Wonders me about all the sand you got in your mortar, did it make it to crack when firing and does this have good enough heat retention with only one layer of bricks? Others I've seen have two or more thicknesses of brick.
Sorry for the delay in replying. It's been a busy fall. Actually outdoor, free-standing ovens like this one commonly have the oven at the rear because it's easier to build. Front chimney flues are used here in central Pennsylvania typically when part of an open fireplace arrangement in a summer kitchen, the gases come forward into the main chimney. Thanks for asking. I have never seen hand packing mortar? he was getting allot of sand in his mix. that will cause cracking. looks good though

Why is the chimney in the back? Arnt they normally in the front? Any advantage dis-advantage to this?
