From an anthropological perspective it contains knowledge of the mythologies that shape the cultural attitudes of those with those religious convictions. But it is not, as many would purport, a catalogue of basic truths about humanity, the universe, or the purpose of either. It is no more reliable in this manner than the hooting dance of an aborigine with a bone in his/her nose.

I read the quran and hadiths and I was horrified. The quran is full of hate and violence. I learned about abrogation and that the earlier, tolerant verses were abrogated...wiped out...by the later hateful verses.

Fasalli li rabbika wanhar
Inna shani-aka huwal abtar"
Translation:
"Verily We have given to you the abundance
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice
Indeed your enemy is the one who is cut off"
Chapter al-Kawthar (The Abundance) is the smallest chapter in the Qur’an consisting of only three lines.

However if the challenge can not be met, even though there are a finite set of literary and linguistic ‘tools’ at their disposal; then the question of authorship has great implications. The Qur’an was revealed approximately 1400 years ago and for this amount of time the challenge has remained.
