You broke my first rule of workshop organization which is never mix tools with stock! I do not mix tools with measuring instruments either. I see you have some general storage solutions but I think you'd be better off if you made yourself some custom holders. Take a tip from a hick chainsaw bar lube is way oil. Also give up WD-40 for PB Blaster its better. If you're in NYC then you're close to Newark NJ you can buy metals there.
great vid.very organized. most of our machines are manual, but we do use a lot of precision stuffs that you also have. i never knew that one particular indicator is called "co-axial"? am i correct? i also have that granite plate very useful inspection tool. id like to have that sort of drawer my dad use to mess things up. pain in the neck. lol. you might want to consider a optical comparator? you seem to do precision works. thanks.
WOW, I thought I was the only one like you!! Nothing beats havin' all ur tools and machines with you in your own place to tinker around with. I would lose my mind without my toys. Have fun man!!
@endlesstime41 It is an expensive, incredibly flat surface. I use them mainly for two things: 1) as a base for a height indicator when measuring parts and 2) I have a dedicated block I use for sanding things which need to be very flat.
You rock dude! I was inconsolable for about a week when my fiancee and I decided to move into an apartment after college and I thought I would have to give up my mill (currently in my research lab). I'm now reconsidering keeping my baby, and making a setup like yours.
Great tour! Man you need a garage. I would go out of my mind not having this stuff set up for on the fly work. You mentioned your in an apartment. What do you use to soundproof the walls? Fume and vapor control? These are some of my challenges.
@nosehitfloor : Nothing. Sound isn't an issue; loudest item is my air compressor, but I found a quiet one. No real fumes either (I use a Trico coolant system...). Thanks for the kind words!
The TAIG manual mill is well under $1,000. If you cannot afford that, I worry that you won't be able to afford the requisite accessories needed to mill - cutters, a vice, etc. But yes, there are cheaper manual mills available from the vendors you mention. Also check out craigslist and eBay.
Sweet set-up! Very organized and clean, just like mine. I hate when people think that a working shop is supposed to look like a hurricane blew through it. My dad used to say that a messy shop is reflective a messy mind and I've found this to be very true. Organized and logically designed shops produce organized and logically designed work, at least that's my opinion....
wow ! that was cool .. how long did it take you to set that up ? and was was the final cost ? adn is your apart ment a 2 bedroom or 1 bed room and you just sleep in the living room
I'm a manual lathe machinist of 11 years -laid off! I specialize in ID - OD shims & metal gaskets of all material types and hardness. Got a job offer? LOL!
Thanks for the kind words. Nope, don't have a drill doctor. Are you a fan?
I can't offer much advice re: your tramming question but there is an abundant amount of information available online. I use a dial test indicator in my spindle and 1-2-3 blocks to measure and a dead-blow hammer to tweak the column.

Got that got that. No Drill Doctor? Thanks for taking time out to make these videos. Excellent. How close can you tram your mill?
I have 9x49 mill and tramming closer than 002 is not easy on this machine. Any suggestions.

You have more stuff in that small space than I have in my 20 x 40 shed. I hope you get to use it all.:-)
It's a great time for machinists because tools have never been cheaper and the quality keeps getting better all the time (unless you buy shit)
Keep it up matey.
