  • This song is amazing...somewhat has that Nosferatu feeling to it.

  • great band! thumbs up from Hungary!

  • A truly gothic band. Type O Negative is gothic metal, something that doesn't have much to do with the original gothic movement, which came from punk rock.

As a singer called Voltaire said (he has written many books on the subject), punk rock's philosophy is in the lines of "the world is bad and I feel angry about it", the original gothic is "the world is band and I feel sad about it". Gothic metal has an entirely different philosophy, though it has roots on the goth movement too.

  • @EddyScbr God I'm tired of hering shit on every fucking video. YES WE KNOW TYPE O NEGATIVE IS NOT A GOTH BAND FOR FUCK SAKES WE GET IT!! Why can't you fucking assholes every go on a Death Rock or Post punk video and talk about what is goth instead of whats not goth? I'm tired of these gay comments about how much Metal is not goth or this industrial band is not goth. Want you guys have a hard time telling what is goth and his not?

  • SLNLive, you r right, this band has the SOM'soul... somebody have to continue their music... I like this song and Necromanteion too.. thanx for posting... Saludos desde Uruguay...

  • XD i am so glad i survived through not knowing this song's name :)

  • this band is amazing..reminds me so much of fields of N. I have fallen in love this band just now..simply amazing

  • WTF is these? another of those germans cheap fusions between sisters of mercy with the mission uk and some Lacrimosa crying bitches??

  • This music was never gothic. It was darkwave or post-punk.

  • nice

  • Love it! Definitely working the Sisters/Nephilim vibe.

  • but u know what your just mad that the past is gone and the scene better and more enjoyable but the new Christian Death suck u have to get with times

  • @666deathghost - Then you are a complete and utter moron. Yes, Goths listen to the classics. Great music like that does not cease to be good because of age. In fact, it gets better. You also assume that we don't listen to anything recorded after the 80s. Perhaps before you call those of us who've been in this culture as long as we have, those of us who've kept this culture alive, poseurs, you should know more about us and what we listen to. Now, go back to Granny's basement, troll.

  • @DarthVil Your FUCKING OLD ok Your decaded and worn out this is the future and posers don't keep this genre running if they don't listen 2 ze music idiot. This is the future if shit that u old timers keep playing the same over and over again, This scene will be be Dead and the new Christian Death sound is gay and terrible let bands that can't keep up with the times die so new one can be born.

  • @666deathghost - *I* don't listen to the music? I'm not the abrasive child who listens to metal, thinks it's part of this genre, and then tries to shout down anyone who knows what they're talking about. I'm going to guess you're what, in 7th grade? Maybe I'm being generous.

If you knew anything about this culture, you'd know that what has kept it alive is the very music that you mock. If you like metal, fine, but don't try to shove that crap down our throats.

  • I will give you some credit. Christian Death, since the departure of Valor, does seriously suck.

Neither have I once suggested that music doesn't evolve, but there is a connection to roots, and then there is music that is completely unrelated, such as metal. It has its place, but not in this subculture.

There are a ton of really good Gothic rock, Deathrock, and Darkwave bands out there who are quite "with the times".

What you fail to grasp, being a child, is that good music remains good.

  • Given your complete lack of decorum, your utter disrespect for the entire history behind the culture, and of course, the music, without which the rest would be meaningless, I'm flabbergasted that you take yourself seriously. Ah well. One day, you'll either figure it out and stop being such an obnoxious little miscreant, or you'll go find something else, hopefully more suited to your tastes. Good luck with that.

  • @DarthVil 666deathghost knows nothing about all the different eras of goth music from the the late 70's-80's-90's and current times. He don't have discernment of post-punk,deathrock,gothrock,and darkwave.

  • @666deathghost The scene has been abused for many years now by outsiders of the subcultural and with the commercialization of the subcultural through some outlets like hot topic has tainted the scene. Many now and days deny the label Goth with the replacement of death rockers. Only way someone can be part of a subcultural is actually listening to the music and not throwing "I am goth" around. Living a subcult. is different than saying you are part of one

  • @DarthVil U still failed u on scene and u say u been in the scene 4 15 years but u still failed the whole concerpt of the whole sacene the oviously stuck in the 80's boy as far as i concerned your a poser i don't care how long u was into the scene that doesn't mean shit matter or fact all u posers do is listen 2 then same thing over and over with no sence of what music is

  • plus some of u say that metal is trying 2 be gothic well let me tell u something 2 them when they was making gothic metal they did not try 2 be in the gothic scene as far as they're concerned "Gothic" is a term ok when someone mention the term gothic they're not always talkin about the scene they can probally be just be describing something

  • Well the Goth scene don't make goth rock any more instead due to the scene evolving gothic Metal is the arternative for goth rock right for what i'm hering but that doesn't make all gothic metal bands offical 2 goth the scene. And most of u old schoolers would say bad shit about metal well its their elements thats makes our music more extremer darker and even more enjoyable like how we enjoy the old school goth bands

  • I kind of like this... I think I'll check out more... :) Many thanks for this one!!!

  • Wow... a video where no one is talking about Evanescence, Him or Manson... awesome. Only legit bands mentioned, for the most part.

Great band, too. 5 stars. Replaying.

  • @withindarkness Fuck Evanescance fuck Manson ok? Evanescence is a broke down loesy "Symphonic Metal" band thats not even metal and Manson is some kind of freak that dress in women drags and H.I.M is considered "Love Metal"

  • @666deathghost

I was showing my delightful surprise that no one was talking about those bands, like on so many other legit goth videos.

I was saying it's a good thing they weren't being discussed.

  • i know hoe gothic metal was made and i understand gothic metal is not part of the gothic scene some gothic bands do gothic metal but the goth scene should start doing gothic metal to make gothic metal offically gothic u know and goths should listen 2 some depressing doom metal it's dark and depressing like this band Shape of despair: Fragile emptiness

  • Christian Death's singer sounds hilarious. still a fan but HOLY SHIT he makes me laugh.

  • @GothChilde6969 which one, valor or rozz

  • @thaares

whoever sang the original CD version of Romeo's Distress

  • I personally think of myself as a metalhead, but gothic rock isn't really bad either.

Actually, when I first heard it I thought of it as some strange king of normal rock. :D

  • me to. im home schooled so i dont see any goths

  • cool i live in illinois and i am the only one who enjoys all the genres of metal.

  • @hotbasterd im from illinois and enjoy all kinds of metal especially goth and epic metal. *high five*

  • @hotbasterd oh and industrial \m/ -,- \m/

  • To tell you the truth there not even metalheads i'll describe them to you theres one that listens to.. Scremo another that listens to metal rave and shit like that no goth but theres another one who listens to Biffy Clyro witch is basiclly rock they all used to listen to metal but now they've moved on and i feel like a dick cause i think i'm the only that it's like a lifestyle for me for them it was just a faze.

  • this rocks i was a goth since i was born this song rocks

  • Gothic metal and gothic rock are completely unrelated. If they've used elements of both, they've only manged to water down two completely unrelated genres of music in the name of record sales.

Don't fault yourself for being young. :) A little bit of research, listening, and learning can be fun.

  • thanks to gothic metal, finding the real goth music and knowing what the gothic culture is became almost impossible...

the ignorance about this is ridiculous

  • look to your PM box

  • There is a lot of fantastic Gothic rock that is great for dancing, same with darkwave, post-punk, and deathrock. Know your music and you should have no problem finding good, danceable tracks. Don't sell out to this disco crap under the farce that it's more important to fill a dance floor. It's the same sad excuse that many use to play thump thump and attract the muggle masses who then ruin the clubs all together.

  • Well, Andrew Eldritch is a snot, and frankly, the quality of the performance of the Sisters of Mercy at their shows is such that I'd rather watch snails mate. I still love the music, but Andrew needs to a. make new material, b. take the stick out of his ass, and c. return to good showmanship at his concerts.

As for the Cure, they are a pop band, but they are also a MAJOR influence on Gothic rock and our culture as a whole. Also, at least Robert Smith isn't an ass about his view, while Andy is.

  • I listen to the Cure im sure their Goth it's under their genre but maybe they are under pop as well

  • :) A lot of things can be posted under genre for a band's listing, and many people will say that the Cure are Goth. They're a great band, but they're really a pop band who had a tremendous influence upon the formative years of Goth. They can never be discounted for their contribution to the music and the culture that it birthed, but it would be incorrect to say that the Cure are a Goth band.

Check out Xmal Deutschland, Skeletal Family, the March Violets, and the Virgin Prunes; good classics.

  • Listen to Faith or Pornography. Tell me they're not goth albums. I dare you.

  • I really like this band since recently finding them. That said though, their frontman (don't know these people's names yet) does over-Eldritch. I'm not so fond of the tendency a lot of Goth musicians have to sing in Eldritch's style. That said, it's still really good, and I like what I'm hearing.

  • Exactly. Trying to dance say... a Cure track can be a bit messed up, or boring. Been there, done that.

  • yes. you are NOT the only one who is sick of Disco pandering itself into goth clubs. To quote Matt Riser of Fear Cult. Leave the Disco in the Disco clubs!(EBM)

  • Well said.

  • Wait... So I'm not the only one who is completely sick of the EBM?

  • Hell no, you're not! Proper Goths everywhere are sick and tired of our clubs being opened to the droves of muggles and their shitty music that make failed attempts to belong to something of which they have no part and no business trying to be a part of. This culture and music has existed for over 30 years (read carefully, babybats and poseurs who don't get the point, 3 full decades) without kowtowing to the imbecilic masses. There's no reason to start now, and it needs to end.

  • Well thank you. I'm seventeen and I'm probably one of the few people my age that knows what real goth is.

I'm so sick of all these kids my age calling themselves goths but listening to EBM and industrial (not that there's anything wrong with industrial, it's just not goth).

  • You are young... it's great to show an interest in real Goth rock, but Industrial and Goth are very closely entwined :)

You don't wanna confine yourself to just Goth just because Industrial is different to it. I can see anyone who loves their Industrial dance, Skinny Puppy, Test Dept. (or EBM: Nitzer Ebb, Front 242 etc.) listening to Sisters of Mercy, Alien Sex Fiend etc.

  • I knew was Goth really was when I was twelve. I am fourteen now, and still listening to bands such as The Sisters Of Mercy, Killing Joke, Skeletal Family, Switchblade Symphony, Miranda Sex Garden, Eat Your Make-Up (A newer Gothic Rock/Deathrock band), Christian Death, and etc. =).

  • @NRRRDLemur14 lol

  • I'm 14 the only real Goth in my area i'm forced to cling to the Metalhead group in my school no one around my area listens to goth and the nearest club is in Glasgow and it only plays Metal Rock Emo and Scremo i can't fucking wait till i can leave school and the fights and bullying stop

  • Believe Me, this time in your life will pass by quickly. Stay true to yourself and don't let the other kids keep you down. Most importantly, cling to yourself. If you hang around people, find a better reason than "having a crowd". It'll only do you harm to be co-dependent upon any single group. Good luck, and fear not, it gets easier from here.

  • they will never stop we must fight back

  • I never had any bully at school myself, but I did learn to follow my own interests.

As an idea, I found out about UK Goth from the 80s when I was 14, starting with The Fields of the Nephilim. I then found out about the massive Goth scene in Germany and never looked back!

They have the culture for Goth over there, so check it out.

Good luck and enjoy your music ;)

  • So you moved to Germany? i think the language barrier might mess that up for me lol but ye i know goth is a big thing over there.

  • o.o... wtf..

  • i think this is a gd song.....

  • Reminds me alittle of The WAKE.

  • Very good to hear people making goth with that classic flavour. And doing it SO well!

  • exactly. im sick of EBM and the like. this group is GREAT

  • amazing song!

  • Pretty damn good

  • excuse me if i'm wrong, but isn't this guy the vocalist from the Fields of the Nephillim?,just asking, let me know

  • Sort of. And that's not a good thing (i.e. Carl McCoy sucks).

  • McCoy does NOT suck!

  • No, but they have a similar style. More like McCoy meets Eldritch

  • No, this is Seth Artaud, where the Nephs singer is Carl McCoy, but he is influenced by the particular Nephilim style, that's why they sound a bit the same

  • this is sick

  • esa cancion es genial!!1, desde siempre me ha gustado XD!!

  • i want to find the lyrics to this song where can i do that??????

  • Love these guys, really excellent sound!

  • Well, is Garden of Delight real Gothic? I want to study lyrics of various music styles, to create my own style, blending a lot of alternative styles, but I need to know if GOD(well chosen name...) is real Goth Rock. Thanks in advance ;)

  • Garden of Delight is what you call Gothic Rock.

Gothic Rock is more or less the original Goth with some hard rock influence. It is generally associated with the second goth movement, like Romantic, Trad, Victorian etc. etc.

Some other Gothic Rock bands are the Sisters of Mercy and Nosferatu for example

If you want the full goth experience start with Bauhaus and move from there.

  • Well, that's something that I can use ;)

I've tried many times, but every time the only thing is discusiion about what real Goth Rock is...

  • The last thing that we need is some muggle taking our music and trying to combine it into the teaming masses of mindless drivel available in the mainstream. All that it does is cheapen our music and equally dilute the quality of the other musical art forms that you appreciate.

  • Sounds like Fields of the Nephilim meets Sisters of Mercy... I like.

  • Really SoMish, I love it.

  • lol no Aiden is pop rock.

  • Actually Aiedn was Post-hardcore. They have one pop-punk like album but they apparently went back to their old hardcore punk style.

  • meant to say Aiden

  • Absolutely not.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • This sounds more like origonal goth tunes to me...>Type O Negative anyone? P.S. Fuck anyone that mentions Cradle of Filth like they're gods of metal

  • Type O Negative is doom meta :P

  • Type O negative mocks goths.

  • I dono man....people say Siouxsie & the Banshees were goth & my mom used to listen to them...Type O Negative are a little laughable at time...but look at the modern 'goth' scene...Fuckin Dimmu Borgir...Cradle...Dethklock : P A lot of it is a joke, you just need a sence of humour

  • The bands you mentioned aren't the modern Goth scene, thats Metal. You might notice Metal doesn't sound anything like Siouxsie And The Banshees. Modern Goth is Cinema Strange, Frank The Baptist, Eat Your Make-Up, Elusive, Bloody Dead & Sexy, The Cemetary Girlz,...

  • Type O is not a Goth band. They're metal.

This actually doesn't sound like original Goth. Try second wave era Goth, and it's very good. It's got a very strong Sisters and Fields influence to it.

Oh, and it might be more productive to talk about metal bands on threads that are relating to metal videos. Garden of Delight are a Goth band. Metal is an entirely different genre, regardless of what a bunch of despondent metal hooligans desperate to fit in think. We're not a clearing-house for rabble

  • goth metal is a growing thing right now.

    lots of that.

  • Yea that could be the next big style Goth Metal i bet they'd have ripped vests and shit like that

  • but some of there songs are goth influence not many bands are goth any more just goth influence

  • I cringe every time someone says "goth influence". They usually mean some little emo snot band, on account of bad hair and pale makeup, or they mean any type of music that is somehow "dark", but they don't get that various unrelated things can be dark and just compete to be the darkest. RARELY do they mean musically, and in those rare circumstances, I'm torn. Part of Me says that inspiration is fine, and part of Me says, oh boy, someone else is trying to further bastardize our culture to make $.

  • no idea what ya said but ok. ive been into the goth movement since it came out in 79 it was huge in the 80s but it actualy came out in 79, imo goth has changed alot all through the 80s it was the doom scene AKA death rockers then 90s it become like loveing goth witch is like victorian style and now in 21 centry its like cyber goth now

  • I like dark wave of the 80;s....I cant fit in with the cyber and victorian peoples..

  • I only like the old 80's goth bands.I agree with you.

  • @DarthVil Type o is Doom metal, which was started by two sabbath songs, into the void and black sabbath.

  • @lordjdog Yes, and that falls under the umbrella of metal, and as such, is more sensibly discussed on a more relevant thread, one having to do with metal, or, perhaps I'm crazy thinking this way, on some thread associated with a Type-O video, and not Garden of Delight.

  • @DarthVil Hey u leave Type o Negative out of this cause oviously u don't have any clue what goth rock sound like ok I don't care what u say about the other gothic metal bands such as Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Mortal Love, Night Wish, Tristania, Draconian or theatres of tragedy because far as i concerned there not a gothic band thats part of the goth scene they don't sound gothic

  • @666deathghost Excuse Me? I've been in this culture for 15 years now. I know a lot more about it than some internet teen with a poor grasp of grammar.

I don't care how angry you get, and you obviously got pissed off over My simply telling the truth as it is. You're confusing subcultures and the music that makes them. It doesn't matter how many angst-filled metalheads wake up and decide that they're Goths even though they don't listen to Goth music, or listen to very little, it changes nothing.

  • @666deathghost No your the moron for not thinking that. Gothic metal was influeneced by doom metal and gothic rock and no I didn't get it from wikipedia its common fucking sense plus I know my music been playing music all my life. If it has the word goth in it it's goth you dumb ass thats like saying thrash ain't thrash yet thrash is in the name. If it ain't related to goth then goth wouldn't be in the name and you say I'm a newb ha. Your nothing but a dick in the booty poser ass nigga. FAIL!

  • Yeah this message was sent to me by a fellow metalhead that don't know his metal genres but yet he's an elitist that been in the scene since he was in his teens lol

  • @DarthVil But Type O Negative is part of the gothic scene even if its metal thank u very much matter of fact the vocals sounds like Jyrki69 vocals from the 69 Eyes and BTW its not about what genre the music or the band came from its what the lyrics discussed and how its played and what way its play and BTW Fields of the Nephilim do Gothic Metal ok thats offical Gothic metal is not just metal any more gothic metal is part of the scene except certain bands

  • @666deathghost Bands changing format doesn't open some sort of back door and make metal a valid part of Goth culture and music. It means that specific bands are going into different things. As for Type-O, they're not "part of the gothic scene". I don't care how many poseurs and metalheads insist otherwise.

  • @DarthVil Your right...alot of these kids today don't know that info. They don't listen to Corpus Delicti, death Cult, and other Gothrock/deathrock bands.I feel the 90's were the last era of the music.

  • @oramikleepunk I have to politely disagree to some extent. The 90's were not the end of said music. There are a lot of fantastic bands out today.

I'll spare you the laundry list, but to name a couple, I would check out Sleep Slid iN, which you can find right here on YouTube, Frank the Baptist, and Eat Your Makeup.

Honestly, if anything, Goth is getting EXACTLY what we want it to: a decrease in popularity. Let all of the focus go to the vulture cultures, and we'll keep our roots. :)

  • @DarthVil The music had nothing to do with popularity....it was about a underground non mainstream subculture.People outside of America that are still into the music look down at what is going on in America.

  • @oramikleepunk - Pardon My lack of clarity. I was not suggesting that it was important that the music be popular, or that it's about popularity. My statement, with regards to popularity, was that any lack thereof is a good thing both for the music and the culture.

If I might inquire, so that I have a point of reference of what you're talking about, and not assumptions, what specifically is it about what is going on in America upon which others are looking down?

  • @DarthVil I like the old Goth rock than most Gothic "Metal" bands anyway don't get me wrong. But u can't start calling something poser just because its not from the scene or its mainstrean this has nothing 2 do with mainstream and yeah you was right on 1 note Gothic Metal is "Metal". Don't get me wqrong I do listen 2 some gothic Metal bands but just because something has the title "Gothic" doesn't mean its from the Gothic scene.

  • @DarthVil Sorry,I misunderstood you.I have been to the Wave-Gotik-treffen and the Drop Dead Festival outside of America.Goth is a deep subculture there in Europe and mostly in Germany. When I went to the Wave Gotik Treffen eventlast year, some people there would poke fun at the Americans Hijacking or not having a understanding of the new and old music and subculture.

  • @DarthVil This is the future ok things evolve and build and build. Now when you said that ya'll don't listen 2 anything recorded after the 80's well your wrong some do.

  • @666deathghost Try going to the subculture in europe at events like Wave Gotik Treffen and the Drop Dead Festival...the people there and the bands there would disagree with you. Those events are mecca.

  • Comment removed

  • @DarthVil True but they did use some goth elements in their early work.

  • @DarthVil Listen to Angizia.

  • @DarthVil

Thanks... yeah. Gothic Rock has always, and will always, be derived from Punk Rock.

  • @DarthVil Dude, who cares?! They could call Type O 'hip hop' for all I care. If a song or a band is good - then it's good. If it sucks, it sucks. Fuck genres.

  • @DarthVil I agree. But regardless of that, I do not believe that bands such as Type O Negative are "metal". Iron Maiden is metal. Judas Priest is metal. I am a Goth. I listen to Cinema Strange, Christian Death, Sisters of Mercy, Fields Of Nephlim, etc. I also do listen to Gothic/Doom Metal, influenced by the bands I just listed. Am I a poser for listening to what is over-all, dark music? I think you are, though. for making "goth" another religion. Just like Christianity.

  • Great stuff!, but they are more like 'Love like Blood' and 'The Sister's' than the almighty FOTN.

  • the living legend

  • One of their best..Saw them live a week ago here in Greece... They rule!!!

  • good song song. garden of delight fore ever

  • I thing that is more like Fields of Nephilim then Sisters of Mercy, but ok...

  • *I think that is more like Fields of Nephilim than Sisters of Mercy, but ok...

    xD

  • exelente banda ojala mantengan la calidad

  • lástima carnal,la banda ya fué

  • <3<3<3

  • LOVE IT <3
