  • He does 2 version of this song. Like. Both.

  • i fall down on my knees!

  • How is Lou making the ebow-ish sounds on this song? I didn't notice an ebow. Great, great performance!

  • @jhowellkc . din't notice an elbow either..... but i'm glad you like

  • @jhowellkc Well, hate to be disagreeable, but I sense these are knuckle sounds.

  • @jhowellkc it's likely a volume pedal swelling up the volume with each note.. some players manipulate the vol control on the guitar to do it.

  • Great version of a song written by Blind Lemon Jefferson, who used to sing on the streets of the Deep Ellum section of Dallas.

  • well - sounds good to me. Pretty raw which is the way the song should be sung and gives me new respect for Reed. I like the way he draws it out - no hurry - which is old school. Tight band who followed him well and they are having fun. Doesn't get much better than that.

  • Love this song, and I generally like Lou, but to me, this one sounds like he's very out of time - or he's never heard the song and is just reading the lyrics for the first time!

  • @TheChildlikeheart ... i'm glad this stirred your soul.......cool.

  • Fucking brilliant.

  • @molloyxx1 .....of course, you are right....

  • What kind of guitar is that? sounds like a one of them keyboard synthesizer - but hardcore

still pales in comparison to the original... you don't need a rhythm section, one voice, one guitar = great blues

  • hate to barge in but music is about soul and feeling which this has more of under his small fingernail than a legion of dodgy acts (kings of leon and such) i would however put Jack White in the same spiritual league if at the bottom with Reed at the top

  • @dazumaz your welcome to barge in.....and your comment is spot on....

  • @dazumaz Of course the feelings in the eye of the beholder-as they say. I've gotta say I think the Kings of Leon are great. And as for putting artists in spiritual leagues, I think thats dodgy.

  • Maravilhoso isso!!!

  • i love when blues make me fly

  • Thanks to 22clodius for sharing. Very cool and subtle rhythms

  • And a big THANKS too.

  • Me too

  • @NahTe53 ... sometimes two words can say more than a million.....long live denmark........ha ha..... thank you....

  • Most enjoyable.

  • yeh a different song with the same name. really cool though.

  • @eduartito001 hey.. thanks for checkin' out.......have a nice one...

  • Reed & Dylan both got something in common they both can't sing (now),

  • @beeteep60 now.....beauty and sound are both in the eye and the ear of the beholder/listener.......i like both..

  • @beeteep60 agreed, there comes a point where alas, voices become too raspy. I was saddened hearing Bob Dylan's last album. It's very odd when people whose music we love start to fade away... Though i'm really enjoying this song, his voice is still a bit 'there' in parts, when he keeps it soft.

  • awesome!! it's a so refreshing version, nice jam, lou's voice got what exactly i like... Thanks for it!!

  • glad that you like it .. my friend..

  • I love Lou's voice here.. he sounds like he's been hit in the throat right before picking up the guitar, and I love it.

  • i just listened to 3 versions of this- the original, bob dylan's from his debut album, and this. each one is like a different song.

  • dylan's version is good as well.

  • @booglerized f by original you mean blind lemon jefferson? in truth, this is one of those blues songs so old, so many times altered, and credited to so many people it is essentially in the public domain. a song being 'original' in blues is a suspicious title.

  • lou's voice is toast......but the music carries it away. esp that backwards sounding guitar

  • This is a blues played long time ago by Blind Lemon Jefferson. Thanks for posting.

  • @FARANSI95 yes it's a blind lemon song.....but i like what lou does for it ....cheers..

  • dude that guitar sounds so strange...awesome! :O

  • @boritomc glad you like it....

  • This is from the PBS series The Blues,By Martin Scorsese. This particular episode is called 'Soul of a Man', and was done by filmmaker Wim Wenders. I think this was a bonus recording and appeared at the end of the episode as broadcast on t.v. .

  • @mikedo6 yes it is.....go buy the dvd folks.....it's good...

  • I am so taken with this song...Lou is hard down truth...always connects so wonderfully with the word he sings...

Thanks for posting, first time i hear him singing a Blues song...:-)

  • @Mariekesone hey thanks for watching.....cheers

  • Wonderful! Any idea what year this might have been from? (my fave version is still Thelonious Monster)

  • Love this.

BTW, I heard a completely different version of this song from Dream Syndicate (I am talkig about Steve Wynn's syndicate, not John Cale's)

  • i shall check it out...thanks..

  • fu cking great! its really different than bb kings version, thats nice!

    thanks for sharing!

  • glad you liked it my friend ..have a nice day..

  • OMFG!!! what a voice!!! it's perfect!! Lou is a genious! you can fly with this song!! O.o

  • i love this...thank you for checkin' it out...

  • LOU's BLUE's!

  • thank you , lou reed. listening from 1989 in Hortaleza.

  • shadowlily21, what do you know about blues to be makin' judgements like this? Lou Reed does it perfectly, and I don't think ANYONE in blues community would bash his style. Hmmm, think I'll put it out there and ask.

  • amen......

  • @maryannemclaurin it is a mediocre performance (not good or bad). if you think this is "perfect" blues, then you haven't heard much good blues in your lifetime.

  • It's really an wonderful song.

I once read it is te only cover,

    Lou ever did.

  • Beautiful man-made my fucking day!

  • you made my day...by enjoying this......

  • So powerful. Great performance! Thanks for sharing this.

  • yes powerful is good description.....thank you for watching....

  • this is a great version. BB King does a good job of it as well

  • Blind Lemon grave is shining under five stars!

    Absolutely great!

Thanks a lot for post this diamond..

  • yes my friend it sure is a .....DIAMOND..

  • I think the version done on the Harry Smith tribute was a lot better.

  • sometimes a song is done better than the original this is one

  • my god -- amazing beauty, thank you

  • pleased you liked it.....i love it..

  • Do you know when and where this was done?

  • lou was hooked up on drugs since the pre-velvet days. i mean, he wrote a song called HEROIN on the VU debut album. He was well into smack and amphetamines at the time already.

  • I absolutely love the vocal work on this recording. It's so unique and unfathomable. That has to be the reason for the songs brilliance.

  • Well first off I'm a great fan of the blues, and concidering that it is such a small kind of music in only the biggest way ever it is very easy to stray off the path, but thanks to this song my fanatical love for the blues can not cease. It is the best ever cover of the best ever song and I can not get enough of it. I've watched this like at least 25 times, no jokes. May his grave be always kept clean, only to preserve him, the actual golden chain.

  • Continuing on-Lou Reed & his fellow musicians,

using the tools of this electronic age, have

reached deep into themselves & created a

haunting, wondrous recording that is surely one

of the greatest reworkings of a song ever.I

have no doubt that Blind Lemon would be very

pleased. The power of his music stands

undiminished. His grave is being kept clean.

    He will not be forgotten.

  • The meaning of the title of the song is clear. Although he doesn't say it directly,Blind Lemon Jefferson is asking that he not be forgotten after his death. He hoped for what we all hope for, that someone will feel we are worth remembering after we are gone from this world.Blind Lemon died at age 35 in 1929 in Chicago under tragic circumstances. His body was returned to where he came into this world. He is buried in a small cemetery near Wortham, Texas. Please see continuation of this.
  • wow, that's fucking brilliant!!!.......what a great rendition......

    just amazing.........

  • yes my friend.....well said......it isamazing thanks for watching........michael..

  • Damn, this is hot...

  • also cool........

  • Phenomenal!!! You must keep this posted! Wonderful cover of one of the best songs ever.

"Have you ever heard that coffin sound?..." Monsieur Blind Lemon Jefferson, you are ever most appeciated!!!!! Oh... and Lou???...Love you too!

  • i'll keep it here my friend......until my heart stops beating and my hands are cold...

  • Yeah!!! It's back! One of my favorites. Thanks [again]

  • yes it's back......can't keep a good song down......ha ha

  • great post!
