Mospeada was not one of the three Super DImension series sponsored by Big West, but rather the third to be adapted into Robotech by Harmony Gold. The other Super Dimension series was titled Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross.
And Harmony Gold just makes itself way too easy to hate for all the shit they have poured over Macross.
Kawamori didn't direct it, he CO-directed it. And I'd be willing to bet that any scene executed with even a modicum of tact or flair wasn't done by him. The man is a horrible hack when it comes to writing and directing. Escaflowne is an enjoyable trainwreck, and Arjuna is just awful and preachy. And don't forgot the pointless clusterfuck that is Macross Frontier. Everyone else involved with Macross went on to better things, Kawamori seems to have gotten control simply by being the only one left.
Still don't like the "climax" Oji-san, the mere impression that song was meant to both represent a far-gone ancient, wise race, and endure the test of time, instead of just being a microcosm of the few short years of the 80's from once it spawn, makes me do nothing but roll my eyes.
The movie itself though, makes me laugh, as it EXISTS as a film in the Macross universe, which means its either the most cunning piece of breaking the 4th wall ever made, or a meta-commentary on biographical films.
I remember playing Battletech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception as a kid and thinking the Robot that could change between a humanoid and a jet was really cool and unique. The joke was on me when I found out later that it was plagiarized from Macross.
Needs a BluRay release like no other. It's probably the last big 80s film to not get one, even the GE999 movies and Five Star Stories got that treatment.
And I doubt it has A-ko's problem of no original masters.
Good Review, After hearing the English Dub, I think I would stick to the Japanese Dub. I mean that English Dub makes the dub for "X:The Movie" sound more dignified.

Gumpy Jii-san, thanks for always reporting highly knowledgeable. Who can evaluate the various works are far too rare in Japan.

If you look closely a one of the missile attacks in the final battle you'll notice one of the missiles is actually a Budweiser beer can.
