindsay

  • @ambersalcove mark lindsay and i think it's a toy!

  • @greenpilgrim50 had a huge crush on him when i was a wee girl, lol, he was hot!!!

  • These guys were nut! LOL...naaah, great bunch. ;O)

  • They were some of the most talented guys around and made a nitch by being so funny. Mark Lindsey still rules!

  • Sax + reverb + Louie Louie theme = one of the best intro in music history

  • I first saw them when I was a little girl. Still watching them still. LOL They were good. \m/

  • this is one of the best versions of the song! 1965 GTO convertable, tiki joe hats, white t-shirts and shorts, crusin'!

  • When I was in college the guys from Boise would tell about the times they hired Paul Revere and the Raiders for their high school dances. Paul is still about. Plays Jackpot Nevada from time to time. That I know of

  • This is what Sarah Palin thinks the Battle of Lexington looked like.

  • @Smaptimania that was FRICKIN AWESOME! dont forget glenn beck too

dude/dudette-you are HILARIOUS! my hat's off to you-im laffing my butt off!

  • 1. The Sonics, (best cover you've never heard of)

    2. Paul Revere and the Raiders

    3. The Kingsman

    4. The Troggs

  • @LifeIncarnate2 i can argree the sonics kick some serious ass

  • @LifeIncarnate2

    The Maytals?

  • much better than the Kingsmens version

  • Fantastic

  • music just isnt what it used to be anymore

  • @jwdjr2004 they go on 'talent ' shows,& think they're great when not

  • I also love how Mark goes over and they all three start dancing in synch. that looks really cool!

  • BEST LOUIE LOUIE VERSION EVER!!!!was actually recored in the same studio as the kingsmen's version on the same day! check it out

  • The Raiders version had soul. The Kingsmen were for Jocks and drunken' frat boys.

  • I love how crazy they are in this video. Just the best!

  • Sign the petition for the Hall of Fame! thepetitionsite. com/1/raidersrockhall/ and take out the space before dotcom

  • hawt!

  • I'm from Tacoma....imagine these guys at the Armory back in the 60's with the Sonics, Don and the Goodtimes, The Wailers.....man, I'm old!!! The Raiders DO own this.

  • My favorite version, I liked it the first time I heard it! One of their many great ones!!

  • This is an absolutely hilarious video. The sax falling apart, playing the drums with a fly swatter, the guy stepping off the stage etc etc. I love this vid. TYVM to the poster. :)

  • I like the reggae version. But this also cos it gets a party goin like a mofo!

  • I definitely prefer it.

  • I love the hats

  • Mark Lindsay, such a sexy spazz. This is great. I loved the silly antics of PR and the Raiders. I remember watching them on Where The Action Is when I was 5 or 6. My teenaged sister used to have me watch these things with her. I am so glad she did.

  • 1:12 Paul: You Ok, Mark?

  • Very impressive ukelele solo courtesy of Drake Levin :-D

  • 8 clowns disliked this video? WTF

  • Great guys really unpretentious and fun, and ...good musicians, saw them at the Cow Palace in SF in the Sixties!

  • @68generation Do you mean the 1760's???

  • @68generation Well I'm pretty old, but not THAT OLD! Lol

  • @68generation It's a mortal sin, but I'm just a tad envious. Did you by any chance catch The Beatles final concert?

  • KUDOS to kingvidiot66 for downloading this video and "Stepping Out" and "Louie Go Home" (Original Version). Keep it up. Raiders Rule the '60's!!!

  • lol; I really dig the way Smitty says "Grab your woman, it's a Louie Louie time!!" at the beginning of this video. Also when Mark Lindsay clowns around by holding the sax to his ear and then it falls apart and then Mark tries to hide it in his back and Smitty cracks up. Also when Mark whispers in Paul's ear and Paul goes "Waahh Hahhh!" After Mark, Fang and Drake do that really cool "Raider" kick Fang hits Mark on the head with the toy guitar!!! lol!!!

    RIP Drake and Smitty

  • I really dig how Mark Lindsay, Fang, and Drake Levin did the "Raider" kick at the end of this video. Paul Revere & The Raiders were a real tight band in their day.

  • Is this improvised at all?

  • They're so cute! I love the humor they played into this! The two on the right must be hunting for some wabbits. "Shhh"

  • Hadn't heard that before, great stuff! Still prefer the Kingsmen's version...

  • decent cover, but yes, prefer the original

  • @highroadnow This is not a cover. The Raiders did not hear the Kingsmen's version and decide to cover it . The song was done by both groups. The Kingsmen just released it first. The reason that I prefer this version is because I've burned out on the Kingsmen's version.

  • hold on...where is the part, "every night at 10 I lay her again"???????

  • Utterly Fantastic! It's a toss-up. In a way, this version is better, but I'd have to give a slight nod to the Kingmen's version, probably because they did it first.

  • when i lived in hawaii they had a house 2 blocks from me

  • You can get this mp3 at audiogetnow..com

  • I live just blocks away from where BOTH bands recorded this in the same studio, on the same week... makes me think of them every time I pass Powells

  • I prefer this version over the kingsmens, it seemed to be just a matter of money, who payed whom to get the air play, this IS the better version.

  • Love the dance steps....YEah !! They're comin' to Regina, Sask.,Canada to the Casino Lounge November 23rd./10

  • Love the dance steps....YEah !!

  • Gotta' love Drake and Phil. They always looked like they were having more fun than anyone else!

  • @NancyG62 Sadly Drake had passed last year ironically on the 4th of july...

  • @moxie96 I know. My heart really goes out to his family, and to Phil. From what I understand, they grew up together.

  • COOL SONG

    BETTER VERSION THAN THE KINGSMEN

BOTH GROUPS ARE FROM PORTLAND OREGON AREA

PAUL REVERE & THE RAIDERS STILL ROCK

YOU CAN SEE THE KILLER INFLUENCE IN PAUL REVERE

  • yes its knock out stuff, wondered how this sounds live...

  • The Raiders did the best Louie Louie ! Later Iggy and the Stooges version KO'ed them all with that James Williamson guitar ! Now it is high time for the Raiders in the R & R Hall of Fame !

  • Rockin Robin Roberts/Wailers' version is #1! The Raiders #2. Kingsmen should not be ranked in the top 10 versions! The Mariners should be using the Wailers' version for 7th inning breaks.

  • The Mono LP of "Paul Revere & The & The Raiders Greatest Hits" contained this version with screaming live overdubs laced all over it. Still, it is MUCH more exciting sounding in its tampered form there than the more common Stereo version heard on the Stereo LP of the same album (and later CD).

  • No your not They made it comical sort of & the Kingsmen didn't over dress at all. I like this one as a video & song.

  • I am laughing my ass off. This show is like the blues brother, 3 stooges and mike jaggar all in one. TOOOOOOOOO FUNNNNNNNNNNG. Good song though, remember it well

  • I like the original 1955 version by R.Berry & the Pharoahs, but that's me.

  • we Love Paul Revere and the Raiders of course were 55 years old too

  • Am I the only one who prefers this version to the one by The Kingsmen?

  • The Raiders are one of my all time favorites, but I prefer the Kingsmen's sloppy & trashy version over this.

  • @kingvidiot66 As the saying goes: "To each his own". It's good to converse with others who are smart enough to tell the difference between yesterdays' classics to todays' muck.

  • @kingvidiot66 Agreed. In his book Louie Louie, Dave Marsh tells the story of how the Kingsmen scooped the Raiders and had the big hit with the song, even though the Raiders' version was out first.

The other funny thing is that the Kingsmen's version was a rehearsal take. They thought they were doing a run-through and were shocked when the producer told them that was it. That's what accounts for the famous mistake in the last verse when the singer comes in a bar too early with "Me see..."

  • @kingvidiot66 My dad thinks its christlike

  • @kingvidiot66 I am 100% behind you, especially when FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover thinks there is a communist plot in that song!!!!

  • @kingvidiot66 Check out the sonics version. its so radd

  • @alonenjersey not sure but if you compare the kingsman version it seems to me that the raiders are sarcasticly mocking the kingsmans' dance steps in their performances

  • @laosuwan I don't know if it's me but many of the American bands did'nt take to lip-syncing as seriously as thier British counterparts. My guess is that they ( P.R. & R.) were trying to keep this t.v. appearance as interesting as possible. This band is another reason why I sometimes think I was born too early.

  • @alonenjersey I prefer this version. The lead guitar is clean.

  • @alonenjersey I first heard this version in 1967 when I was mailed Paul Revere and the Raiders Greatest HITs by Columbia House. I listened to the album over and over and got hocked and preferred their version. At the time the Kingsmen's version was one of my favorites songs.

  • @khj93play Columbia House?! Holy Cow, that's going back awhile. Good to know I'm not the only one who prefers this version.

  • @alonenjersey You are so right...PR and the Raiders added so much to the tune...Kingsmen don't hold a candle...Has any one ever heard the song "Over You" by Paul Revere and the Raiders?

  • @alonenjersey God no! Lindsay's a great vocalist and he handled this one RIGHT ON.

  • @alonenjersey - nope, me too, this is THE killer version for me.

  • @alonenjersey no this one cooler i like the kingsmen version is good but this is better

  • @alonenjersey I agree with you there. Kingsmen version much better

  • @alonenjersey I agree with you there. Kingsmen version much better

  • @alonenjersey You are not alone muchacho!

  • @alonenjersey ...Nope...I prefer it TOO !!

  • Comment removed

  • @alonenjersey No! I think the Raiders version is the best ever. Without a doubt.

  • @alonenjersey i'm with you!! I'm 20 years old and i love this old music!!! My dad turned me on to this stuff and i love it!!

  • @alonenjersey You are not alone bro!

  • @khj93play Good to know. It's people like us who must keep classics like these alive. Christ knows very little of today's generation gives a damn about the classics.

  • @alonenjersey I'm with you man....I always thought the Raider version was harder, heavier and bluesier. The Kingsmen version was more of a partyish, pop tune. This version fu***king rocks!!!

  • @paleblue498 Yes! A crying shame that old time radio stations will gladly play The Kingsmen version yet never knew of the better version by these cats.

  • @alonenjersey

"Am I the only one who prefers this version to the one by The Kingsmen?"

No, if I haven't mentioned it before. This is my favourite version, and I reckon I've heard a few. They're having fun, and I don't meant the outfits of instruments.

  • @alonenjersey

    its my ABSOLUTE favorite!

  • @alonenjersey No!

  • @alonenjersey Surprisingly, no.....

  • @alonenjersey

    Not hardly!

  • @alonenjersey motorhead ;D

  • @alonenjersey no, this is the best version, hands down

  • @alonenjersey I prefer this one as well.

  • @alonenjersey No. Mark Lindsay's vocal was way better, and Drake Levin was a better guitarist than anyone the Kingsmen ever had.

  • @alonenjersey Noooo, you're not alone! The Raiders OWNED this song, with Mark's awesome vocals and adding those lyrics to the end, 'Stomp and shout and work it on out!' :D

  • no way, i'm all about this version!

  • @alonenjersey No.The Kingsmen's version is fantastic, but this is more raw,& just listen to that bass line & that twangy lead guitar riff, just AWESOME

  • @alonenjersey here's my vote! PR&TR 4-EVER - gotta get them into R&R Hall of Fame, come on!

  • now, this is how you lip-synch a song....

  • Remember, Dick Clark is very, very protective of his property rights, and you will not find his stuff posted (without permission).

  • @helmuttdvm Dick Clark is a greedy mother fucker and needs to die so all of the Where the Action Is clips can be viewed. Im hoping any day nowe.

  • ROFL

  • great party band. they used to tear up the casinos in reno and tahoe

  • @laosuwan I remember reading from a source who claimed that if you were hosting a party in California during the mid-60's, THIS was the band you hired to play at it. I truly believe it.

  • @alonenjersey maybe if your friend hired them before they became famous. i could only dream of having these guys play at a party of mine. that would have been awesome. under all the crazy costumes and antics they were really seriously good musicians. they never gave up the costumes, even into the 90s, and i think that's what did them in, in the commerical sense.

  • awesome music miss it!!!

  • Great guitar solo by Drake Levin. I like the dark glassed on Drake and Phil. This must be a very early performance - look how short and thin Mark Lindsay's hair is.

    The gimmicks are so stupid.

  • Can you say Parody? I knew you could.

I so love this band. Wish I could have had this much fun when I was performing. ;-)

  • I owned this one on vinyl and some other albums they produced. Northwest migration of the material from surf style groups increased the popularity of the tune and the US garage bands ate it up. The Kingsmen's version had a lot to do with further advancing the instrumental breaks younger bands were taking. Just a thought.

  • This band is cool. I think they were not the ones who put it out, but they are still F*&kin cool!

Never will die F%$#k no, they are masters. God Bless them all

  • I was there in these days when they would play at Harrah's Hotel in Reno Nv. my home, Mark Lindsay one of the greatest voices of all time....Burned the septum of his nose out using too much of the good stuff, great music lost forever...

  • @BablyonsKing I don't believe that.

  • @BablyonsKing Lindsay did drugs? For real? wow

  • That Mike (Smitty) Smith on the drums.RIP Smitty

  • I think this is from their own TV program "Where the Action Is"

  • No it is not!

  • @tculhane01 Interesting version. I recall that show. I don't recall who sang the theme song to the show. I hear it Now!

  • Not Canadian- from Cleveland - thanks for the clip though :)

Swingin' Time was a music variety show, similar to American Bandstand, hosted by WKNR-AM (Keener 13) personality Robin Seymour (and also, for a time, CKLW-AM's Tom Shannon). It ran in syndication in the late-1960s. The show featured recording acts, both nationally and locally popular, lip-synching to their latest releases while teenagers showcased the latest dances on the show's dance floor.

  • Your thinking of Upbeat doofus!

  • Sorry- Detroit. The Host was a DJ in Cleveland. I noticed you took out the Canadian though.

  • @spikepriggen tommy shannon lol he was such a damend theif

  • @spikepriggen Hey man my brother went over to Windsor to dance on Swing Time with Robin Seymour...I had forgotten that until I read your post.thanks for releasing that memory!!

  • @spikepriggen Actually, Robin Seymour left his position at WKNR Keener 13 to take over the reins at Swingin' Time. He was replaced at Keener by Ted Clark.

  • That Revere on the xylophone?

  • Peter Noone was the drummer!

  • Actually, it's not.. The Raiders were U.S., Peter Noone & The Hermits/Herman's, were U.K. But he foes bear a slight resemblance.

  • Great Video BTW!

  • Do you know where this video was takin ?

My grandpa thought it was takin in a place called The Bunny Lounge in Salem Oregon..he is from this time so he has a good idea ..but we want to know for sure lol

  • Thats 60's Television, not their fault. Why do you think they are playing toy instruments? to make a mockery of the situation.

  • I've seen the Beatles, Beach Boys, and Rolling Stones--to name a few--play live on 60s TV.

  • great!!!

  • This funny shit. LMAO

  • LOVE IT!!!!! Thanks, you made me smile:):):):):)

  • Comment removed

  • I saw them a few years ago and they rocked!

  • PR and the Raiders were on 750 tv shows and hosted Dick Clarks Happening 68 tv show which aired Jan 68 until May of 69. No other Rock and roll act has been on more tv than these guys who were real showman.Long live PR and the Raiders!

  • it's amazing that paul and mark are still around 50 yrs. now damn i must be getting old too but their music will live on. looks like this is the core group with paul mark drake fang and smitty that really should be in the r&r hall of fame rip smitty and drake

  • this song is so kool

  • Louie Louie is covered by so many different bands from so many different genres. its kinda cool listening to them. i like this version. the vocals are pretty amazing.

  • OMG! I have some 45's of Paul Revere & the Raiders! Didn't they have a TV show or is my memory fuzzy?!

  • My brothers group (The Che-Vels) opened for them often here in the Willamette Valley & I got to meet them at about age 9 or 10. It was a kick. Gave me the incentive to play too. Typical of the boys,,, if you have to lip-sync it why not get totally silly?!!! R.I.P. Smitty & Drake.

  • Did the Che-vels make any records?

  • No they didn't. A lot of tapes as I recall. There was another group that came out (North Cal.) with a record about the same time. Different spelling.

    Rich Dangel Lives!!!

  • dang, take me right back to being 13, and absolutely loving PRR, and yeah, I'm from the northwest.

  • I remember watchin them on Shindig!

  • Best band to come out of America

  • Have mercy, Jesus, would ya look at Mark Lindsay! I'm going into heart failure!

  • Did someone say "lip sync"? This is so cheesy that it's fun and brings back those memories from long, long ago!

  • Is there anyone who doesn't know that this obscene, subversive song drove J. Edgar Hoover of the FBI (Famous But Incompetent) crazy?
