the leafs record is only as bad as it is because we started the year with toskala, who has never really proved himself to be starting goalie material at any point in his career. i love tosky but he'll make for a good backup. ontop of that we were without one of the better forwards you can find in the league. those missed points in the first 10 or so games may come back to haunt us, but at the same time with the team we have now we are only a few wins from being back in the mix. Not so bad

No...the leafs start was due to shitty defense and pk. They played horrible in front of Toskala. Then got yelled at and played well in front of a rookie. Which is what Gustavsson is...a rookie. Toskala has put up #1 goalie numbers, and has way more nhl experience, he is still the leafs best goalie and with the team playing ok, they need to get him back in there. The rookie wont be able to carry the load. Toskala can.

Toskala has never "put up #1 goalie numbers"....he played well for 2 weeks w/ the Sharks and has had 0 consistency since he came to Toronto. He has never been able to make the big save at the crucial time in a game, and his glove hand is...well, non-existent.

The Leafs season and any possible success they may have rests solely on Gustavsson...he is now our #1 goalie....you should accept this.

Well I can tell by the start of you're argument you clearly must be of the high intelligence section of hockey fans. I love Ozzy but even when we won the Cup in '08 he had to do very little. I could of played goalie and they still would have won a cup with a defense like they had then. Detroit gave up the least amount of shots per game in the NHL so its not like he had to do very much. Even the quality of shots was below average. If we had the Monster in net this year our record would be better

I am happy with the way the team is playing now and it's a good sign that we're coming out of this but we still have a lot of work to do to get at the level we should have expected by now. Toskala has had to battle back from surgery and a knee injury to go along with the pressure to perform with the way Gustavsson has played in net for the Leafs. Schenn hasn't played well this year but last night he played really well.

Hmm. I live in Brandon, where Brayden Schenn plays, and I get to as many Wheat Kings games as I can before he heads over to play with LA. So far this season he's played 17 games, has 24 points and has a +/- of 11.

Don't get me wrong, Luke is a gem for this team, but I think Brayden is going to have a more .. I don't know if successful is the right word to use, but a more 'successful' career.

Shame we never got 'em.

1) Luke and Brayden were drafted in differnet years so why would you want one over the other ?

2) One is a defenceman the other is a forward cant really compare the 2

3) Brayden has admitted that Luke is way more powerful then him strength wise so ha

4) Kadri is the guy we drafted instead of Brayden and he has way more offensive upside which is what this team lacks especially in their prospects.

Uh, wow. I enjoyed that game a whole lot. Still, seems to me that the Leafs aren't done improving if they want to be taken seriously. It's absurd to think the leafs are going to get anywhere near the playoffs by riding the back of a few individuals (maybe five) all season long. Stajan needs to play better for one, Schenn seems to finally be coming to life, and Johnny Mitchell seems to have turned things around. You know who's playing good this year and we all forget it? Jason Blake. Just sayin'.

I, unlike many leaf fans was never a fan of Luke Schenn i just couldn't get excited about a defender that only scored 15 points in a season, I know he is a shut down guy but even there he isn't that great, he dosen't have a great shot and this year his shut down skills have got worse, and he has been sloppy with the penalties i do honestly hope he can turn it around but if he dosen't there is gonna be alot of disappointment.

the big problem with the Leafs D is you have 4 guys that thrive on big minutes (schenn, Komi, bosh and Kabbi) Only Kabby is better with less time. through in the fact white deserves more ice time. and you have guys trying to do to much with the time they get.

Gustavson is the main reason we keep winning and getting points in consecutive games, whereas with Toskalol you need to score 20 goals just to win in overtime, Gustavson DEVOURS THE SOULS OF FORWARDS and provides monster (pun fully intended) goaltending. btw, White for Captain

The Leafs 2 game win streak is nice... but would anyone think I am crazy to say that this was no FLUKE!!!!

This team is playing better systems, and when they falter, Gustavson is there to bail them out. Jonas even said it himself, it takes time to get used to playing with his Dmen, and even the Dmen have to get used to playing on a new team. (i.e. Bauchemin and Komasarik).

In the case of the Dmen, more IS LESS. They need to look after their own end, and stop getting caught up the ice.

Anyways solid effort from the Leafs last night, I think that they have confidence in Gustavson, and thats something they havent had in Toskala in some time. So now the leafs realize they can be competitive against any team. Its still early to talk playoffs. the leafs really dug themselves a hole with the start they had. However they keep scraping wins together and playing like a team and I see them the post season.
