  • one of my favorite toyahs..toyah still is as futuristic as ever.

  • Amazing energy..

  • FABOLOUS 80S!

  • my favourite toyah song

  • 6.55 Special was filmed at BBC Pebble Mill in Birmingham wasn't it? Would have thought the location of the Dome isn't too far away. Not the studio roof is it...

  • <3 this

  • MESSIAHHHH! NECRONOMICONNNN! Wow, if I were a film director in the 70s, I'd cast her as a Goddess.

  • Just wondered what dome this was filmed at ???

  • Thanks but wanted to know what sphere Toyah used to sing this track in it's like a half dome green house where was it!????

  • where was this filmed what dome was this?????

  • memories superb

  • Black boots and black tights. Superb.

  • love toyah

  • @Mr1ROYHUGHES

I hate the occult symbols in the video.

  • simply awsome :)

  • where was this recorded what dome is it ???

  • @tigermrk1 ..1980 on the album "THE BLUE MEANING"

  • One of my fave female artists. What a wild woman!

  • Wow, this lady is so far out! She should be in a sci-fi movie. I watch this for the simple reason that it's much more interesting than the bullshit that passes for music nowadays.

  • What can I say. Brings back so many memories

  • I mean I play her music (ALL) in my car, and the car is a Cougar (I guess Toyah is too...ummm).

  • Comment removed

  • I lived near her, damn if only! .. gawd what an interesting, fun life that would have been. Yes, even though I am far from home, I have Toyah in my Car, (Cougar) and play it loud over here to unsuspecting Americans.. :)

    Works for me :P

  • one of her best!

  • GRRRRRRR

  • Me Again!!! Has anyone got Toyah at the Rainbow VHS/DVD! I'd kill for a copy! Can anyone help!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)))) xxxx

  • Oh Lord I remember this first time around! Toyah you have so much to answer for! My Hair is bright purple and I forget my age! She invented Girl Power not the Fecking spice girls. GAG!

  • this is so so so well put together, thx for sharing and roll on April 23rd

  • Toyah! Toyah! Toyah! We all Love IEYA. Zion Zooberon Necromicon. I'm the beast. Beast of the jungle, beast of the streets, meet me, fear me.......And check out La Toyah on the rooftops. Don't jump Toyah! This was around The Changeling time as can be evidenced by the pink hairdo. We all loved that one. The normally carrot topped princess wore black contacts and dyed her hair pink to become our beloved Changeling. Toyah, you are a style and musiical icon. Keep rocking xx

  • june 82-

    tj

  • necronomicon ....utter class and never gonna be outclassed

  • AMAZING!

Sigh, females stance has gone now.

Really... Pink and Lady Ga Ga just don't have the energy of Toyah, Lene Lovich, Nina Hagen, Kate Bush, Siouxsie e.t.c....!

  • this is my only 2nd video see her, and a agree with you 100%!

  • @nouveauxdecadence

Totally agree on that. I love the synth-pop of the 80's and the New Romantic music.

Landscape is another favourite of mine in addition to those you mention.

  • @nouveauxdecadence

    Gaga is crap.

  • @ZLUGGO You r so rite. Toyah is the queen

  • I don't think religion came into it. Ignorance yes but not religion.

Anyway Toyah broke new ground for female artistes.

The sound, the power, the image and the hair were a welcome change at the time.

  • Just ignore the ignorants and don't let them get to you. And there's always block ;)

  • I think it's one of Toyah's best songs. It's simply magical in every way: music and vocals are simply amazing! Surprisingly, it wasn't even a minor hit in 82 even though 'Brave New World' and 'Be Proud, Be Loud' did pretty well.

Sometime I wish YouTube would disable bloody comments once and for all so that no bloody morons can ruin it for others. There's so much stupidity, hatred and negativity on here, it's bloody unbelieveable!

  • she is also famous for doing the voices on the teletubbies....

  • This is the 1982 remix version , mic better than the original IMO......

  • 676756 what thefuck is that supposed to be dim wit 676756 your pathetic

  • 676756565656 god your a complete retard, love to me you on a dark night. nice song Toyah its a pity this retard doesnt know what music is.

  • U should appreciate what was mainstream when it came out. Trust me it was american corporate engineered shit being rammed down our British throats and we hated it so punk was born. Toyah pushed the boundaries of female music.

"It's a mystery" & "I want to be free" where here iconic songs. The hair, image, & sound were all ground breaking.

If you like more modern stuff remember all artists take influence from what went before them.

Bear that in mind before you are so vitriolic next time.

  • Saw Toyah many times in the early 80's. ....at the Birmingham Odeon.....aahh the memories.

This has to be one of favourite songs played live....although Danced comes a close second.

    Great to see this again.

    Thans for posting this.

  • it's an ANKH

  • Thanks, I knew it was called something like that.

  • Thanks! I knew it was called something like that, how do you pronounce it?

  • Did you know that the Ankh was incorporated into the Christian faith when the ancient Coptic Egyptians converted to Christianity in the 2nd Century?

  • So The Ankh is now a Christian symbol, or are you saying The Ankh is pretty much the same as The Crucifix? I read your profile. You consider yourself the next prophet? Well guess what. You became what you always feared: delusional. A prophet would never announce themselves as such. Maybe they announce themselves as prophets in your mind, but just remember who writes and reads the books on this planet. Humans, us with the imperfect vision. Go about your good work and quit making claims.

  • Loving this chick!

  • Isn't that cross she is wearing the Egyptian cross of life? Can't remember the name of it though.

  • I didn't know Rainbow Brite came out with an album...

  • Can't be any cheesier that today's crap like britney spears...

  • fantastic I never seen this one before :)

  • very good track.

even nowadays Toyah's the best !

    xxx

  • Love this woman! Great blast from the past... such originality. Take note all you 'wannabees' of today

  • such an 80s song. its brill!

  • thank you thank you thank you, this is one of my fave tracks from the album, loving those mellisa caplin clothes as well!

  • she is soooooo sexy and still is sexy.

  • Toyah is cult!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A legend!!!

  • This lady is a LEGEND, Rock on Toyah!!!!!!

  • @sgtgrech love you toyah xxxx

  • Toyah, With that little bit of "P.C." you look as great as you did 35 years ago.Good on ya...still love you as allways....Alan..

  • This is one of my favourites, including Danced and The Angel And Me, to name a few...one thing I always wonder is if a video is available from her Warrior Rock tour live at The Hammersmith Odeon. I just wish the cd edition was the same as the double album on vinyl.

Still, Toyah never ceases to be a great Performer!

  • Angel and me is amazing.........

  • unique! what eles can you say about this amazing being. love it x

  • fair play to you toyah.... go for it!!!

  • remember dancing to this great tune in 1980 at Glusburn friday night disco

    great times

    got all the early singles

well done toyah thanx 4 great memories

  • 3:00-3:10 scary! Love it!

  • her dancing style is quite weirdo, but she has a lovely voice.

  • Just thought about Toyah this mornin...

I was huge fan back of this when I was about 12yrs old.

Still have records, prob became a musician because of this.

    Damn you Toyah Wilcox!!!

  • I hadn't heard of this lunatic 3 weeks ago. I've since read 'Diary of a facelift' and some early journalism concerning her. I'm a prog metal musician; but am impressed by Toyah beyond adequate words. My favourite song of the moment.

  • What Toyah was doing was actually far closer to prog metal than the punk that everyone assumed. She even worked with drummer Simon Phillips who had worked with Jeff Beck and who went on to produce and play with Mike Oldfield.

  • Toyah was way beyond her time...................

  • Mate you need to check out some of her albums...Robert fripp (king crimson) is her husband...they collaborated on great album called kneeling at the shrine. Her early stuff is quite cheap..check it out on amazon

  • This song is on the new 2CD set "Good Morning Universe- the very best of Toyah" which is released on the 30th June.

  • Great song from a great lady! Toyah rocks! Visually, she is always stunning...she took the 80's by the balls and ran with it :D Love her!!!

  • Someone gave me a tape with "Ieya" on in it but I have no idea of telling whether it's "Iyea" or "Iyea '82". Can someone please tell me if there's anything I can listen out for or way to tell which version it is?

  • Ieya 82 is generally shorter in length. Also it is far more poppier, whereas the original- 1980 recording- is usually atleast 5-6 mins long and is much more dark and gothic sounding. Hope that helps.

  • Thank you for your reply.

The only problem is I only have the one version so I don't know if it's the '80 darker goth version of the '82 lighter poppier one...

    lol

  • This video here is "Ieya 82", so you can work out which your recording is from that. If it sounds the same its "Ieya 82", if it doesn't then is "Ieya 80". Hope that helps:-)

  • The version I have is between 5 & 6 minutes long so it must be the older goth version. When I listen to this one I can't tell the difference. Maybe I'm just getting old...

    lol

  • Okay, I now have two versions. One is 6:11 long & has more of a guitar backing & one that is 5:08 that has more of a keyboard backing. They are both just called "Ieya" but does it sound like those two different versions to you?

  • Toyah released Ieya twice as a single. In 1980(which was more punky and edgy)and in 1982 (which was a poppier re-recording). However she has re-recorded it several times on later albums. Its hard to tell them apart without hearing them. Good luck with it though! Sorry that I can't be of more help!

  • awesome woman, awesome song,

just the song i'd like to bellow on my way to work in the morning, she scares the panties off my ass every time she does that gorilla-chest-pounding-dance.

    she's hot though...

  • Shouting was a staple in punk music- they all did it! She has matured as a vocalist over the past twenty years and she is now an incredible singer, especially live.

  • Toyah was never punk.

  • I disagree, her early material (1978-1980) was very strongly punk/goth crossover. She was also in the first punk film Jubilee (1977).

  • Toyah started off as Punk..in the 70's before going very 'commercial punk' in the 80's... I really liked Toyah then and it's great going back through all this stuff.. get hold of a copy of jubilee and see just how punk she was

  • I agree. Toyah was never punk but she liked to assume she was.

  • I agree. Toyah was never punk but she liked to assume she was.

  • Do you always repeat yourself?

  • Sometimes yes I do.

  • Sometimes yes I do.

  • Hr best song- not my favoruite version but great all the same. Her energy comes through really well on this video.

  • she is fab, great energy and music,i was in love with her music

  • Have always been a big fan of Ms Wilcox , seen her live 3 times in Glasgow Apollo , magic xxx

  • wow the nostalgia!!! best she ever done.

  • OMG. Toyah's on You-Tube.

    Fantastic! :-)

  • So nice to see this. Her videos were near impossible to find in the 80's here in the states. Nice to see other fans still appreciate her energy!

  • love toyah was gobsmacked to see this video ---didn't know it existed.......fantastic energy ..great song

  • After hearing this I just dug out "The Blue Meaning" LP & "Sheep Farming In Barnet" EP again..cheers..wonderfull stuff

  • Haw quite a rare album of hers live from I think Lafayette Club in Wolverhampton which was released when she was just starting to break into the charts ;think it is a called ' Toyah , Toyah , Toyah ' - contains a good version of this.

She was lovely to talk to too - once spent an afternnon with her and asked her the meaning of this song and she was sufficiently vague about it to retainb it's air of mystery ; according to other sources it is a song that ' just happened '..

  • I did'nt know she had done Video to Ieya.

I had all her single, LP, picture Disc's and had some with her autograph on.

Met her many time a Fantastic Lady.

I have Fantastic memoriers of that period.

  • I wish I hadn't thrown out that book I had where it had a great pic of her with an interview about what it's like to be the only female in a band.

Toyah said it didn't bother her since she's always been abit of a tomboy lol.

  • I love this as well as the original version of course.

    :) <3

  • She was great :-)

  • Sounds like U2 style of music from the 1980's

  • It's great to hear a track like that for the first time these days.

  • saw her at the hammersmith what a night

  • I still got my picci disks. Toyah rocked and is still doable ;)

  • memories :) I had all her pic disks .. wish I'd kept them

  • Still got the LP and never knew there was a video!

  • Good old Toyah always good for a nice pair of boots or a bit of fettish gear or both great video
