This is the first time I really feel like I wasted time on a video. For all who don't know this is complete bullshit. Hard drive platters don't store data the same as an optical disc. Try playing a video tape on a film projector!
The problem is that this can allow for fingerprints and dust to build up, causing a bad read. The way to clean it is to melt butter and rub on a thin layer before putting it on the drive. Not only does this help clean the disk, but it also helps it spin faster so it doesn't take 4 years for the files to transfer or for you to realize that you just messed up not only your hard drive and any chance of ever getting your files back, but also your dvd drive and half an hour of your time.
This is absolutely awful...that is only going to ruin your HDD even further. I don't know why people would be gullible enough to believe this is a "FIX!" You just exposed your HDD to dust, contaminants and fingerprints! Your HDD is going to crash ten times more often now.
For hard drives over 80 GB you should use a Blu Ray player. If you don't have one in your computer find a Playstation 3 so you can at least view your photo's and videos on TV. I don't use gloves but do use furnature polish or WD 40 to help the disk fit when pushing the door shut and help it to spin faster. Warning- Xbox only shows photos- no videos.
For hard drives over 80 gigabytes be sure to only use a Blu Ray player to read it! If you don't have Blu Ray on your computer find a playstation3 so you can view your files and video on TV.
You may also need to wax the disc with furniture polish to make is spin fast enough to be read in player or use lots of WD 40.
Actually you can purchase a digital eraser to scrub the corrupted files off of the platters. Then the rest of the files will work fine. If data is fragmented, though, it can be kinda tricky since you have to make sure and scrub super carefully. Using binoculars would probably help.
However i am in no way saying that it will work if someone put there hard drive disks in a blu-ray rom it will work. because it will not work. harddrives should never be open because there are no user serviceable parts in them. In fact i can guarantee that data will become corrupt once a drive is open in an uncontrolled environment.
Hey guys sorry about the previous comment, i did some testing an d truth is it only works if u have a blu-ray drive it seems ultra violet light can interpret the electronic binary codes that hard drives use to store information.
If you carve out the center hole from a CD, you can make a ring-shaped adapter that will let you use the laptop platters in slimline/laptop CD-drives!
Nice video total no brainer I would recommend everyone to try it just make sure your dvd rom drive supports dual layer technology. and it has to be above 10x to read
Seeing as how many people are just reading the POSITIVE reviews of this, I think the gig is up. THIS DOES NOT WORK and it WILL RUIN ANY CHANCE OF RECOVERY should you want that data back. If you must try it to find out, try it on a drive that has NO IMPORTANT DATA on it. Or else you'll lose your job, your wife, and your car.
I'm pretty sure you need a DVD+R (not -R) for this to work. plus, blue-ray drives MIGHT work but they don't spin fast enough. I tried it in my CD-ROM but it took like 5 hours for the transfer to complete. I'd highly recommend the DVD at LEAST 24x... i bet blu-ray would be fastest but it might damage your player. Try some sort of lacquer if the platters have grooves in them...
What? Anyone who knows anything about Electronics Engineering knows this doesn't work. Hard drive use magnetic currents to store data. CD drives use reflections of the laser to read data on a disc.
I have mixed feelings about this. In concept, it's funny, but it's posted in the "how to" section, not the "comedy" section.
Currently, I'm trying to recover some data from a hard drive and this video is a waste of my time (as is leaving this comment, granted, but I want to make my point)...
An Irish friend once was told here in the States "Stop signs without white borders are optional." For months, he breezed through stop signs in Washington, DC. Fortunately, he didn't kill anyone.
I work for a professional data recovery company. I can't believe my colleagues never shared this technique with me before this. Who knew it was so easy?
dont listen to this douche bag, putting a Hard drive platter into the CD/DVD drive can cause it to shatter in it & the spiner which spins a CD wont put it up nor spin it
ODD's use lasers to read the data in the pits & lands & the laser bounces off the refletive layer which goes back to the laser diode
HDDs use a head which writes & reads the data on the magnetic infomation
Hey thanks atriker! My 250gb hardrive motor is broken. I'm gonna get it fixed tomorrow and this video has helped me understand how it works, thanks. =]
This jerk is a total A-hole with nothing better to do. Get a life, you imbecile, do you think you're being funny? You're just being stupid. There are actual people out there who have lost important data and they think they'll see helpful info from you. You instead waste several minutes of their life in an idiotic hey-look-at-me-I'm-so-cool waste of time. Stupid, stupid, stupid.....

What a sad life you must have, to spend so much time and effort on something so lame. But then, judging from the obesity of your arms, combined with your obvious mental shallowness, having a date or any kind of sex life or social life is obviously not an alternative way for you to spend your time.
Dear "Susannathom" Sorry to hear that you did not like the video. I however I do appreciate the feedback since that is what makes living in America great.
In America you can pretty much say whatever you want wherever you want to say it.
So encourage you to leave more feedback whether it is negative or positive. My only hope is that you enjoy life as much as I enjoy life.

it would be best off wearing gloves because of static electricity meaning the files on your disk could be corrupted or deleted.
amarillokid123 2 years ago
your right you should were gloves
atriker 2 years ago
If you are stupid enough you would do that, but hard drives store information in a magnetic fashion, not like cds which use lasers.
