@tpir1972 route 439 is officially listed as a north-south route. the east-west signage probably is an older signage dating back to when 439 used to cross the goethals bridge and onto staten island...
@tpir1972 not directly, although if you're traveling south on 1-9 at 278, there is a seperate u-turn ramp that you take to get to get on northbound 1-9 in order to enter 278.
@tpir1972 my guess at first would have been the goethals, but after looking up the numbers, the outerbridge actually carries more traffic (80,000 vs. 75000 per day). this does make sense, because the outerbridge connects directly with more highways in NJ (GSP, Turnpike, 287, etc.), whereas the goethals doesn't connect to anything except the turnpike (b/c I-278 (Union Freeway) was cancelled thru NJ)...
@NewsBabeWatcher yea since drivers have to pay a toll to re-enter NY, its basically saying that if you don't want to leave NY that this is your last chance to exit...
@danbarker39 that is the arthur kill railroad bridge, which carries freight rail traffic between the major new jersey lines and the west shore railroad corridor.
What is the official direct of Route 439, NORTH-SOUTH or EAST WEST, cause some signs it's E-W others N-S, what is it?
