  • many of the things stated in this segment is true, but the U.S has helped Haiti in many humanitarian aspects, which is good, but the U.S has not been too willing to allow it's small neighbor to be independent and reform their society, simple bad things happen in many countries, people have to learn from it to fix their society. The U.S cannot determine the destiny for others, countries have to determine their own and learn from their mistakes. Not the U.S.

  • What he said? Twice he stated that the earthquake was not a natural phenomenon. What does he mean? He is making a veiled reference to a conspiracy theory started by Hugo Chavez who said that the earthquake was the result of bombs exploded by the Americans in the Atlantic. He also said that the Americans blocked the airport to prevent doctors from providing needed help. Only idiots would believe such things. The Americans brought in a hospital ship and even sent some of the injured to the US.

  • this is the type of truth you don't see on cnn.

  • The situation in Haiti is indeed a catch22. There is no doubt that if all the money went to the Haitians, even less would be done. History is our witness. On the other side, few NGOs do anything significant for the millions received. But the NGOs' presence is the lesser of two evils. The world has now reacted from previous experience. It is not the first time they had to pour millions to rescue Haiti. Ray Laforest is a moron; his statements about the Americans and the disaster are outrageous.

  • @GMcMillan3

what was it that he said that got you riled up?

  • @GMcMillan3 hmm true, but the U.S. gave money to puppet governments it knew were corrupt and abusive, so the U.S added to the problem, also businesses are basically tax free which even fuels the corruption more in Haiti. If businesses were tax free in the U.S and nobody paid taxes which would be good but not feasible, government would not serve people, but itself by being extremely corrupt.

  • If you read the reports coming from organizations on the ground (from the last two years), the evidence is sound that the NGO's are NOT getting the money to the areas where it is needed. There was a report released about Clinton's organization having sent faulty trailers to communities - trailers that were hazardous. Even Haitian professional orgs in the US have tried to represent the voices of the people to the UN. True, the Haitian gov't has not shown leadership, but there is a realproblem.

  • There wasn't enough diversity of opinion for this interview.

  • @Delta4ms

    do you dispute anything said?

  • These guys are full of it. If the money had been given to the Haitian government two years ago, today it would all be gone. The country would still be in ruins and Haiti would have some of the richest civil servants in the world. The Haitian government has shown everyone, including their people, that it cannot be trusted.

These three guys are pro-Aristide flunkies. What a biased discussion this is. A complete waste of time. These giys want Aristide back. Sheesh!

  • @joel1923 well i guess brasil which has plenty of corruption and crime, but still its economy booms, i wonder, but yet the U.S in the past has given puppet governments like duvalier money and knowingly knew he was corrupt lol, the society has to be educated so its citizens could reform its government and make it accountable, the average Haitian is poor and has nothing to lose, thus there is distrust and a lack of interest in the government by the citizen.

  • omg really
