these guys were geniuses ... simply like that ... . I'd only heard three or four of their songs ... but their creative sense had no limit ... I've cried listening 'em ... they didn't deserve such a fate.
Holy fuck this is like the song (Listen to the) Flower People from Spinal Tap! Jesus Christ I wish I'd never heard this, I lost a lot of respect for Badfinger at this moment. And I had very little to begin with. No wonder they all tried to kill themselves.
@alexwinter666 Please don't say things like that about Badfinger, this sounds nothing like the flower people, I've seen the movie a million times. It's alright if you don't like the song but you don't have to go as far as to mock their suicides.
@alexwinter666 Lol what an idiotic comment, Lol saying THIS song sounds like a song that came out 2 - 2 1/2 decades later! this guy has to be joking, so I'll cut him some slack, just as I would ANY mentally incompitent person! :) you go have a nice day now!
Apologies for this comment. I have been struggling with alcohol problems and I believe I made this comment under the influence. I'm still not a fan of this song but Badfinger was a great band.
All the bands in the 60's and 70's looked up to the Beatles, the most original, prolific and talented rock band of the era...so they emulate them except the Stones.
@fenderstratguy I don't think you got what I meant right: they're playing guitar but you can't hear any guitar in the mix once the strings come in, that's just awful.
I am related to the drummer, Michael Gibbins,( half first cousin once removed ) but I didn't know until a few months before he died :( They were really great, and I wish they had had more success in Britain.
@ckycrew416 They looked liked the Beatles because they are closely associated with the Beatles, the first group that was signed by Apple Records and managed, controlled by the selfish Allen Klein who did not release their album in the UK and US. It is very popular in Italy and Asia esp in Japan because it was only released there. They could have been as popular as the Beatles.
EVERYONE (except Tiny Tim) looked liked the Beatles at the time! Definitely a lot of unique substance within the vast and wonderful Badfinger collection.
@ckycrew416 Actually Paul McCartney demanded they wear the suits for this promo film and for the promotional pics. Read the incredible book for more info. Its called Without You: The Tragic Story Of Badfinger by Dan Matovina. All kinds of details on The Iveys and Badfinger
The recording industry insured the death of the Ivey's aka Badfinger. They raped them and took their souls, and they had no other way out then to do themselves in. God bless Badfinger.
The recording industry insured the death of the Ivey's aka Badfinger. They raped them and took their souls, and they had no other way out then to do themselves in. God bless Badfinger.
This is possibly the most underrated pop classic of all time...
For me as great as the "Badfinger" years were, the first album as the Iveys was more melodic and Ron Griffiths was a much better bassist than Tom Evans who switched from guitar after Joey Molland joined.
The song itself is beautifully written and sung by Tom Evans, with harmony from Pete Ham.
Wonderfully produced and arranged by Tony Visconti, this should have been a monster hit...It wasn't. A true injustice...
@ckycrew416 not only that, the drummer is pretty small, has a weird technique. The electric guitar guy is pretty big, and the bass and other guy are pretty small. Its just wtf
It looks to me like Pete Ham was having a lot more fun making music before Stan Polley got a hold of the band and ruined absolutely everything for them, you'll rarely see Pete smile in the later Badfinger videos. Stan Polley could not have had a conscience. The Badfinger story just makes me heartsick.
Too often evil seeks out and preys on the innocent.
I've been beginning to listen to Badfinger since I first heard about them about 2 days ago. And I gotta say they have changed the way I listen to a lot music, recently. I really love their music and I was bummed out when I realized Pete and Tom commited suicide. I'm just somehow thankful for these guys for creating such beautiful classic rock music. And I'm glad I am now a fan of theirs.
It's sad that most kids today have heard of bands like The Eagles, The Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin and others, yet Badfinger is still the best kept secret (except maybe other than The MC5) in music. Those who do know of them only comment on 'what could've been...'. Perhaps we should just focus on what they DID! Amazing music!
@kride22 How underrated can be The Band be if they're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Yeah, like Mickey Mantle is underrated (but he's in the Hall of Fame, too).
This tears me up. I am utterly haunted by this band to the point where it sometimes hurts, but I love them so much that I would prefer suffering than living without their music in my life.
I believe the Iveys could've been as big as The Beatles.
I know they could've been as good as them just like "The Beatles 1970's generation". The Iveys messed up though, throughout the 1970's or so? I don't know much about them, I wish I was their producer/manager of them so I could save them from messing up, but there's nothing I could do...
great share LVEMEDO as always...i love badfinger with their very familiar sound if u know what i mean..lol very sad story though for this great band from the sixties and seventies
One of the top songs and records ever recorded. I wish Ray Davies would have ended up producing them My original 45 on Apple under the name of the Ivey's is one of my treasured 45's with my kinks singles kollection.
i guess the bleeding heart beatles fans must have negative pointed me to the point that my comment dissapeared. but if you hit reply u will see it. all i was trying to say was that the beatles had so much and could have done more to save this band...but they didn't. they died broke. it was pocket change for apple to pull their sorry asses back to fame and fortune. but they didn't. why? I think they saw too much potential and hence...possibility that badfinger would get to big for their britches?
ah i got it(i mean after this reply ... not the first one that ppl thumbed down, was kinda too short and lack of explanation so ppl didn't know what u were trying to say i guess) i agree that The Beatles could have done something to save these poor boys but for some reason it didn't happen...i wish that Tom didn't have to follow the same tragic as what happened to Pete...anyway they'll still forever live in our hearts and will never be forgotten you know that !
I don't think it was a matter of rivalry but simple apathy. I think the members of the Beatles saw their own careers in a state of chaos and really weren't in tune with much else. However,I think those around Pete Ham did not see the desperation that poor man was in..somehow I don't think it was simply that his money had disappeared ..I think he was becoming dissolutioned with working with the likes of Joey Molland and the animosity that created with himself and Tom Evans.
Gorgeous song and one I'd loved way back when. Thank you for posting this, it's great to see them playing and singing this way. So young and hopeful; terribly sad.
GREAT song.. I wish The Iveys could've recorded this in like in 1963-1965 It would've done SO good. it was just too outdated for some fans in 1968
