Camp Faroe 2011 will most likely be from mid july thru August, this is what i hear from activists planning to come to the faroes. They have spent life savings to buy tickets and to pay for accommidations and such, planning to stay there until the whale hunt stops or untill money runs out, money wich wont be lasting to long since the faroe islands are the most expencive country to live in, in the entire world.

I think everyone is missing the fact that whaling in the Antarctic is ILLEGAL by international law!!! The Japanese are using SCIENCE as an excuse to kill thousands of whales illegally every year. There is no need for that many sample particularly when the animals has to die to provide the sample. Science has very rigorous codes of ethics that dictate what is acceptable and what is not and they passed acceptable a long time ago.

I can't see how it would be necessary to have that many samples of the same kind of whale when you are taking an average anyways. According to the Japan government they killed 740 minke whales (number from the research paper) however the total minke whales that came of the ship were 850... There seems to be some missing.

Camp Faroe 2011 will most likely be from mid july thru August, this is what i hear from activists planning to come to the faroes. They have spent life savings to buy tickets and to pay for accommidations and such, planning to stay there until the whale hunt stops or untill money runs out, money wich wont be lasting to long since the faroe islands are the most expencive country to live in, in the entire world.

I think everyone is missing the fact that whaling in the Antarctic is ILLEGAL by international law!!! The Japanese are using SCIENCE as an excuse to kill thousands of whales illegally every year. If it was just part of their tradition I would be more understanding. But it's not, the majority of Japan doesn't even know it's happening because of media blackouts. And considering the Japan fleet has tried to purposely injure the Sea Shepherds I think they have a reason to fight back.

@Nadeshiko637 I didn't say it was illegal to whale for scientific purposes however when Japan decided to kill that many whales per year they over stepped science. There is no need for that many sample particularly when the animals has to die to provide the sample. Science has very rigorous codes of ethics that dictate what is acceptable and what is not and they passed acceptable a long time ago.
If you read my comment you would see that I don't lie. I say they use science as an EXCUSE.

@Nadeshiko637 The number of whales killed by Japan in 2009 was 1 667 and this number was taken from their data in their research papers. That's a huge number to begin with. I can't see how it would be necessary to have that many samples of the same kind of whale when you are taking an average anyways. According to the Japan government they killed 740 minke whales (number from the research paper) however the total minke whales that came of the ship were 850... There seems to be some missing.

However, you make a good point those flares burn very hot and could be dangerous.
Both sides should show more restraint as a maritime accident down there could be deadly. I can't say I'm disappointed that they suspended the whaling though.

Oh, and if there are people who haven't heard, sea shepherd won. The Japanese whaling fleet has made the decision to leave the southern ocean whale sanctuary because of sea shepherd and they announced they are returning to Japan.

THIS is garbage! I can't believe anyone other than the families of the Japanese butchers, er, whalers would stand for this stuff! I din't know about you people, but I love whales... especially when they haven't done anything to be harvested like the Japanese whalers do. This is is the same thing as clubbing seals to death.
