Could anyone recommend other Imee Ooi mantras/chants that have this same beat? She has many beautiful slower pieces but I have yet to find another with this energy and pace.
are you reading this?? my deepest apologies! just had to ask you follow BUDDHISTS out there......... ANGER DUDES!!!! WAT PURE LAND?????HOW ARE YOU WALKING THE PURE PATH??? BY CON-DAMNING OTHERS???
YOU!!!CALL YOURSELF A BUDDHIST???
huhuhu.. does that sound angry and like i know what i'm talking about?
my most sincere apologies to those whom are offended.
BUDDHA AMIDA is the ONLY ANSWER. HE SAVES ALL while Jesus only saves those loony enough to believe that God needs a blood sacrifice to forgive us all because a talking serpent convinced a rib woman to eat a forbidden fruit from a magic tree. Christianity was spread by violence unlike BUDDHISM -- the religion of the future. Buddha walked on water and rose the dead before Jesus. Google it! Namo Amida Butsu --- The ONLY answer for the world.
@MultiPopculture im a buddhist but this is pure bigotry how dare u say that such and such a faith spreads hate while you yourself spout hate about christianity. This is unbuddhist and not only have you insulted all other buddhist sects and potentialy cause a rift between students of other tradtions and their lineage by saying pureland is better, which is unlogical because all PURE pathes of buddhism lead to nirvana thus shown shallowness as wisdom thus insulting pureland philosophy.
@KOTAROINUGAMIsama I respect all Buddhist traditions and all faiths but I will not allow Christians to insult Buddha and get away with it. Christians attack Buddha all the time and we will not stand by idly. All Christians and Muslims who are attacking the Buddha worldwide must know that we Buddhists can retaliate and protect the Dharma.
@MultiPopculture Yes i total agree with what u say how ever to attack some one regardless of what is said only feed more anger and more hate thus causing more suffering some times it is better to manifest metta and look the other way and treat what is said as spirtual practice. If one looks in the sutras in particular the ones relateing to the practice of bodhisattva vows one can see from the stories of great masters that one must defeat ones anger and aversion in order to achieve buddha nature
@KOTAROINUGAMIsama Yes friend, I agree. I have no anger for myself but I humbly believe Buddhism needs a wake-up call. Islam and Christianity are still converting the world by force and we Buddhists MUST BE STRONG. WE MUST UNITE. WE MUST DEFEND THE DHARMA. WE MUST PROTECT OUR CULTURE, OUR WAY OF LIFE & THE TEACHINGS OF THE BUDDHAS. Sometimes a teacher must be strong and loud to make his point. I am driven by love and I just want Buddhists to wake up for Dharma and to stand tall and strong! :)
@MultiPopculture i also agree with this idea how ever one must not be to extreme in how one goes about ones goals this is the middle way and i comend u on your gaol. We must pay attention to our actions for they reflect directly on our gurus and more so on the buddha so therfore if one uses forceful means to promote buddhism those who do not know will think baddly of this religion.
buddhisme is the "zuhud" way means your no longer attached yourself to the material in this world, many sufi do this coz this is the universal way to release yourself to your ego, your anger, and lust...I am a muslim with hindu names and with the spiritual guidance of buddhisme..Namo Buddhaya...
You don't have to drop yr religion to learn Buddhism as Buddhism is not a religion but understanding the way of life and the Universe. Compassion to all sentiment beings in ten direction and cultivate or practice kindness and understanding.
There is so much hatred and anger in this world. People need to start realise that they need to train away their hatred and anger and that it only leads to destruction and nothing else. I wish all humanity could turn to Buddhism and we would all live in peace. The Abrahamic religions will never cause peace on earth. But Buddhism will.
@loordargyle Buddhism has had plenty of violence. that's coming from an honest Buddhist, myself, by the way. The theocracies in Tibet, the warrior monks in feudal-Japan, Shaolin, the list goes on. The religions themselves don't cause the violence, but the human's and believer's obsession with their group's supremacy. Buddhism has solid philosophical foundations, but it's history isn't as pure as you think, friend. Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers rebels and the monk connection are yet another example.
@Bodhidharma1986 "plenty of violence"? continue the list please. Ill be making sure you correctly name the groups. because false information can be considered slanderous.
@rodoflight2 What false info? You haven't heard of the Tamil Tigers? Tibet was very violent before Buddhism came and had violence as it was settling, but DECLINED (was not ELIMINATED). That doesn't mean its nonexistent. Buddhism is quite peaceful now (and its pop status solidifies that for its public relations side) but it has a rocky history, like all religions. That's all I'm saying. I can ask the same for you. What proof is there for nonviolence that's not scriptures? Any prophet can preach.
@Bodhidharma1986 Sorry, I didnt know that when you meant "the list goes on", you would name two more group. It very confusing to me for the Tamil Tigers to be destorying Buddhist Shrines and commit war crimes to be considered to be Buddhist! Secondly, during the time when Tibet was "very violent", recording history was pretty awful. But im guessing you lived through that era.
what are you saying in the last question? I totally dont understand, when i just ask for one simple question.
@rodoflight2 Whats the point of talking then if history is subjective? So, because I didn't live there and during that time we cant talk about history? Lol. Whatever. You missed the point of my original post anyways. In your view then, no information can be classified as "false", considering it's so subjective. History is written by doctrinaires, ideologists, and propagandists anyhow. Subjective history and lying are what's slanderous, to you, me, and The Buddha. Not me. I'm just conversing.
@Bodhidharma1986 i think u missed my original reply. Sure history may be subjective. But its people like you stating theses facts.
1) whats is the lists that has to do "The theocracies in Tibet, the warrior monks in feudal-Japan, Shaolin, the list goes on." You gave me a false statement of the Tamil Tigers (not a Buddhist group), and a subjective history of tibet.
2) You say in your original post religion dont cause violence, but people. Yes true. "but the human's and believer's obsession with their group's supremacy.?" wtf?

Buddhism is not the type of religion that demands exclusivity. In fact, many would argue that it is not a religion at all. Wherever it has traveled, it has blended with the local culture, in China with Taoism and Confucianism, in Tibet with Bon, in Japan with Shinto. I once met a young lady who was a Mormon Buddhist! You do not have to give up anything to follow the teachings of the Buddha. I was raised in a family that was Baptist and 7th Day Adventist. I went to church on Saturday and Sunday!
I know how you feel. I am happy that I can learn from the teachings of the Buddha and I am not demanded or forced to give up my customs and traditions. In fact, since Catholics kiss holy objects a lot, I kiss my mala (rosary) as a sign of reminding myself of how precious the Buddha's teachings are, I am showing that the teachings are very dear and precious to me.
The Buddha itself refuses to be deitified, but sadly, many of today's Buddhist, they attached themselves to much to worshipping spirits instead of finding the real happiness, and thus gave birth to many cult such as Dorge shugen
@nNewInBuddhism you were wrong, Islamic god is not Peta, it's the creator, which could be associated to Brahma. The creator, It wasnt spelt Peta by the way, it is spelt as Preta. buddhism is not about worshipping god, it is about cessation of our craving and obtain enlightenment. It is not about converting to another religion, it is about being compassion, and kind to another being. Converting may hurt your father and mother, a true buddhist would never ask you to do that.
Ahh... what a nice song. How foolish am i...I was once an god damn islam but after being taught about BUDDHISM... i became enlightened and when i taught them to my family , me and my family decide to convert to BUDDHISM because all these time we been praying to peta (Ghost)...so we knew that BUDDHISM is the true path for us. So may the Buddha bless all of you. Sadhu..Sadhu..Sadhu..
@nNewInBuddhism damn u had it easy, i tryed telling my mom that it's really hard for me to believe in islam n she was mad at first, she still does occasionally mad that i listen to mantras n have a small buddha in my room but i just remind her that it doesn't matter what religion ur born into, as long as ur kind n compassionate
@dBoiDaGr8 just remind them that at the end of the day it doesnt matter who u worship because all that matters is that u care for each other n love each , the difference in the way of perceiving shouldn't play a factor on whether to love someone or not
@rezartsy I was born Catholic and became an Evangelical because of my dad. It was a very positive experience, but then I became Buddhist, too, and bought a statue of the Buddha, and my dad was so angry he even threatened to throw it away! Hahaha. He never did, though.
@rezartsy : I agreed. Believing in a religion is to believe in the goodness of yourself and others. I believe in Buddhism because it teaches compassion. I think every religion is great if it teaches you to be kind and helpful to others. I think sometimes people get too carry away and forget the real meaning of having a religion. Religion is love, it does not matter if you're buddhist, christian, catholic, orislam.
@rezartsy How did you come to Buddhism, especially from Islam? I am assuming the form you practiced was particularly strict, if your mother's response is any indication.
@Sarakiel my family isnt strict about following the religion(well the only religious thing they do is fast),they just strongly believe that islam is the only right one.anyway late in my teenage years, when i really started to think logically n outside the box,i realized that theres really no way to determine which one is "the religion",i realized that dogma was bs n has the same purpose in every religion(that have dogma), n it was dogma that drove me away from islam(or any other dogmaticreligion>
@rezartsy The Dalai Lama was asked "what is the best religion"
He answered,The religion that makes you have more compassion, more love, more kindness to other beings, less selfish, more forgiving, more peace with yourself, having less ego, more generous,is the best religion for you.
@somsom007@rezartsy The Dalai Lama also said, "All religions have potential to make good people, nice people. Not good faces, nice faces. But good hearts, nice hearts. Compassionate people."
The man is amazing. We should all follow his example in compassion and love. To be exiled from his country for so long, a country that has been occupied by China for so long, yet he still holds no grudges and wishes nothing negative upon them. Simply amazing.
@m1k3z0r2 A attended his public talk in Atlanta a few years ago.I felt like I have met a living Bhodisattawa ! He always radiates love, compassion and joy beyond words. He respects and honors all religions and trying to bring unity to all faiths.I am so thankful to have learned from this living Bhodisattawa. The world needs more religious leaders like him.
@somsom007 With all due respects, the Dalai Lama is a complete fraud. He will say anything he is told to say by Western PR experts. The real teachings of Buddhism are with Shakyamuni, not Tenzin Gyatso who is a fraud out and out.
@Sarakiel i did some research, n tryin to find a religion that fit my beliefs, eventually i came to buddhism. once i read about it i realized i had believed in it's philosophy all my life. it just makes sense to me n i believe its a way of understanding urself n how one should live life through urself n not through other people's perception of "god" (ex. jesus, mohamed (pbuh), moses, n so on)
@sysyy1 its not really "betraying". He is just changing. He is free to choose his religion. Not happy with Islam? Leave. Not happy with Buddhism? Change.
@sysyy1 ya i know, i still believe in god, but in a different non-dogmatic way. i dislike the dogma and how it restricts and scares ppl. they feel that they MUST do/speak/believe what the religious text says. i guess what im getting at is that such strict religions aren't forgiving of anyone who chooses to do/speak/believe otherwise and has the need to punish. i believe that as a human being should be able to choose what is right, whether thatd be the religion ur born into or another one/none
@YTR0009 avalokiteshara is guan yin, but female form. In the Lotus Sutra, Skayamuni Buddha said that Avalokitesharva can be any form, to preach the dharma. Guan Yin is a bodhistavva. Skayamuni Buddha is a buddha. The Video is showing buddha, but it could have shown Avalokitesharva.
You should read the 25th chapter of the Lotus Sutra
The Blue-throated One is a name of Lord Shiva. it refers to the legend of how, during the churning of the world-ocean, he swallowed the Halahala poison produced by the demons, thus saving the world from destruction. He kept the poison in his throat, which turned blue as a result.
Is this for meditation? Doesn't sound like it...LOL... if you read the translation, it basically asks for the 'Blue Necked One' to come down and destroy the poison.
It is not a song, it's dharani - some kind of long spiritual expression (usually recited or sung) with mantra inside itself. The point is peace of mind and also support for meditation. Especially for ascetics or jogins, who use it as a an instrument of concentration.
But, in this case, it's got musical connotations. And notes. It isn't a chant, that's just the name of the original, as they couldn't name it "That funky sounding Sanskrit thing". It's a song now.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I YHWH thy Father am a jealous Father, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
From November 18th to the 23rd, 2009 Palden Dorje will be giving blessings in Gadhi Mai. He plans this appearance in order to protest the sacrificing of tens of thousands of animals before they take place on the 24th at the Gadhi Mai Festival near Nijgad in Bara District. Please participate in any way you can. Tell all your friends! There is also a news article and a petition to stop Gadhi Mai animal sacrifice.

@kobodaichi52

@rezartsy I was born Catholic and became an Evangelical because of my dad. It was a very positive experience, but then I became Buddhist, too, and bought a statue of the Buddha, and my dad was so angry he even threatened to throw it away! Hahaha. He never did, though.

@TheSantAndres thats good that he didnt throw it away, its not like they can force us to unbelieve wat we believe

@TheSantAndres You don't have to be a Buddhist,be a Buddha instead.I am sure that if you practice like the Buddha did,you father will be very happy!
supawanich00 1 year ago
@rezartsy : I agreed. Believing in a religion is to believe in the goodness of yourself and others. I believe in Buddhism because it teaches compassion. I think every religion is great if it teaches you to be kind and helpful to others. I think sometimes people get too carry away and forget the real meaning of having a religion. Religion is love, it does not matter if you're buddhist, christian, catholic, orislam.
orangejuicerox 1 year ago
@rezartsy How did you come to Buddhism, especially from Islam? I am assuming the form you practiced was particularly strict, if your mother's response is any indication.
Sarakiel 1 year ago

You can make your own call, best wishes top you.
somsom007 1 year ago 31
@somsom007 @rezartsy The Dalai Lama also said, "All religions have potential to make good people, nice people.

The world needs more religious leaders like him.
somsom007 4 months ago
@somsom007 With all due respects, the Dalai Lama is a complete fraud. He will say anything he is told to say by Western PR experts. The real teachings of Buddhism are with Shakyamuni, not Tenzin Gyatso who is a fraud out and out.
MultiPopculture 1 month ago
@Sarakiel i did some research, n tryin to find a religion that fit my beliefs, eventually i came to buddhism. once i read about it i realized i had believed in it's philosophy all my life. it just makes sense to me n i believe its a way of understanding urself n how one should live life through urself n not through other people's perception of "god" (ex. jesus, mohamed (pbuh), moses, n so on)

@sysyy1 Oh, and why not being buddhist and appreciating Islam? ^^
xinkon 8 months ago
@sysyy1 ya i know, i still believe in god, but in a different non-dogmatic way. i dislike the dogma and how it restricts and scares ppl. they feel that they MUST do/speak/believe what the religious text says. i guess what im getting at is that such strict religions aren't forgiving of anyone who chooses to do/speak/believe otherwise and has the need to punish. i believe that as a human being should be able to choose what is right, whether thatd be the religion ur born into or another one/none

YTR0009 1 year ago

He kept the poison in his throat, which turned blue as a result.
anjaladevi 2 years ago 7
Is this for meditation? Doesn't sound like it...LOL... if you read the translation, it basically asks for the 'Blue Necked One' to come down and destroy the poison.
Sounds more like it's for cleansing.

Sasukekillsitachi 2 years ago
It is not a song, it's dharani - some kind of long spiritual expression (usually recited or sung) with mantra inside itself. The point is peace of mind and also support for meditation. Especially for ascetics or jogins, who use it as a an instrument of concentration.
Fladrif666 2 years ago
But, in this case, it's got musical connotations. And notes. It isn't a chant, that's just the name of the original, as they couldn't name it "That funky sounding Sanskrit thing". It's a song now.

Exodus 20-4,5,6
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I YHWH thy Father am a jealous Father, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Meditation is sitting in a particular formal posture and stilling the mind. It also include continuously familiarizing ourselves with positive thoughts.

One doesn't need to sit in a formal posture. Tai Chi is a form of meditation as it stills the thoughts. I believe Qigong works on the same principle
