Perhaps, but following that logic guitarists should not play Bach, Albeniz, Granados, Scarlatti,DeFalla or any other Great music not written specifically for the guitar. Additionally, the 8 string gives the range of a Baroque lute without having to deal with tuning 14 courses of strings or learning the dmin tuning, plus I use the extra range for piano transcription.
