  • Are you double jointed Forcefellow?

  • A basic point that may not seem obvious is that you must first aim

to the left or right to clear the obstructing ball before the curve action takes.

When the obstructing ball is right in front of the cue ball, you may have

to aim 90 degrees and jack the stick almost straight up.

  • Nicely explained but I still can't do it, man I suck at Masse shots.

  • I know the theory, but in practise, masse shots don't work out well for me.

Which type of cue do you use?

Can I use a regular playing cue? Or should I opt for the break-jump cue?

Even worse, do I need to buy a third cue?

  • thanx for the info this is by far the best breakdown of masse shots i have seen the overhead camera angles definitley help to understand the precision that is necessary.

  • i can curve it just not that good :(

  • how can you hit at the very side each time i try it misses the ball :(

  • wow.. it was this simple?

  • CURVATURE OF A NIPPLE!

  • Thanks for the tips! I will give this a try later tonight and see if I can do it.

  • very good tutorial ! one of the best. infact , its the best.

  • im sorry but once i turn this vid i was like this guys probably gay. im not sayin u r but i thought that 4 a sec

  • Very very good and clear!! Thankyou

  • very good.. explanation

  • thnx for the tips!!!!

  • cool

  • Great video! But at the end wouldn't your opponent have to hit those other balls in before the 8 ball? That win is looking so sure now :/ lol

  • very best demo on here thnx....you really explained the speed and curve reaction time very well....i often forget that point when showing that shot to friends....thnx again.....btw spearysam keep trying you'll get it...the Babe struck out over 10000x to reach 714 home runs....never give up!!!

  • It also helps to experiment with draw added into the mix, because it causes your forward-speed/english ratio to decrease at a faster rate. In other words it slows the cueball down and allows the english to curve it more sharply without changing the cue elevation.

  • this guy has the most boringest voice in the world but hes helpful. kinda. lol

  • lol watch the kid on 1:05

  • You're name is Marcus?! Yes! I found someone who's also named Marcus and not black or spelled weird lmao...Great tutorial brother, can't wait to try it.

  • thanks to this video i learned how to masse correctly

  • "Everyone Type "Won" Before youtube.com "

  • this is to intimate for my liking.

  • I still remember executing my first masse shot. Funny thing is i had no intention on doing so. I was quite surprised and so was my opponent. Great demonstration though. This particular video has helped me progress on my shot. keep it up.

  • remember to properly groom your tip everyone

  • Ummmm,,,that would be "mah-say"

  • Awesome Video

  • FUCK EXPERT VILLAGE! THIS GUY ROCKS!

  • does the quality of the table have an effect on the curving of the ball? because i've tried it many times, but mostly i couldn't curve it..

but at time it did! =D

  • Another great video. I just started playing pool and I appreciate Your calm and easy language. I stumbled on Your videos today and will surely come back to improve my skills. Good job!

  • any tips for not wrecking the table? i was doing the shots alright and gettting fair amount of curve but the follow through kept hitting the table

  • thanks this helped a lot!

  • i love pool and this will STRONGLY make me beter and i might beet my pro pool player brother

  • wow man thx alot. this is good stuff!

  • Well done Sir, and thanks for the info. Also I deffinately agree with you about Cue control and kick control being the best way to spend practice time. But sometimes your opponant just leaves you with that CRAP shot that requires Masse because a bank shot just wont due.

  • @hasukumori Yeah this shot is not the first choice.

  • i use the other end of the cue and it works

  • Cute kid who went near the table..!! :)

  • can you please please teach me to masse, this is the best tutorial but it still doesnt work!

  • @sonictapz I hope you're not expecting to watch this Video and start curving your ball all around the table. The most important and subtle part of the Masse is the tip grooming so your Cue grabs the ball correctly. But after that it's all about experimenting with the Masse and the english and getting a FEEL for it after HOURS of practice. Especially if you dont have an expert standing over your shoulder correcting your minor shot errors because with the Masse it's all about the small stuff..

  • will this damage the table?

  • Does this damage the table?

  • awesome ... thank you ... nice video ... looks difficult though :)

  • you're the man. Dean from Dean's pool tips kills me. he doesn't know shit he's not fit to teach. I'm banned from commenting on his videos so I'll bitch about him here and give you props. For anyone trying to learn you've come to the right guy.

  • Also the type of shot you explained through out your video is probably the same percentage of making it with a masse then a kick or bank from the part of the table we could see. Please do not associate a FULL MASSE with trick shots as it is not the case all the time. Thank You

  • from the beginning of your video to about 38 seconds in is complete opinion. A perpendicular masse as you called it is really called a full masse and is usually just as much used in a billiard game as the half masse shots you are explaining. Both percentages are low and it ticked me off how you think a perpendicular masse shot is only used in trick shots. I use them in both when need be.

  • great video

  • Wow, I have to agree with LforLawliette, that was the best Masse shot instruction i have ever seen

  • you have a very boring voice here

  • you know, i might like this vid if i actuilly knew what a left and right English is or if it wouldent freeze every 5 seconds

  • @poiuy96 Firstly, he explains what right and left english is and it freezes because of your internet connection/computer.

Good tut man.. I really want to learn this shot

  • bad video

  • best curve shot tutorial ive seen on youtube THNX

  • Thank you for the compliment. Tell your friends about the videos.

    Thanks,

    Marcus

  • thanks for the tutorial. exactly the shot i wanted to learn. =)

  • How do you properly grim the pool stick tip?

  • Thanks for all the uploads that you have been doing.

I like to come back to these videos whenever my game play goes haywire. It brings me back to the basics .

    Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the kind words. Its feedback like this that keeps me posting.

  • Good video.

I think that it should be mentioned in the case of mini Masses that you have to "aim" around the ball you're getting around. Often times, people will aim straight at the ball they're trying to get around and end up hitting it.

  • for those who can't curve the ball i can barely and i did not start with how he describes english that way takes more knowledge try putting the cue to the opposite side of the ball that u want to apply english and u know how most post shots u pull up pull to the opposite side it helps when first grasping english

  • thanks for the post after watching this my masse shots got way better and i used during a game !!

  • What's the difference between right English and regular right?

  • elevated cue

  • nothing

  • MINI masse

  • after watching this first go i span the ball =[)

  • Vlw pela dica cara!

  • Nice, sensible comment at the end there. Well done overall.

  • i cant curve it :(

  • Just keep practicing. You'll figure it out, just keep editing your technique slightly until you find what is best for you. Can you spin it without curving?

  • Angle your pool stick downwards at the cue ball and hit it on the side. Not straight in the middle, to a side. But not too far on the side or it'll go in some other direction.

Just in case you haven't gotten it yet :D

  • @spearysam Lol dont worry man. at first i said the same thing. but once i did it i knew it was possible even though it nver seems to work again dammiitt

  • @spearysam so practice :)

  • im a lucky songe to watch this man you rock

  • what size are they balls? around 48 mm?

  • thx and i subscibed and rated 5

  • hey, watch out for the kid. Looked like he was going to run right in to the table. Good thing they're resilient.

  • are you referring to the table or the kid!!! LOL

  • You didn't talk about Squirt... Squirt is crucial in any masse shot

  • can u explain please?

  • this helped a lot dude. thanks.

  • Thanks a lot because you spoke clearly because for a German it´s not easy to get quick and mumbled English ;-)

  • thanks

  • hey thanks for responding so fast and i will continue to show my friends your videos and i will keep watching

  • best poolvideo I've seen so far. Keep up the good work, really. It's inspiring.

  • You know, you can do a simple "curve around a ball" shot without even elevating the cue. Just use low and english toward the ball that's in the way. For example, if the interfering ball is on the right side of the path to the object ball, use low right english and shoot the cue-ball so it just misses the interfering ball on the left side. The cue ball will hook around the ball and hit your object ball. It almost looks like it goes through the other ball when you do it correctly.

  • @mtszabo

That would give you a very slight curve. With more elevation, you get a deeper curve, which is generally what you need. If the cue stick were absolutely level (which just is never the case), then there would be no curving no matter how much english is put on the cue, which is just to make a point that the level of elevation is pretty important.

  • @ehsanul

Yes, true. I was merely pointing out that you don't need to do a full masse every time you need to curve the ball, providing that you don't need it to curve very much.

  • If you can make it do that S shape in the first example we can get rich kid!!!

  • i cant seem to do this with my hands on the table, i keep them suspended in the air, same with the cue. and i still cant do it very well. am i supposed to keep them on the table or could i exercise it with my hands suspended in the air?

  • very nice

  • I'm curious, do you use short cues for masse, or do you use the regular long cues?

  • Awesome stuff, as usual!

  • Damn, you have the best instructional pool videos I've seen on the net so far. Don't stop doing these please. lol

  • how do u do that with ur middle finger, u like bent it to the side

  • I am an extremely flexible person. No joke.

  • people have differences in felxibilty of teh fingers. Also the brain area that creates teh feeling and movement for the fingers differs per person. Guitar players have big area's, so have pool players. However you can train the flexibility and that area by... training it :)

  • thanks a lot man! i really didnt know how to perform this shot but with this video i think i already got an idea on how to do it....thanks again

  • Glad I could help. Tell a friend about me.

  • forcefollow where are you f rom
