Here's my take on Sunroof vs. Moonroof:

In the 80's, American automakers (especially GM and Chrysler) made vehicles with clear glass panels in the roof and called it something clever like "Vista Roof" or something else stupid.

So, a non-movable or removable piece of clear plastic/glass is a SUNROOF.

A sliding glass or metal panel is a MOONROOF.
