They should have let Richard finish what he was trying to say toward the end. I agree with Richard he was not saying anything wrong towards the troops serving but it is true 90% of the men & women go into the service because they can't find a job or don't have the money for collage & they do volunteer for those reasons, & I know they pray not to go over to fight in any of those sandboxes, but when your 18-22 & there's no jobs or money for college what else is there for them to do in their mind
@stormydzs1 where did you get that 90% out of your ass? I think its funny you try to claim Belshiter wasnt saying wrong to the troops. I guess calling them idiots isnt wrong? He is CLEARLY saying since they couldn't get another job they joined up. Im sure a lot joined up because they fucked around in school just as im sure a lot joined up to serve. The point is either way THEY KNOW that joining the MILITARY service you have a chance at serving in a war.
Complete gibberish what that woman is saying. When I was in Iraq, every single person around me, from top to bottom, couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. Any nit-wit could understand how whenever someone from the government or media comes along, we'd give them the same old garbage about honor and doing good and whatnot. Of course we'd have to put up a front for them. You'd have to be pretty naive to actually believe it.
Soldiers may not have anything to do with the politics of the war. But that makes them the best judgement of war. Their caught in the middle. They see what really happens. And for an Actor to ACT like he knows more when he doesn't, is disgraceful. Im against war. But id like to see Mr.Belzer dress in full battle armor and perform the same things are soldiers do before he decides to become judge. He needs to know what fear really feels like. Not from behind a desk, but from behind an M-16.
Well, I can't quite remember if this was referring to Afghanistan or Iraq, but I once heard a military service man call up during a radio discussion regarding people's debate over whether the troops should be over there (and this was around 2001-2003 somewhere) and not only did he say that people SHOULD discuss it so that we're sure...but he also said that sometimes, when HE was over there the soldiers would be together and one would say, "Why are we here?" because they weren't even always sure
He's right, the vast majority of the enlisted men in Iraq and Afghanistan don't have the analytical capabilities or historical knowledge to understand the large-scale causes of those wars. Being on the ground fighting it gives you a certain perspective that others lack, but it isn't one that we should consider being the end-all opinion of the direction an entire country takes in said war.
Belittling the soldiers is unacceptable. Disagreeing about the war is one thing, talking shit about the men and women who serve is hitting below the belt. Saying that they joined the military because they couldn't find employment or get into college is complete horse shit. There were quite a few people that I graduated high school with (honor students) that joined up. Bill Maher is the most arrogant liberal out there. He really gives Democrats a bad name.
lol the only thing goin though my head when Ileana Ros-Hehtinen (ps - WTF kind of name is that) rants on in this is just shaking my head and saying "no, bitch."
Wait a minute... so this scumbag Belzar is saying that the TROOPS have no idea whats going on, but people who READ about the war do???? Are you kidding me?? And the sub-human scumbag Maher says that troops are only in the military because they couldn't find jobs? I'm speechless, I honestly can't believe what I just watched. Bill Maher needs to get that smug little face pounded in by a few vets that lost friends in battle.
Maher ony called him out for ''crossing the line'' when he swore at her, not that his actual point crossed some arbitrary line. He agreed with his actual point.
Belzer got a little wound up, and Maher called him for crossing the line, but IMHO the point that he was obviously trying to make was that opinion polls of the young people in the field can easily be twisted out of context to support views that the servicemen may not actually hold. He's not saying they are stupid, just inexperienced and , yes, often uneducated, and as such are more susceptible to manipulation. He's not dissing the troops - he thinks they've gotten a raw deal.
@chokkan7 I dunno man, when you say they are 19 and 20 year olds who couldn't get a job, so they joined the service, it sounds like a fuckin' diss to me. It sounds to me like he thinks they are not even worthy of shining his shoes.
This is the biggest fucking moron ever! Troops don't know what's going on because they don't read the fucking news paper?! WTF? They're actually there in the field experiencing what's going on first hand. They don't have to read some liberal biased piece of shit paper. Fucking a fucking cunt this guy is.
@apocalypse1280 LMFAO. The troops don't read the news so they don't know what's going on. Someone should tell that idiot that the troops are the ones MAKING THE NEWS! LMFAO.
how do you manage to be a college graduate at 19? wow. what an argument. except that high school ends at 18, college takes four years... BUT HOW DARE THEM DAMN HIPPIES NOT MARCH WIT HOLY UNCLE SAMMMM?
-Stunningly stupid. It doesn't matter if he reads 120 newspapers a day. It's about how you process the information. Also, isn't it about time the left drops its "I respect the troops..." because what seems to always follow that quote is some statement that reveals the lie that it is.
he didnt say he read 20 newspapers a day, and as a democrat, i respect the troops, i think they're wonderfully brave and partriotic. I want them to come home, or at least fight in Afganistan, where the real fight is, against the taliban and Al Queda. There was NO reason to invade Iraq and theres no reason to keep our troops there, its not fair to use their courage and devotion to our country to start another war
Long story short, even if he is right it is not what you say, it is how you say it. The way he stated this in my eyes was tantamount to stating that people only join the military because they are idiots.
People, calm down. I have many friends in the military and yes I do appreciate their help in keeping America safe. Good for them, but Belzer makes a valid point. Just because someone is serving doesn't make them an expert on the war, they do what they are told. Simple as that. Throughout history that the way it has been, and sadly always will be. I agree that people that read about and discuss the war, and not do what they're told by a commanding officer, are more knowledgeable about the war.
Yeah, but by that same respect a 19 year old who sees the front line everyday is no less qualified than an actor (maher and belzer) who only thinks he knows about the world around him, but truly does not. As someone who has been their who also holds a PhD, I would far more trust the insight of a 19 year old private than someone who sits at home, reads 19 newspapers and thinks they no something. I would not trust a surgeon who has only read how to perform an operation.
@farber2 actually he's wrong regarding the intelligence , recent stats show most of the military is now coming from middle class-upper class families with high aptitude test score returns. This guy has the fucking nerve to say ann coulter is repugnant.. wow. Class act.
reading 20 newspapers a day doesn't make you a genius. As a matter of fact, Belzer is a drop-out. The soldiers have a higher GPA than the average for their age. Stupid biased comments by Maher, and Belzer. Soldiers eat sand, they live it, plus, looks like they were wrong, heh? Iraq is down to less than 6 deaths a month. Chicago is at about 19.
Don't bring that "he was a drop-out" bullshit into this. Bill Gates was a drop-out. Richard Branson was a drop-out. Mark Zuckerberg was a drop-out. There is no stat to say they have a higher GPA than the average, and neither Maher or Belzer are fucking biassed. I agree with Belzer that soldiers under fire are not the best people to justify or condemn a war. No one questions their courage, bravery, honor, and dedication. But Belzer was wrong to generalize on such a sensitive issue. While there probably are 19 and 20 yr old kids who couldnt find a job, there are just as many, if not more, of college educated soldiers. The balance is probably the same in the American population. Belzer was obviously wrong in this case.

Yeah and that lady is an excellent example of the typical Right wing nut that is always presenting the straw man argument, "If you're not with what we're doing you're degrading the troops."
Don't make this a right wing vs. left wing thing, because the right isn't any better than the left.
I agree with Belzer that the war was wrong, but anyone who's been to Iraq would know more than anybody here reading news papers, not everything that happens in Iraq is covered because it's a dangerous job to cover the war, and Belzer insulting the troops is just wrong, and I'm a bleeding heart liberal here.
And then he goes on to insult the troops and say they are only in the armed forces because they couldn't get a job?Bullshit. I took a leave from college to join because it's my DUTY as an AMERICAN to serve in the armed forces. What does Belzer do? Play a fake cop on TV. Bravo Belzer. You're a nobody, and you wouldn't last 2 seconds in any branch of the armed forces.
I think that Belzer made some points. Insulting the troops intelligence was over the line, I agree. I have total respect for the men and women in Iraq fighting in the armed forces. I do not, however have ANY respect for the people who run the armed forces.
Please, PLEASE listen again to the audio. Belzer NEVER insulted our troop's intelligence. Every word he said is factual. Re-listen and re-think... So often, in these times, we tend to 'read' into scary truthful facts, somethings which we fear may sound unpatriotic.
Yes ask them. They have a FIRST PERSON POINT OF VIEW. What do you have Belzer? You have what you read in the slanted NYT. You have what you've heard on the slanted NPR. He doesn't know what goes on over there. All that's reported is deaths. Go ask the soldiers. Great things are getting done over there. Schools for Iraqi children are getting built.
like picapeli sez, our soldiers, in this illegal "war", are not 'fighting' in our defense, they are just cannon fodder serving the interests of of petroleum and industrial globalists. Sadly, WE are paying the costs for their business interests, with our blood and treasure.
My cause for condeming this illegal war is heightened logarthimically by the horrible outcome which has sporn vast increases in terrorism, growth of new Taliban terrorist cells in Iraq where they never existed before, the unbelievable cost in deficit spending to support this condemnable action (which btw was supposed to be paid for by 'oil revenue apportionment', ...
...after the Iraqis 'threw candy and flowers at our soldiers'), the dreadful and useless loss of life and limb to both our military personnel AND innocent Iraqi civilians, etc, etc, etc.
You are such a misinformed moron. Just because Belzer is an actor/comedian doesn't mean that he doesn't know what he's talking about. I hate it when people like yourself immediatley throw out credibility based on someone's occupation because that is predjudice and ignorance.
Ignorance? Ahh just like the ignorant statement about how people in the military are morons, etc.
My point about Belzer is completely legit. All he knows is what he reads from slanted news papers and tv shows. People in Iraq know the real story. Some writer sitting in his New York City condo doesn't jack.
You're just as ignorant as he is if you think he has legit points.
Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, son. His points were not only legitimate, they are quite accurate. The problem is with the ignorance and denial of jingos and sychophants who believe that our media are "slanted". If you only knew...
I am not a liberal, but I am against war in all shapes in sizes...
Your coment about Richard's father, dennyindc, is REALLY mean and tactless... There is realy no reason to go that personal... Regarding Hulk Hogan... I have nothing against The Hulkster, but it's really easy to kisk someone's ass if you're a beefy professional wrestler and your opponent is an unsuspecting ubber-skinny comedian... I am sure that Hulk is not proud of what happened, neither shoud you...
Belz, I dont admit to this often but you are absolutely correct on all of your points. I will edit the comments on that clip. perhaps my initial hesitation in posting that comment was my gut telling what I already knew, that what I wrote crossed the line of common decency. I apologize to you and Mr Belzer.
Its nice to have honest dialogue where opinions are respectfully opined and different points of view are not only heard but seriously considered. It seems to me these days that people on both sides are unwilling to even consider opposing points of view, this attitude prevents serious debate. Once again I thank you for your respectfulness and honesty, good luck to you Belz in all of your endeavors.
Me? Politely say "Good evening". I'm not sure Hulk would merit from beating up a girl. And why would he? I merely said that he, as a professional wrestler who respects the rules of the game, probably was not happy that he knocked Richard out, taking all the circumstances into account. It was a "work-related accident" so to speak. I just called him an honest wrestler, so why would he be mad? I am a HUGE Belzer fan, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating the good qualities in other people.
It's "you're" in your intro. Y O U apostrophe R E. Got it, dip-shit? You are stupid, like everyone of your ilk. Nobody wants to see your shitty little videos and read your crap.
The country is in terrible shape, because stupid people have been in control for too long. It's time for the idiots to step aside and let the smart people (like Clinton and his bunch were) take control.
My comments are tactless and lack respect, I know. Your kind deserves no respect, only antipathy (look it up).

I think that Belzer made some points. Insulting the troops intelligence was over the line, I agree. I have total respect for the men and women in Iraq fighting in the armed forces. I do not, however have ANY respect for the people who run the armed forces.
ACDCfreak50 5 years ago
Please, PLEASE listen again to the audio. Belzer NEVER insulted our troop's intelligence. Every word he said is factual. Re-listen and re-think... So often, in these times, we tend to 'read' into scary truthful facts, somethings which we fear may sound unpatriotic.

"That's bullshit ask them"
Yes ask them.

I didn't know a soldiers job was to think.

like picapeli sez, our soldiers, in this illegal "war", are not 'fighting' in our defense, they are just cannon fodder serving the interests of of petroleum and industrial globalists. Sadly, WE are paying the costs for their business interests, with our blood and treasure.
tracer740 4 years ago
"Illegal" "illegal" you're certainly a good little sheep aren't you? WHy don't you worry about ILLEGAL aliens as much as you do about this war??
Alfrunk 4 years ago
I "worry about" everything illegal, Alfrunk,I am a dutiful and patriotic taxpaying citizen of my wonderful nation.
tracer740 4 years ago
Yeah, somehow I doubt all 3 of those claims. Plus, why are you bitching about NOT being repaid? I thought it was blood for oil?
Alfrunk 4 years ago
My cause for condeming this illegal war is heightened logarthimically by the horrible outcome which has sporn vast increases in terrorism, growth of new Taliban terrorist cells in Iraq where they never existed before, the unbelievable cost in deficit spending to support this condemnable action (which btw was supposed to be paid for by 'oil revenue apportionment', ...
tracer740 4 years ago
...after the Iraqis 'threw candy and flowers at our soldiers'), the dreadful and useless loss of life and limb to both our military personnel AND innocent Iraqi civilians, etc, etc, etc.

lol, everyone is acting like an "actor/comedian" actually knows anything of value.
lol, internet

You are such a misinformed moron. Just because Belzer is an actor/comedian doesn't mean that he doesn't know what he's talking about. I hate it when people like yourself immediatley throw out credibility based on someone's occupation because that is predjudice and ignorance.
ACDCfreak50 5 years ago
Ignorance? Ahh just like the ignorant statement about how people in the military are morons, etc.
My point about Belzer is completely legit. All he knows is what he reads from slanted news papers and tv shows. People in Iraq know the real story. Some writer sitting in his New York City condo doesn't jack.
You're just as ignorant as he is if you think he has legit points.
totino 5 years ago
Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, son. His points were not only legitimate, they are quite accurate. The problem is with the ignorance and denial of jingos and sychophants who believe that our media are "slanted". If you only knew...

i agree with belzer, most of them are uneducated..it's what they chose to do

Always a pleasure to be useful... The best of luck to you too :)

Whatcha gonna do, brotha, when the Hulkster comes after you???
jalabi99 5 years ago

True dat! (Sorry for calling you a guy if you are really a girl...hard to tell someone's gender from looking at their username.)

No worries. It's all cool, ma brotha! *thumbs up*

Where are all the liberal comments on this clip?
dennyindc 5 years ago
It's "you're" in your intro. Y O U apostrophe R E. Got it, dip-shit? You are stupid, like everyone of your ilk. Nobody wants to see your shitty little videos and read your crap.
The country is in terrible shape, because stupid people have been in control for too long. It's time for the idiots to step aside and let the smart people (like Clinton and his bunch were) take control.
My comments are tactless and lack respect, I know. Your kind deserves no respect, only antipathy (look it up).
