I have to agree with the top comment. Americans don't know about symphonic metal, and that's a damn tragedy. Discovering all these bands was almost like becoming a teenager again. I love this music with a passion bordering on the obsessive. Delain, Within Temptation, After Forever, Epica, Liquid Sky, Gwyllion. Our ONLY real contribution to the genre is Evanescence and, despite what some people might say, Amy Lee deserves inclusion. I love it all.
@Saje3D I know what you mean I just found out about a lot of these bands only a month or two ago and haven't stopped listening since. We need this on the radio not Justin Beiber crap
@Saje3D I know what you mean, but you are wrong sir when you say Evanescence is Symphonic Metal. Evanescence is NOT symphonic metal, sure it may sound similar, but it is not. The Genres to Evanescence is: Alternative Metal, Nu Metal, Hard Rock, Gothic Rock. Evanescence are those genres, NOT Symphonic Metal, it's a shame that people think that Evanescence is Symphonic Metal. People need to look up the genres of Evanescence, by doing so, you will not see anything Symphonic Metal related.
I just got the Lucidity album for Christmas and I love it! There are a couple of songs that are good, but I usually skip to the next song on the CD because it has the "growling," which I can't stand, but the album as a whole is great.
I may live in Australia but I feel the music that is commercially available here are just as bad in the U.S (no hate or disrespect). But I do thoroughly love European bands like Delain, Within Temptation and Epica.
im from the states and i hate nickleback, im into the heavy stuff, disturbed, cradle of filth, and mushroom head, but nightwish, delain, within temptation, and lacuna coil are fucking awesome
its just the best music, i love it, i listen to lots of this kinda music. i like it, my family dont listen to rap, i convinced them to listen to this and now they ont listen anoher kind of music.
so i thank the one who had discoverd this kind of music.
I find it sad: you see all these metal heads from school or elsewhere, and your talking to them about bands and whatnot, and they ask you what do you listen too, and you reply: "Symphonic Metal", and their response most of the time is: "What's Symphonic Metal?"...Some metal fan they are right? they don't even know what such a great genre this is. America is behind on the music industry. My all time favorite bands are heard everywhere in Europe, but here in America nobody has a clue.
@Snowburden I ask about Dark Moor, they do not know. I tell them about Symphony X, they give me a blank stare. I praise Sonata Arctica, they ask me who that is. As an experiment, I mention Nightwish, and they jump on it. At least it's a start.
@Snowburden That's nothing! Where I come from, (south Africa) when I say symphonic metal, they say, "wtf you satan worshiper go sacrifice a cat to the devil you depressed fuck go slit your wrists"
Saw a concert of them in may this year... In Hamburg, Germany ind a rather small club named Knust. I have to say that they awesome...even live. Charlotte is a very, let's say "cute" xD, person and the whole concert was really good. It's a shame that there aren't more bands like this one.
When will this style of music catch on in America? This music is far better than any of the rock put out here in the United States. I find it sad when I talk to my friends who have no intrest in even giving Symphonitic metal a chance. They'd rather listen to Nickleback or country. BTW Nightwish rules!!! Charlotte is hot as hell!!!!!
@weilbody I'm from the U.S. and the first time I had ever heard any kind of Symphonic Metal band was Nightwish's song "Memories." I was hooked after that. I love Delain, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil and different songs from Krypteria, Unsun, and others. People will ask me what kind of music I like and I tell them Symphonic Metal and they will ask me what that is and I'll tell them. They usually will say, "Oh, I'll have to check that out," but I don't think they do. It's their loss.
@fanof762 yea Europe in general has more metal bands period reguardless of the genre, but yea big fan of symphonic metal myself even the new nightwish though i do admit its more poppy
@Ironchefxingba The one thing that I can not stand is the metal with the growling vocals. Don't like that at all. That's what I like about Symphonic Metal is there they don't do that (or not a lot). I know there are songs that have the growling vocals, but it's not like the music here in America. I'll take the Symphonic Metal anytime. I absolutely LOVE the violins and other instruments like that with the guitars. Just a great sound together.
@fanof762 I know it's annoying, but I just wanted to tell you that Nightwish never have written a song called, "Memories". It's a song by Within Temptation. Good story, though ( : Sad that your american friends have bad taste and don't wanna hear symphonic fucking beautyful metal! lml
Same for me, I've 'turned' as many of my friends to this kind of music as I could. It's the only way we're gonna get folks in the US to listen to this and with this venue it's easy. They don't have to shell out any money to try it.
My first hit in this genre was Lacuna Coil. Stumbled on them and was like 0-0 Never looked back. Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Xandria, Sirenia, Epica and one or two Unsun. I keep hoping this will break here in The States one day!
@RedTSquared I have 4 of Within Temptations CD's (got them for Christmas last year). Their latest on "The Unforgiving," I actually found at Walmart. I was shocked to see that had it in stores and it was $10. I bought right then and there. Love it.
I love Unsun's song "Home." That is my favorite song of theirs. My favorite song from Epica is "White Waters." I'm hoping that I'll be able to see Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil and Delain in concert someday.
@umki55es Within Temptation is awesome live, I saw them two years back. :) Delain would be interesting to see, especially since the band was formed by Within Temptation's keyboardist Martijn Westerholt.
@weilbody I agree with you except that as a huge Symphonic metal fan myself, and a european btw, I also enjoy Nickleback 'cos Chad has such a manly voice. In the US you have Kamelot, have you heard about them? I'd recommend Centre of the Universe. Yeah, what I wanna say is the problem isn't Nickleback but Gaga, Kesha and the likes.... They make American music suck!! And may I add, that I do listen to American country 'redneck' music, somehow I find it very authentic! lol
@weilbody This is quite a step away from Symphonic metal (I honestly don't hear anything symphonic in this song). Delain is mostly a melodic metal band. However I totally agree with you on the lack of this kind of music in the States, or in any other English speaking parts of the world for that matter.
@weilbody. Thanks for all the replies on my post!!! Guess I struck a nerve somewhere with us Yanks who love this stuff. I must say rock is dying in America, the crap they play on the radio here is pretty awful. Although I do like a little Nickleback I've been over them for about 3 years now:) I have widened my genre bands by a few. Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, Lacuna Coil, Leave's Eyes, Krypteria and of course Delain.
(Cont'd) I finding differences though in this Genre. It seems like the bands in Northern Europe have more of an Orchestral sounds, while the Southern European bands have a sort of electronic synthisized (spelling) feel to them. (IE Lacuna Coil is Italian and blends with an electronic sound, while Within Tempation is Dutch and sound more Orchestral) Anyway just a thought, I could be mistaken. Loving all this genre though.
@weilbody you're absolutely right. Either way they sound amazing, way better than american rock... Have u heard Elysion? a great Greek rock band with a southern electronic touch like you said, 100% recommended.
@weilbody As a prisoner of my family in texas this music took me quick. First of its kind i heard was from Nightwish then i couldn't get enough. Speaking just for my surroundings; they don't try it because it is new. Its not something they hear casually and they refuse to see kit out or pay attention as it is presented. Know why country is so big here? Because its the only thing on the radio aside from a pop station and a dying classic rock station.
@weilbody And another thing is i don't know a person, my friends in Alabama, Marryland, and Washington know no one, and aside from the singers themselves i don't think anyone likes nickleback. The last two of those people are broadly social people. They cross and intersect social groups with dozens of communities with little issue.
@weilbody-I listen to everything. I love Evanescence, so it's has me looking for more bands like this. We I listen to lastFm, all these songs pop up. I'm always up for new music, so any other bands you think I should check out let me know. I like Lacuna Coil already and I'm checking out Within Temptation and We Are the Fallen.
@NottyGurlStyle look for Nightwish if you haven't already. the original vocalist for Nightwish also has some solo work, her name is Tarja Turunen. some other good bands are Sirenia, Epica, Blackmore's Night and Leaves' Eyes. :)
@NottyGurlStyle. As CT said below, check out Nightwish, especially 'Century Child' and the 'Once' album. They will break you in nicely and set you up for some of there older and newer stuff. They are pretty much refered to as the kings of Syphonic Metal, you will love them. Now their newer stuff is "Dark Passion Play' and their new album 'Imaginerum' are with a new lead singer (long story, lots of drama). Tarja Turunen is Nightwish's old lead and has some good solo stuff.

Best symphonic metal band since Nightwish gotta love symphonic metal these bands make miley cyrus look like the sucky piece of crap she is she got nothin on Nightwish and Delain nor does Lady GaGa Gag me Symphonic bands have some of the best female vocalists ever along with gothic rock/metal bands of course long live symphonic metal!!!!! \m/
@funnyman173391 HAHA they can't shred! Steve Vai should hire her 2 sing on his stuff, & he would sell a LOT more =) It's a shame when the right parts from different bands don't get together 2 form a superior supergroup =( Everybody E-Mail Vai & Delain & make them collab =D Or some other guitarist who can actually play. Another sad loss of potential is the song 'bad boyfriend' by Garbage - cries out 4 a rad solo (even a krappy solo would work), but nothing...
I swear with all the great synphonic/metal bands out there I'll never be able to keep up with them all. Nightwish, After Forever and Revamp, Within Temptation, Epica(to name a few) and now Delain....Oh well someone has to do the "hard jobs".
So...you comment on dislikes, then look foolish the second ONE more dislike happens..How about, Pay more attention to the SONG, than the dislike button, thumbs up whore
I just sent apx. 80 links of your songs to random Facebook members... mostly metal heads and female members.... I think they will love your music. I want this sound to take over every other style... This is it!
@Infidelamsterdam oh yeah i saw them too here in México last year, awesome! and by the way i recomend you to listen Arkan, it's a melodic death metal band, they''re from France i think but they have like arabic influence in the music. I think it's you could like it. Cheers
@Hanshroch Delain and Within Temptation aren't doom, alternative, nor experimental, they're symphonic/goth. Your argument has failed. Comparing these two bands to The Gathering is like comparing Blink 182 to Linkin Park. A better comparison would be Nightwish, Nemesea, Epica, or even stretch it to include bands like Krypteria...The Gathering, however, does NOT belong in this category. Don't bother replying, I won't answer.
I hate shorter versions! Guitar solo in this song is absolutely genious and they dare to cut it in half!

Soo much potential for an awesome shred solo! What happened?
funnyman173391 7 months ago
@funnyman173391 HAHA they can't shred! Steve Vai should hire her 2 sing on his stuff, & he would sell a LOT more =) It's a shame when the right parts from different bands don't get together 2 form a superior supergroup =( Everybody E-Mail Vai & Delain & make them collab =D Or some other guitarist who can actually play. Another sad loss of potential is the song 'bad boyfriend' by Garbage - cries out 4 a rad solo (even a krappy solo would work), but nothing...

Nightwish went mainstream and changed their name lol

@trousersnake91 there's so much fucking wrong with that i don't know where to start
snowmovies 6 months ago
@snowmovies they sounds like a mainstream-ier Nightwish lol. not my fault. just an observation
trousersnake91 6 months ago
@trousersnake91 Is there anything more mainstream than Nightwish? This band kicks Nightwish's ass in every single aspect.
czdatka 6 months ago
@czdatka as far as Symphonic Metal, not really... but these guys give some serious competition. btw Nightwish had one popular song lol
trousersnake91 6 months ago
@czdatka Agree! Nightwish ended the second they got rid of Tarja!

Bad music and video too.
Delain and Within Temptation are too much pop. In comparison Gathering is more doom, alternative and experimental, Gathering is better band!

Hanshroch 10 months ago
@Hanshroch Delain and Within Temptation aren't doom, alternative, nor experimental, they're symphonic/goth. Your argument has failed. Comparing these two bands to The Gathering is like comparing Blink 182 to Linkin Park. A better comparison would be Nightwish, Nemesea, Epica, or even stretch it to include bands like Krypteria...The Gathering, however, does NOT belong in this category. Don't bother replying, I won't answer.
