Andras Jones, who plays Deke, is in this really cool interactive movie video game called Night Trap which was made a year before this episode. They have a "movie version" of the game on Youtube.

Deke can't read. Well that explains a lot about why he does so poorly, why he bullies other kids to do his work for him and why he tries to cheat on tests by copying other kids' answers. You can't do well on tests if you can't read the questions and you can't write reports if you can't even read what you're writing.
