I was surprised I didn't have as much trouble with this battle as I did Sarevok in BG1, but I did lose two people along the way and had to transform into the Slayer. Viconia's Skeleton Warriors fortunately took much of the brunt of Irenicus' spells. Those guys really came in handy with their magic resistance.

plus.. i never tried monk as main, is it good? i didnt like the 'no armor' thing :) most of the times i had paladin or druid.

@NaudaOfTheSilverHand Three words: MONK. IS. GREAT. Even thought it cannot use armor, he's/her armor class will raise while he/she levels up. And he doesnt even need weapons, because his fists are deadly. I like calling them FISTS OF RAGE AND POWAH... Hehe. :P

OMGG. I remember this. I was SO ecstatic to have gotten that far (:!! This battle irritated me, I had to reload like maybe 3 times. I was no where near level cap or anything. Had the same party minus Minsc and add Valugar though. I must whip this game back out <3.. Truly amazing.

I remember kicking Irenicus ass and his pet daemons with relative ease. Ironically it was much more difficult for me fighting him in the elf city when we both were 100% alive.

@theoogabear bg2 is amazing, definitely one of the greatest of all time, in fact IGN rated as #2 pc game of all time. Only problem is it does still have an age factor, and shitty win7/vista won't run the higher resolutions w/o mods.

They really should've souped Irenicius up to match your abilities that are added in the Throne Of Bhaal expansion because there's absolutely nothing he can do to match you once that expanisions installed; Dragons Breath just mops the floor with him. In Tales Of The Sword Coast it says "Saervok may not be as you remember him" so it hints he was souped up for that add on but ah well :)

Even now very few game villains compare to Irenicius; that also includes villians in films for that matter. David Warner really brought him to life :) It's so thrilling to think that Irenicius is still a threat to the world of the living if you don't stop him here. BTW David Warner also voices Nergal from the Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy for the first 2 seasons :)

Aaaahhh.. It took me like 3 days to finish this fight. on my first play trough ;) Literally. Three days. Though, in my defense, i was 16 years old at the time, it was my first RPG (if you don't count Diablo), and my English was rather poor at the time (and remains so to this day ;)

I think I had Imoen, Minsc, Jaheira, Anomen and Aerie. My main character was a sorcerer, lvl 14.. Not hard to see why it took me three days to finish the fight, haha ;)

I just finished this game with a Solo Dwarven Fighter/Thief. Quite a long road, but you feel great when Irenicus finally falls for the last time...I hope i didn't just jinx it, i haven't played Throne Of Bhaal yet.

I remember this fight - Did it with myself, Imoen, Minsc, Jan, Valygar (That ranger guy, methinks) and Aeriel (Think that's how you spell her name?). Took me a couple goes - I ended up going avatar and butchering the 4 demons before turning on irenicus himself with all of my guys. It was a kicka ss fight!

Monks are imbalanced, I played the game with one and at some point you just become too strong. Spells do nothing to you, in the Elven city I've sent my monk SOLO Irenicus to avoid damage to my party lol. Worked like a charm.

i beat him with a level 19 fighter half orc.....with my main character only i took out all the balors and the other guys...then went into the slayer and killed irenicus.....but a question does anyone know how to get out of hell without irenicus because i would like to keep playing with my characters. if you no send me a message please.....thanks a bunch

Dragon Age: Origins was supposed to be the spirrituel succesor of this game and it failed...badly....even if the game is really good it not even close to this game

right on man. I mean don't get me wrong, I loved Dragon Age. It was probably the closest any modern RPG came to Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape Torment, but there was just something missing... The bad guys just weren't as compelling as Irenicus, the storyline was just not as tragic and engaging as BG2, and the "final battle" just felt tacked on and cliche. But maybe they can redeem themselves with Dragon Age 2. There's always hope.

Many people believe (and I myself am one of them) that Planescape Torment had the greatest storyline of any of the classic golden-era RPGs. To this day, I still believe that it had the most interesting and complex characters in all of gaming. BG2 is more polished in terms of combat, but Planescape was focused more on story. Get ready to read A LOT. There's way more text to read than in BG. Definitely try to find it. Try scrounging the bargain bins at Best Buy or order from gamestop online.

No, not fully leveled characters. They're only two or three levels each over the SoA limit, so there's not much difference between what they would have been without ToB installed.

Irinus (ie. me) just has his fists (+3 weapons as he's a monk), Imoen has the Gesen Short Bow, Minsc has the Silver Sword, Jaheira has a scimitar of some kind, Viconia has the Flail of Ages and I just had Edwin chuck Melf's Minute Meteors at people. Summons are also useful spells here, to distract Irenicus.
