@dolladdictnartist - it's nuts what are parents did to us; the various remedies; and what not.... mine was passed down from my filipino grandpa. too funny! SMileyD
Vick's is poisionous! Read the label. It says DO NOT INGEST. It is a petroleum based product. The topical menthol can be toxic as well with traces of arsenic or cyanide. Don't get me wrong I love Vick's on my chest, back, and feet when I'm sick. My mom did that with us too. It really helps with congestion and coughs. The menthol vapors seem to help break down the mucus in lung tissue. It was always very soothing to me. However, please DON'T EAT THE VICK'S. Try chicken soup w/ rosemary. :)
@Zecer00 The type of vicks my mom use is made from laurel oil which is like vaseline, camphor, aucaliptus oil, and some other menthol oils so is safe to eat. I have eaten the one I bought at the pharmacy, for me is safe. I think is safer than the metal braces that some people put in their mouth... or the mercury fillings which is well know that are poisonous but still fda aproved it. or the vaccination shots which contain mercury too, why? no idea, ppl asked fda about it, they just look away.
My throat and lungs and sinus have acted funny, thought about using the Vicks in the mouth, but Im scared of it, so no way. I have put Vicks on my feet tonight - socks and all, and running the humidifier tonight for bed. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel better. Why does your family call it "Bicks" - accent is from Germany? I love it.
@vjm1234 Thanks for the comment back. Unfortunately the foot one didnt work, the humidifier made me feel more sick - but it only did so because its moist and I was able to finally get out the stuff in my chest. Maybe my Vicks was knock-off brand or just didnt have enough of it on my feet. Dont know, but I DO know the nose one works for the most part!
my best friends moms used to give her a half a teaspoon of vick's when i was in high school i called the number on the jar cause i was curious to ask if this was safe the service rep freaked out and said no it was for external use only...i think it's because of the camphor which is poisonous. my moms did the put on cloth diaper pin it to my clothes then cut on the vaporizer and go to bed routine with me to this day being over heated & sweating at night drives me crazy.
My grandmother used that stuff and also thought it was a cure all. She would rub it on our chest when we had a cold. I couldn't sleep for the smell of it though. LOL You sure you don't have stock in Vick's? LOL Good video. -Jim
There is always a jar of da Bicks...of the Vicks in my medicine cabinet. Seems the simpler the remedy, the better it works! So good to see you and thanks so much for joining in on the fun. Hugs!!
When we were kids 45 years ago my mum always put vic up our noise and chest and we all lived to tell the tell so it must of been harmless lol

The key healing ingredient in Vicks is turpentine (from pine trees).

OMG! I grew up on Vicks, too. My Mama used the remedies you talked about for us kids. I still use them. It's amazing, isn't it, that it works? Lol

I remember Vick's, but putting a chunk of it in your mouth is beyond anything that I had ever heard of... I love your accent from the Pilippines ;0
