I have a 92' W140 600 SEL with an aftermarket flip touch screen 7 in DVD so yes you can change out the radio. It works good. Man it's hard to see such destruction of perfectly good cars.

I love how the first guy has an after market radio in the car...

especially since it's not possible to do. lol

The BOSE system they have in the car only works with the radio they have in it. :P

That's the only bad thing about the W140.

Of course, the bass from it is freaking awesome! so you really can't complain. :)

@Kelsie154 Interesting statement - I have a touch screen Pioneer DVD/CD/HDD/Navi system in my W140.

My friend has an Alpine Memory Stick/Ipod head unit and as far as I know, all single DIN size head units fit just fine.

I know that the S models CAN be changed... but the SEL's can't unless the amp is switched. even then there's no guarantee.

I was told this by a Mercedes representative... so don't blame me if I'm incorrect.

diference betwen SE and SEL...that L means LONG...w140 SE is 5115mm long...and SEL is 5215mm long...10cm...on the rear door...is sel longer,that is the only diference

Well, I dunno what the rep was talking about... because Ive never heard of that, and Ive owned 3 mercs personally. - W126 W140 and W202 - and they all had aftermarket stereos. Just like any other car really.

@HeisW140 The W140 (early models 90-94) is the only one that can't have the radio switched out... so they say. The one's after they changed SEL to S... you can. Different amp and wire set up.

We've been looking up adapters... but we can't find anything. :/

My mom has a W202 and she has an aftermarket radio in it... so I know that one can.

@HeisW140 I wanted to change the stereo for my W140 coupe. The audio guys said that the amp needs to be changed with the subwoofer if I want an after market radio. There is someway of doing it without completely changing everything by buying this wire online but I was told you would lose audio from two of the speakers and I don't remember about the subwoofer. I was told to get an equivalent audio system of an original benz from these years, it would cost 3 grand. :D

@MisterDrB Those "audio guys" don't know shit about these cars... yes you can integrate a new head unit with the original Bose system without losing any sound quality at all... you will need a wiring harness adaptor, ground isolators for low level audio outputs and maybe a antenna adaptor, with some skills its easy to do the change... make sure your new radio has pre-amp outputs, 4V minimum but more is better...

@Kelsie154 its 92"...in the middle of the car,you have switch back/front spekears...and from that goes 2 wires on radio...cause old radios have only 2 ways out...so you can put radio on 2 ways,or you can take new wires to in front,so have 4...sorry on my bad english...and S has nothing to do with SEL...every w140 is S class...but you have SE and SEL model...its only abouth the lenght...sel is 10cm longer...than is classic,SE...i drive 92" s320...and model of the car,is 300SE...get it?s600-600SE

That was the Peacemaker I believe. I love that movie haven't seen it in such along time I'm glad someone still remembers this scene because it was one of my favorites. Really shows the power of the W140. =)
