  • 400 460 motor ?

  • It's the same as uncle buck's car! :O nice loving the chrome! :D

  • Gosh, this one's wonderful

  • Sweet car, my grandpa owned one when I was a kid, everyone referered to it as "The Tank".

  • That thing is a beaut man. Thanks for keeping her alive, most people just see them as derby cars or a lot of scrap metal. I myself have an 87 LTD 2-door.

  • Amazing! I had the same car and same colors but mine was a 1977. I had the fancy factory chrome wire wheels with the red Mercury symbol in the middle. I like your wheels equally to mine. Awesome memory of my baby! Thanks man!

  • oh shit, now I'm jealous.... that land yacht is sweet... flow masters on dual exhaust and blank out those windows... then throw away those license plates after you get certified copies of your manufacturers certificate of origin, then you won't need plates... if the state won't give it to you, write to ford with an affidavit of ownership... and offer to pay the fee...

  • There aluminum rims with the bolt on center caps.

  • are those like you said forged aluminum wheel covers on top of steel rims? or are they aluminum rims with the bolt on center caps?

  • How long is it from front wheel to rear wheel? I'm about to buy a 78' grand marquis with a 460 in it and it needs tags, inspection, and tires so im goin to tow it home and i have a little car trailor but im not sure if it will fit.

    thanks and please respond.

  • wheelbase is over 121 inches, close to 80 inches wide at about 4700 lbs!

  • @socalltd the 78 full size mercurys were 229 inches long (19ft 1 in), 80 inches wide and were on a 124 inch wheelbase

  • well, not hte same EXACT model, BUT my 77 marquis, was pretty much 19 fet long

  • What a gorgeous beauty. Not really too different than the Town Car Coupe other than some minor back end changes. Really nice car!

  • what other size engines could have come in this car? im about to buy one and they say it has a 460 in it but im not sure. if it is a 460 i am going to pull the motor and rebuild it with forged pistons, blue thunder heads and an edelbrock intake. then im rebuilding the trans. then im going to redo the interior and repaint it black with 4.11 gears in the rear. ill put a video up if ever get it goin the way i want it but it will be awhile.

  • thank for the info. and nice car by the way.

  • VIN's go like this, A=460, S=400M, H=351W/M. the 351M and 400 are the same block just a destroked 400 at 351ci or a 351 Windsor

  • REAL CAR !

  • I use a vinyl floor liquid wax on my top, and on the rear deck lid plastic part that has "MERCURY" spelled out on it. Seems to do a good job protecting it, and keeps its shine!

I had read once that guys use it on their tires before car shows, so I figured, it can't hurt to put it on actual vinyl!

  • Well done, that old beast is in great chape!!!

  • I am the third owner of the car. When i talked to the guy i bought it from, he said that an elderly gentleman had owned the car originally, i liked to know if it had been oiled underneath but i don't know how to check this.

  • @Smellotheclown its still on the road..... that should be a hint

  • Very nice..amazing that a car driven in Canada during the winter, before you got it, had such little rust! Vinyl tops are almost always prolematic if you have the car long enough. :) Jack
