For me it was necessary 5-6 yeaa, anyway now I 've been practising yoga for 10 years every day.
Of course the time you need to increase elasticity depends by your age,your health ,your intensity in training and by the kind of training.
The heart of hatha-yoga is to work with energy and chakra and meditation and your body.You can get a good elasticity,it helps of course, but it's not necessary
