This song sounds like it was taken from todays headlines. Proving that nothing has changed much. I do have to admit though I laughed hard at it ROFL:)
I grew up with my Mom's music. The one song I couldn't find on youtube is I saw Esaw! Man, I couldn't even remember this band! So cool that I found it! Thank you for posting all the songs!
OMG, I used to laugh along back in those days. Now it seems kind of creepy, sick and very very sad, as many of these things have come to fruition, even more so the last few years!
@Gardoglee I also got in trouble for singing this at school. Only in my case it was high school and during the Cuban missile crisis. I was called into the dean's office (boarding school) and told to cease and desist. My definitely off-beat sense of humor was NOT appreciated! LOL
Thanks, rainydog, for posting this. It brought back many memories.
@Bobs113 You were right on for singing it when in High School. Often some people are never ready for the truth, even in humor. Song writers, comedians, artists, and poets are usually out front way ahead of the rest of the world. Keep singing and never give up. Thanks for stopping by.
This is great! My folks had this album when I was kid in the 60's. I still have it today. Thank you for this great video. The Kingston Trio live at The Hungry i am I right?
The sad thing is these are all still happening... add "There's earthquakes in Haiti, There's tsunamis in Japan... and we'd have a prophecy in our hands
I grew up singing this around the campfire... everyone thinks I'm crazy, but it's a tradition that I will pass along to my kids. Such a funny, yet timely song. Thanks for creating this!
Great job with the video! My sister and I got the "Hungry I" album for Christmas the year it came out. Of course, I now listen to all the Kingston Trio albums on my iPod, and "Hungry I" is still a huge favorite.
@GeorgiaPat I've transferred mine to my pod, as well, and feel the same way you do. The Kingston Trio are timeless, in much the same way as Sinatra, Presley, and the Beatles, with an appeal that's inter-generational. And, like them, that's why the Kingstons' music will always endure.

I loved it the first time I heard it, even though I was only seven at the time. I then got sent to the principle's office for singing it on the playground at school. The teacher said something about how I didn't like anyone...
@Gardoglee Thanks for stopping by. I think The Merry Minuet is going to be one of those all time songs suitable for every age. I was in the 10 grade when the song was released on one the Kingston Trio albums. I now have it on CD.
@Gardoglee I suggested this song in Glee Club at my elementary school when I was in 6th grade. The teacher, an older, single woman (spinsterish), looked all over for it and finally found the music in downtown Los Angeles somewhere. (We lived about 40 miles east of Los Angeles.) She didn't buy the music but, instead, came back and told me what a horrible song it was and what was I thinking. I thought the song was funny. Probably not appropriate, however, for an elementary grade glee club.
Thank you, rainy dog, great visuals. Amazing 50s laughter on the track.
I was just reading about what a hero Mossadegh was, trying to nationalize Iranian oil, which meant getting it back from what is now BP. And I remembered the line about "strife in Iran", about which I think I knew nothing at the time. Well the removal of Mossadegh was in '53, and five years later we all laughed at the song.
One of the most interesting videos I have watched in a while Bill! I remember so well when the Kingston Trio came out with this tune, only two years after I graduated from high shool. All these years later nothing much has changed! Thanks Bill...good reminder!
I remember the Kinston Trio, but I sure don't remember this song. It is funny how the lyrics actually predicted a lot of the future and it was written 50 years ago! Amazing & funny! Good one bill!
lol I learned this song from my history teacher. This song always gives me a laugh, it is pretty wierd, but this song pretty much told the future lol this song is so funny lolz
It's amazing how as much things change, they stay the same...it's the nature of mankind! Now the Secretary of Homeland Security has a gut feeling that there will be a terrorist attack in the United States this summer. What are we supposed to do? Buy more duct tape at Home Depot?

I first heard this on the Kingston Trio's "Hungry I" LP, in the late 50s. Not much seems to have changed in half a century!

I remember this from1965 or so, but one line they cut was :
"Ane everybody hates the jews".
Not PC today but it was hysterical.
TheJomogogo 1 year ago
@TheJomogogo "And everyone hates the Jews" is from Tom Leher's song "National Brotherhood Week." You can hear it on YouTube.
