I have known and loved the louisiana people for many years. Actually married to one 20 yrs...only recently the term Coon-Ass was explained to me....early cajun people were fond of wearing coon-skin hats. people unfamiliar with cajun culture would say Hey You Know You have a Coons Ass on your head ? Huh ?

This was told to me in all sincerity as truth -- Not a Joke....and makes perfect sense...

@domc1804 it is calleda crawfish boat..specially made for crawfishing in crawfish ponds..all it is, is a a horizontal shaft enginge around a 20 hp..connected to hydroaluics that makes the wheel turn..yes there are almost always homemade i live in abbeville louisiana and i see these every day and i hope this helped

A coon ass is someone from Louisiana to us in Mississippi. I think people from Louisiana call the cajuns "coon asses" We in Mississippi just think it means all people from Southeast Louisiana.
