He has a great voice, probably the best of the 3. However, I just saw (Three Dog Night - 1) this past Saturday night (10-1-2011) and they were excellent. It would be a treat to hear them together again. I haven't seen Chuck live, and do want to. I believe there are songs that "Three Dog Night" don't perform because without Chuck, they can't give it justice. They did not perform "Eli's Coming" or "Pieces of April". I will say that the only one that could perform solo is Chuck. Corey's good.
@thugthumper1 -Last year they did !( and did a great job still , just google the video , someone has posted it ) this year I think they squeezed in some new songs on their lists , so"Eli" got bumped.
THOSE 2 JACKASS'S REFUSE TO PERFORM WITH CHUCK. TALKING ABOUT CUTTING OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACE. THAT REUNION TOUR WOULD SELL OUT ACROSS THE COUNTY! ALL ABOUT THEIR EGOS-SO DUMB!
Chuck and Laura Nyro who was Laura Nigro back then both grew up in the same Bronx neighborhood, Chuck was a bit older but I went to Wade Junior High with her and used to hear him singing doo wop with his friends on 170th street and The Grand Concourse ,Bronx on summer nights.
@echoNpapa The bass player is the son of Berry Oakley who was bass player for the Allman Brothers Band. He is Berry Oakley Jr. and he is Chuck's stepson.
Chuck played in my town about a year ago. The who show was high energy. and Chuck sang all the hits. They sounded great on every song! And then, I thought to myself, that if 2 dog night came here tomorrow, I wouldn't bother to go see them. I just don't believe they could top Chuck Negron's band. And as far as I'm concerned, Chuck Negron is the face, and voice of Three Dog Night anyway. So, Do It Chuck !
OMG Chuck is the greatest... Eat your heart out Danny and Cory... Nothing like Chuck... Glad to hear Floyd is on board too. Hope to get to see you sometime. When are you coming to Southern Ohio?
Actually, both Wells and Negron were both huge voices, just depends on the hit. Too bad they cant find a way to three-unite....shit, they'd be playing Vegas and such.. The music was THAT good.
I love TDN and Chuck, but the original version by Laura Nyro is the best. It's unplugged and very soulful. Don't get me wrong, I love this video, thumbs up!
I respectfully disagree! IMHO it was always Cory Wells - Chuck was important but Cory was the main force. Imho. For video proof check out the youtube vid of Cory singing Try A Little Tenderness in 1975.
@sweetsueohio Not totally correct. It took all three to make the sound. The blend was second to none. I hope and wish for at least a reunion show someday. Read Chuck's book and you will know why they do not perform together. It would be an awesome show, 5 of the 6 original members on the road. I met chuck and he said he would like to see it to, but there are behind the scene issues.
@FogerRox@FogerRox That may be true, but Chuck is not in the group. It is billed as 3 Dog Night, but will only have Cory and Danny singing. If you go, you will find it an awesome show, but do remember they are all getting older. Cory and Danny own the rights to the group's name and are the only one's that can perform as such. Chuck must use small lettering when reffering to his time with TDN in print. He must also use the term FORMER.
@realfoneguy Thats a shame. Thanks. All 3 had good voices, that were slightly different from each other, giving them the ability to sound complimentary to each other. Of course Chuck had a little better technique and good power in his upper range, which still shows in these newer videos, he can still belt it out, and make it look easy.
@calligal55 The only way to do this is to convince Cory to bury the hatchet. Lots of betrayal and hurt from the past with all due respect to Chuck, it is unfortunate that Cory and Danny can't forgive and move on. They were at one time "Great Friends". Cory and Danny have to let loose of the purse strings as well. They won't get Chuck for free.
OMG! (to coin an overused abbreviation.) I am blown away by his voice and by this performance. His voice is like the fine raw silk! WOW! AAAmazzzinggg!
Hey, I like Chuck as much as anyone, but Cory Wells owns this song. He's got the blues / R&B element to his voice the Chuck has never had. Just like Cory will never have the high soaring quality of Chuck. It's what made the original TDN work. All three vocalists were distinctive.
I agree. I am a major three dog night fan and my favorite was Chuck. Their distinctive voices is what made them great. Chuck does a great job on this but it's definitely Cory's song. It would be like Cory doing "One"
@acecheeto Honestly... Except for Chuck on Chuck's original parts, this sounds like some lightweight 80's synth band doing a ciover of Eli's coming.
Compare this to the 7 minute Two Dog version of a couple of years ago, and you realize how key Jimmy and Michael are to the orginal sound too. It rocks WAY-WAY harder than this - not just on Cory's vocal but on the guitar work too.
You just wish the boys could patch it up one last time.
I agree totally agree with everything DaddyClb said. I just saw Danny and Cory perform this past May and they do not have THE LIFE this man has. Flat lined. I left sad. I just finished Chucks book and am in shock he is alive and doing SO FABULOUS! Cant wait to see him live again!!
Very clever use of old & new footage...really enjoyed that. And Chuck sounds as good as ever, especially considering what he's been through. The man should be dead. He's a walking miracle and a testiment that there's hope for hopeless dope addicts everywhere! Keep jammin', Chuck!!! Show Cory & Danny that you don't need them...THEY NEED YOU!!!!!!
They appeared just outside of Rochester, in Farmington at Finger Lakes racetrack. Is that the appearance you're talking about? You can still see The Grassroots there in a few weeks (first Wednesday in August, I think).
Saw Danny and Cory a few months ago. Seems something was missing. Kick ass music though. They will always rock. I think Chuck has the best voice though.
I was about to ask the same ? Cory & Danny's 3DN are scheduled for Hot Springs this summer but I just don't see myself making it because I've seen em in Little Rock but if Floyd & Chuck were there so would I. I think drug abuse destroyed there relationship according to the VH1 behind the music Doc.
Chuck Negron wrote a fascinating biography called "Three Dog Nightmare". In it, he explains everything that happened with TDN, including his years of heroin addiction, that caused him to be fired from the band and never return. He lost everything and the book chronicles his long journey back from hell. He is truly a walking miracle!!! I'd love to see him rejoin TDN, but am convinced that's never gonna happen. Too bad...he's still my favorite singer out of the three. You'll love the book!
@keed48 WAR? Yea there was years of drug abuse and all kinds of things. Find a book called Three Dog Nightmare by Chuck. I think I would be angry with him as well, but I would surely forgive him later in life. There is no doubt that Chuck was the driving voice, but the remaining 2 along with Jimmy and Mike make an awesome show. 5 of the 6 original members are still active. I only hope for a reunion someday.
@keed48 Constant heavy drug abuse, but Danny was in it as well and he did not get thrown out, but he cleaned up where Chuck kept doing drugs. The agreement was to clean up or loose and be kicked out of the group and some of his rights were taken away, but they play each other's songs with no dispute.
