I must be missing something. This guy is obviously a good player, I just don't care for any of these pieces. It doesn't sound like something well structured like songs George Lynch, Reb Beach, Yngwie Malmsteen (some), or Joe Satriani have written. I can't say I like his sound either. It sounds like he is just doing every guitar trick on a song rather than playing something thats melodic and sounds good. He is fast and a good player... how about writing something good???

@Kingding6 I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions. Its impressive to watch, but without hooks, to me its something impressive to watch once and never hear it again. I definitely give his playing props, but I am not a fan of his writing at all. Check out some instrumentals like Blue Monday (White Lion), Black Magic (Reb Beach), I Will Remember (George Lynch), Midnight Express (Extreme), Orion or Call Of Khtulu (Metallica), Black Star (Yngwie Malmsteen) or anything by Satch.

@bdybrns20 I would understand where you're coming from I have listened to those bands for years. but thing is, none of all the players and bands you mentioned are in Jazz Fusion at all. songwriting-wise I have never been comparing that area with jazz fusion, they have different 'chemistry' and dynamics and everything else. you're comparing apple to an orange. it's a matter of taste

Frank Gambale, Greg Howe, Brett Garsed, Shawn Lane. These are some other top jazz fusion players

@cgDominic Good response. I'd say you are right on. I don't enjoy any of those players. I learned from some Gambale instructional DVDs but when I tried listening to his tracks they were just awful. I think the general public agrees since his album sales are typically awful also. But he is one hell of a player and I learned sweeping techniques from him.

but one thing I agree is that on his live performances he tends to shred more than what I'd like to hear from him, tends to overplay like in this video.should really listen to the album versions if you havent. imho to me it's one of the most brilliant guitar instrumental albums in terms of songwriting alone
