@tennwhitetrash the reason why is because if you are true repair person you know that you need to replace the thermal on the die it makes for a longer fix and stops the ps3 from artifacting in the furture
@texasprankcall My heat plate came off and I have been using AS-5 on the GPU ever since and I have noticed no difference in the amount of time that it takes to get the YLOD again. Usually about a month... Maybe a little longer... I believe the only long term fix for the YLOD is to have the GPU reballed...

Not sure why someone would want to do this. just means that you will have to use more thermal compound when fixing your YLOD PS3...
