1. Japan has the most unfair immigration rules and even violates human rights. They FORCE you to change your name or else you are not entitled to citizenship. They are one of the racist Asian countries, but they are subtle in their racism. That is why this man changed his last name, so he had a chance to be accepted. Not because he was ashamed of being Korean.
2. Japan occupied Korea and forced Koreans to fight their fights because they were losing the war. And yet they still discriminated.
@ksungjin10 3. Japanese soldiers were known for their sadism. They were worse than the SS in terms of brutality. THEIR acts were barbaric. Their soldiers skewered the babies of their enemies and waved them. Raped young(9-25) AND OLD women(60-80).
4. The Japanese had a shit fuck system for their soldiers. They told their soldiers that they must not die unless they killed ten Americans. This made Japanese soldiers do Bold yet stupid acts made them short on veteran soldiers.
@ksungjin10 The Japanese are known for their double standards. Any Korean immigrant that has done something wrong they will call them Korean and disown them and claim that they are not Japanese. However and Korean-Japanese known for success they will call the Japanese and Japanese only(I.e. Akiyama, Oyama, Hotei and so on.
@memyself2k The Movie is Korean and the Martial Art is Kyokushin Karate it originated in japan and it means '' Society of the Ultimate Truth Karate" in Japanese
@asadal123 Oyama is so ashamed to be associated with disgusting monkeys like Koreans; therefore, he used Japanese name and considered himself to be Japanese.
His use of Japanese last name Oyama shows that he was not fond of Korean monkeys and their established practice of self-genocide.
Korean monkeys massacred TEN MILLION fellow Korean monkeys during the last half of 20th century alone. What sane person wants to be associated with Korean monkeys?
@myrtedecorsica i agree, one of the most inpirational martial arts movie, especially the part where he goes t the mountians and start training like crazy.. just wow
Oyama Sosai studied Goju Ryu under Yamaguchi Sensei and Shotokan under Funakoshi Soshisha himself. That is why Kyokushin has Naha Te kata and Shuri Te kata. Oyama Sosai taught Yasuhiro Shichinohe Shihan( 7th Degree Black Belt Kyokushin Union) who taught E.B. McAnally who teaches Ho Oo Ryu. I hope the movie is as true to his life and the time period in which he lived his live. Osu
Masutatsu Oyama (Young I. Choi) was a Japanese National but was born in 1923 in a small village of Wa-Ryongi Yong-Chi Myonchul Na Da what is today South Korea (the Korean Peninsula was a part of the Japanese Empire from 1910-1945). Mr. Oyama trained in some Chinese martial arts when he was very young but he did not train in Tae Kwon Do (General Hi created Tae Kwon Do in 1955). *see part II
thank you for the krn credit LOL finally someone that aint ignorant, thinkin he is Jap. well it can be confusing since he changed his name to Japanese and moved to Japan lol.
@amsablan its a korean made movie about a korean master training in the mountains to kill and beat every japanese. That guy also invented kyokushinkai.
if you need movies to watch, perhaps check my favourites on my channel playlists - i will be adding more. I've got about 500 movies listed and to be added. Mostly martial arts.
for those of you who loves badass martial art films, check out some of the older ones: Legend of the wolf, Mahjong dragon or more recent ones such as, Dragon tiger gate, Fatal move, legendary assassin, fatal contact. and ong bak 2. Enjoy...
sheez, thanks for all those. Just hope my source has any of these movies. Would you might know where to get any of these movies if they are hard to find?
Someone told me to watch this movie and Ip Man, both movies were fucking great!! On the other hand, he also recommended Shinjuku Incident and Kill Zone. Both of them licked balls. Boring and lame. Anybody on here have any serious recommendation on another great martial art movie??
I respect your comments and i thank you for the recommendation. I'll check it out for sure. If the fight your talking about is the one in the skinny alley with the dude with the sword....yep, that was a crazy fight.
Regardless which nationality he is, does this truely matter? I see a man surpass his own difficulty against all odds and in solitude , contemplation ... he found himself again to reach a new height of mountain's peak as all men should find themselves. A great inspiration to the human spirit.
Does it matter??/ Well when you're born at a time when being Korean meant you were persecuted and your cultural and ethnic identity was being suppressed and trashed and you name yourself 倍達 which literally means "korean", I would tend to think it matters. History and narrative of a person's experience is something that needs to be understood and recognized.
Mas Oyama, was a karate master who founded Kyokushinkai, arguably the first and most influential style of full contact karate. He was born Choi Yeong-eui (최영의; 崔永宜), but preferred to be called Choi Bae-dal (최배달; 崔倍達) indicate his Korean ethnicity Zainichi Korean, he spent most of his life living in Japan and eventually became a Japanese citizen while also retaining his Korean citizenship
Haven't seen this movie. But the best movie made about Mas Oyama that I've seen is Sonny Chiba's Karate Bullfighter. The plot of this movie sounds very similar to that one, and I suppose both movies follow close to the Oyama's lore. So if you like Oyama, watch Karate Bullfighter and its sequels. Sonny Chiba rocks.
that movie its so s´tupid. Oyama Masutatsu was binr in Korea, then he came to Japan and learned Shotokan with Funakoshi (this does not appear) am not sure but I doubt the supposed "master" from korea really existed, and I pretty sure nobody was killed with a Tachi. Warning: this movie its just korean garbage, the fights are pretty cool but the story its fake, nonsense and GARBAGE.
at the age of nine he learned korean martial arts from a man who was working on a farm this is were he learned takkyeon a traditional korean martial art at the age of 15 he inlisted in the japanese army hoping to be a fighter pilot also were he picked up boxing prize fighting for a short while then he learned shotokan and various other martial arts and so on so on
true, not all of it is real, but go look it up, and it'll tell you the history of this movie. surely the person is real, and he did go around japan beating masters from all over. and who are you to be calling this korean garbage?
It is based on the Japanese comic book Karate Baka Ichidai. The story was taken from a JAPANESE MANGA. So Nei Chu was the Korean who trained Oyama in Goju Ryu and he is not shown either. So Nei Chu wooped Funakoshi's sons ass.
I thought the plot was a lot like Jet Li's 'Fearless' which portrayed Huo Yuajina, who was a true master. Not taking anything away from the spirit of Choi Bae-dal another poetic genius on which i look up too for help on my Chosen Art.
As a young man in Japan he was a brawler - got in a lot of scrapes and associated with gangs.
He was given a book - a semi-fictional account (kind of like this movie) of Miyamoto Musashi while imprisoned for striking an officer.
He related to the Musashi character and was inspired to devote his life to Karate. It was at this point that he went to the mountains to train - the mountain he chose was the same mountain that the real Miyamoto Musashi went to to develop his own style of swordsmanship.

The actor who portrayed the Oyama like character was both ugly and not a true martial art expert. The production team should have been careful in picking a proper lead for the role. At least the movie made more sense then Chiba's Karate Bullfighter.
Not at all Oyama gave purposely didn't give up his Korean citizenship and died technically as a dual citizen. His legal documents are still available in his birth provincial office in South Korea. Also his Japanese name 倍達 literally means Korean.

This movie shows how Karate is like, just like Ong Bak showed how Muay Boran was like.
