Just want to make a quick comment about TPDL. I started to read it after I saw one of his readers on Oprah in 05, and on the 7th chapter he tells you to say a prayer that I repeated but had no effect, so I kept reading and on the 23rd ch I surrendered my whole life to Jesus, I met the Lord Jesus Christ when I emptied myself and allowed Him to fill me with Himself. So the moral of this story is: it's God's word that changes us and convicts us....thank God for the Bible.

I started attending Saddleback about 1 year ago. Yes I will agree that its not a negative message, looking up the messages in my Bible in reviewing the weekly message I can find no mis-quotes or direction or elimination of fact. I gave my life to the lord, and the bible is my corner stone,I came to the lord because Saddleback pointed me in the correct direction. I do find it interesting however that the people you find fault must be free of all sin, since they cast the first stones.

You are exactly right. You must accept Jesus as your savior AND follow the teachings in the Bible. If anything, scripture declares itself to be incomplete(john 21:25), unable to contain all the goodness, actions, and endless resources at His disposal. If we are looking for the WHOLE of God's truth, we wont find it from any man, which is why we are instructed NOT to follow man. But even a small amount of truth, when used by the Spirit, can lead someone to Salavation. Are you prepared to judge who has "enough" truth and who does not? Certainly neither of us qualify. I look to the SPIRIT first, then to Scripture. The Spirit can function without scripture (as in: the absence of the printed word), but scripture cannot function without the Spirit.

This is a great video. I started to purchase THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE on many occasions, but I now think I was prevented by God to do so because of it's deception that I know see is even seeping into my church. My aunt eventually sent me a copy after raving about it. I plan to read it one day, just so when someone asks me about it, I won't have to give my critique based on hearsay, but I can tell them from my own opinion why I know it is deceptive.
