im buying a 65mm bbk throttle body and have an american muscle brand cai for my 2000 v6. i also have a bama sct tuner ready to go with the tunes that involve the throttle body. what should i expect as far as power gains
@miguelismetro is it an aftermarket one or stock? send me an email or private message for the fastest response. I go through comments every other week or so.
i installed at 65mm on my 2001 v6 and one of the cables connecting to the throttle is too short and wont allow the throttle flap to shut all the way, I know there is an idle screw but the stopper isn't even touching the screw! causing the car to idle at about 2,500 rpm, SOMEONE HELP
@jgpwlcs36 since that specific one is an aftermarket intake, the coupler used is universal between the two throttle bodies. A silicone coupler, as used in the video (the blue connector between upper intake and throttle body), will fit many applications as its not a snug fit itself, it uses a circular fastener to clamp the coupler onto the port. If you watch closely enough, you will see that the coupler is bigger than the original throttle body but fits the new one almost perfectly.
Can someone list some of the basic bolt ons i can pput on my 3.8l v6 mustang without lifting the engine out ? im thinking windstar upper and lower manifolds i already have CAI and am getting bbk 65mm throttle body
i could only find a BBK 56mm TB on AMfor my 1998 V6 will it fit with my no-name CAI? or will i have to go and spend like $200 on a BBK? (The no-name is the $75 one on AM)
@mitch9521 best bet is to call AM's customer support line. If only because they sit right next to the inventory area and can physically check if they don't know!
i just installed this same throttle body but when i finished and started up the car i reved the engine, the rpms either go down real slow or dont come down at all. What could be wrong?
@Zombatron for future reference: if your revs decrease slowly or get stuck, then your throttle cable may be jammed or snagging on something. Double check the reinstallation of the cable.
i install 65mm bbk throttle body and 65mm bbk egr spacer and ecu tuner by the dealership and i put a k&n air filter with new super high performance fuel pump with fuel racing spark wires with ford racing clutch with 2and half inch flowmaster cat back
I know the newer cars are much more sensitive to air flow changes (I am waiting to get a 2011 so I am not as sharp on the S197s). I would recommend a search or call American Muscle and talk to one of their reps. They are helpful. I don't want to pretend I know!
hey man i just got my accufab TB and plenum... and when i installed it . it started making some exhaust (the left one only) noise. my mechanic said cuz since its a bigger TB, i needs to feed more aid. and i need to get a bigger IDLE AIR CONTROL. is this true? or how do i modify it or something?
I didn't do a dyno comparison but you can feel a difference in the sound, throttle response and a little more pull in the higher rpms. I am sure each manufacturer has their claims though.
hopefully you already went through with the install. All throttle bodies are pretty similar. The only ones that require special steps would be electronically controlled throttle bodies like on my 350Z. Thankfully the Mustang is still easy to work on!
i got something to ask you man... will this still be good if i dont have new headers??? like will it still make a difference?? cuz i was gonna buy it but one of my friends said i should get new first????? i dont know what to do???
id go through american muscle to get that or even the 75mm throttle body if your stang is heavily modified. but get the combo kit that comes with the plenum too that will run you around 400 bucks but you will be able to feel the difference
i dont have that much... just to get that throttle body on the video or headers.. so thats why i was asking should i get the headers first or the throttle body first??? i dont know??
well the headers will give you more of a noticeable difference but you will probably be spending a bit more money for them and other parts such as a midpipe etc. not to mention how much of a pain it is to install, if your going for ease of installation with some noticeable power id stick with the throttle body for now
I imagine over the next year we will start to move in that direction. The big push this year was the Maintain Your Mustang DVD series. I'd like to get both the DVDs and the free videos caught up to the 05+ motors. Not sure it will happen before you get yours but I appreciate the comment!
I love these videos, particularly since I'm a beginner in car mechanics. The visual instructions make it easier to understand. I would love to see a video on replacing front headlights.

Heyy anny idea of how much hp gain on a all stock 99 gt with the same bbk intake and the bbk throttle body gray one (78mm)
funny301 1 year ago
bigger throttle bodies are mainly used w/ forced induction vehicles, you wont see gains it's just paperweight.

i dont understand how the upper intake can fit both throttle bodies

@TheZohaun
Bigger throttle body means bigger intake hole, bigger intake hole means more air, more air means more power.

If you have managed to increase airflow THAT much you would need more fuel...but usually the engine computer can compensate to a point.
I would check for leaks from the intake to the engine, loose connectors, etc.

yeah I did, switching it out was simpler than I thought it'd be, especially since it's a drive by wire throttle

is a 75mm throttle body safe to run if you just have a bbk air intake no other mods?
Sk8FalIen 2 years ago
@Sk8FalIen I would probably stick with a 70mm if you aren't running any boost...75 mm may be a little overkill.
