I'm now 36years old and back in 1981 my parents bought it for me and I have played with it a lot and when I got older i kept it in the box and you know what...now I have a son and he is 7years now and we are playing again with my train from my childhood and it works still very good except the rubber tires from the locomotive are almost falling apart and I'm looking for some new ones for a long time now but didn't found it.When somebody knows where I can find it please let me know. thanks...grtz

Hi,

Thanks for the nice video building the Lego 7740 set. I also have this set and since a while I got it running on the new RC train tracks. For the film please watch "Lego 7740 RC". Why I have done that is because with the early 80 train tracks you have to clean every few weeks the middle train tracks and the middle track on the switches ain't working any more after 30 years...

Wait a second. Electric Train Speed Regulator from my 9V lego train (4561) says the output voltage is 9V-12V. Can it be include to 12V tracks in lego trains ?

I think this (7740) and legendary metroliner (4558) are the bests passenger trains lego. If lego release they again and keep them to the end of the world i think is the best decision.

One of my favourite lego train sets, along with the 7715 passenger steam train set. These old sets from the 12V age were the best lego trains. Sadly I never got this IC set when i was a kid.

Thanks - great video! The 7740 has in fact been a benchmark for decades. And it has always been something like a trauma to me. I desired it so much, but it was way to expensive as present (with me being 11 years old and with 3 more kids in the family).

So I hunted for this on flea markets in the mid-90ies and it cost me a fortune until I had a nice copy in good shape and including stickers and printed instruction (bough separately at an auction platform before eBay).

Wow, the older sets look as if Lego put much more thought into it. Although not as flashy or

"aerodynamic" as their modern successors, they have a nostalgic feel to it. Piece by piece, not mold by mold.

I prefer the packaging for LEGO products from the 70's to the early mid 90's when they packaged the LEGO pieces inside boxes that had trays.

The newer ones IMHO look so sloppy being only packaged in separate plastic bags with even a few pieces just shoved in the box after post packaging, really, really sloppy packaging work :c
