  • Honestly makes me shiver. He is completely impeccable: and looking quite youthful and strapping.

  • che voceeeeeeeeeee grande di stefano!!!!

  • G. Di Stefano with his glorious voice perfectly suited for the role, his "jeune premier" look and charm is the perfect predator Duc de Mantoue. Well, I understand Gilda...

This video shows how good actor he was also.

  • His voice is so full of power! .. But I have to admit it was modern video games like GTA liberty city storie that brought me hear ;)

  • I'm in love.

  • Grandioso, inigualable...

  • The tone, line & diction is incredible! But, some parts R just way too open:( This is why when he tackled roles such as Radames, Calaf & even Cavaradossi his voice began 2 take its toll:( I believe he could have sung those roles if he only handled his passagio. I agree w/del Monaco in saying that he's Italy's greatest lyric tenor after Gigli:) I 100% agree that he had THE most gorgeous Tenor voice of all. Listen 2 his legendary early recordings from Switzerland! No 1 sings the Manon aria better!

  • again and again... what a character, what a musician, what a tone..

  • una interpretazione mirabile. Lei Maestro Di Stefano è nell'Olimpo dei grandi!

  • Great! Not transposed and much better than Tucker!

  • I definitely think this is a playback on his Scala 55 recording with Callas

Diccion perfecta gracias tambien a esa "voz abierta".

Saludos.

  • Great! Great! Great! The best of the best Tenors!

  • grandissimo, io sonu turco. incantevole musica. voce meravigliosa...

  • Yes! Amazing control. As far as the similairities of the two melodies, I agree with some others. It seems a litle more than inspiration that "Santa Lucia" and "Le donne e mobile" are sooo much alike.

  • la voz mas hermosa de los tenores :)

  • b natural is a little pushed. But the voice is a dream in quality and timbre.

  • definitivamente me encanta fantastico :)

  • My favorite singer for all time

  • In opera, you must call this "heaven." In his prime, and in his element -- powerful, emotional lyric arias -- DiStefano was as close to perfect as a man can get. I hate to use the word "effortless", but does he ever appear to be straining??? Bravo.

  • The early DiStefano was great. Later in his carriere he sounds more and more out of condition

  • this is SUPERB!

  • Probably the most popular song of the 19th Century, and I have always contended that Verdi ripped off the melody from "Santa Lucia." Think about it...

  • There is some similarity, but I don't think he ripped the melody..Might have been an inspiration though. Interesting thought. :)

  • 1:55 Wow. That is fantastic

  • No-one sings that opening phrase quite as well as he did.

  • Justo but then he had immaculate diction in Verdi and Puccini, especially if the libretto was 'a Boïto'

  • What a magnificent voice he had in his prime! This is delicious! I love how he could turn down the volume in his voice, amazing!

  • Listen for the prominent overtones on F# and G#! The A# is always a little flat in his voice, then the ringing high B! Never heard a singer with such harmonics.

  • To TrovadorManrique:

Is singing and music to you overall, pure technique, nothing else?No enthusiasmo, heart, intepretation etc, none of these?

  • Does anyone know if he had any problems with his voice during his career? He certainly had a beautiful bright sound and was a wonderful singer.

  • Acting, voice, naturall sounds, pianissimo, singing aperto, it"s all in this video on highest level it can possibly be. True art

  • seeing acting in opera is so comforting!

  • Fantastic. He is like nothing normal.

There is no one like di Stefano out there now, or if there is, he is well hidden.

What it must have been, to see him live at this time!

  • semplicemente : divino!!!

  • On a cadence has very strongly lowered

  • it's his own style

  • Ignorants, always making comparisons. All tenors are greats. That's all. Btw this performance is nice.

  • What does he do with his voice at 2:21?!!!

  • Smorzature is called, take a note in forte and take it pianissimo

  • Maybe at 1:51 - 1:53... At 2:21, he is simply spending his voice.

  • Is singing and music, overall pure technique, nothing else?

  • @Liwah in other words linguistic olympics...just some showing off crap..very common BTW...Wink bitches its a joke OK?

  • That diminuendo is extraordinary!! BRAVO di Stefano!

  • Una vocce d óro

  • Im taking a music class in college and we are studying differant types of music...honeslty at first this would not be my first thing I would listen to but I really like it...like I can actaully understnad the theme behind the story..Opera is wonderful once you give it a chance and i am really happy that I got to learn about him and many others!!!!

  • To be quite honest, if I were Gilda, I'd die more readily for di Stefano than for Pav.!

  • Riposa in pace,grandissimo Pippo.

  • Today is a sad day for opera and music, we have lost our beloved "pippo" the greatest Tenor in the 20th century, and the most beutifull tenor voice ever heard. God must have needed a songbird in heaven. may he rest in peace. his voice will live forever.

  • Pippo

Thank you for the memories, you will never be forgotten.

    Karen xx

  • Rest in peace Pippo!!!! Say hello to Enrico, Jussi, Mario, Hypolito, Lauritz, Beniamino, Maria, Giacomo, Gina, Aureliano, Giovanni, George, Ninon, Tito, and so many of your friends. Well, sing together and heaven will be yours!!!

    Hans NL

  • BRAVI!,Ce bello!

  • Mai sentita COSI!GRANDISSIMO!Voce sfogata, tutta fuori, grande, technica sulla PAROLA ITALIANA. DI STEFANO CASO PARTICOLARE E UNICO!!

  • Anni 40/50, aria a lui congeniale = Di Stefano insuperabile...

  • Oh Pippo, when will we see the like of you again!!

  • it's really between him and MDM- They were the greatest ever!

  • he makes it look so easy!

  • Y? lo hizo y feu el mejor. Celoso?

  • Wonderful..one of the best ever..

  • Singing from the soul! The maestro

  • DI STEFANO:the best and most beautiful tenor to have ever existed

  • Bravo Pippo! What year is this from? Thanks for posting these clips with Di Stefano.

  • Fantástico!

  • Thank you, thank you! Pippo is incredible.

  • @ 1:52 he shows amazing control of his instrument. I know how hard it is to bring yourself back to a Piano from a controlled loud Forte.

  • I so much agree with you. That's a miracle diminuendo!
