If you tell yourself that you'll never have your favorite food ever again it will cause those cravings. See Paul McKenna "I can make you thin". It is a mental issue. To get past this you can imagine eating that crispy cream donut off the floor of a hair salon. Hold the thought until it makes you gag. Repeat if you crave it again.
I'm on the same path that you are on. In fact, I think you are a little bit ahead of me :)
The organic, In one of Victoria Boutenko's books there is a chart that shows the difference nutrient wise, or organic food verses non and it is an incredible difference! I buy organic when I have the option but not when I can't find it... this is just what I do. :) My whole foods Market is about the same distance as yours so I'm really looking forward to the farmer's markets this summer!
Don`t know where you live, and most of the year it`s not a complete soltution, but where I live there is a lot of wild stuff to supplement. You can just start simple with some dandelion and red clover tops maybe? Also. I don`t know if you do seaweeds, but you can get lots of great stuff for really cheap.
I don't know either, that is why Roger Haeske will coach me soon. You should go to his website and meet bloggers like you. It is not about raw, it is about health. You will set the benefits! My husband is doing this low fat 80/10/10 Dr. Graham. for a year now and he came in 48th overall in NYC marathon this past Sun. He feels awsome and recovers wonderfully!
I noticed too that I eat bad when I am around my friends so i have to avoid them.
Seaweed makes me disgusted, I can just smell the ocean in it seriously. I m fr the Caribbean so when I was little I use to go to the beach a lot and when swimming the ocean water would get into my mouth or nose and I feel that everytime I try to eat seaweed
im not raw yet, but i plan on switching over in the next couple weeks. I wanted to read a few books on it before i did so i could do it the right way. You made a great point about going to the store... Let me know how thats going for you or if you found an easier way.... I am going to be in that same boat :(
I'm a "Healthy Mag" junkie.I pick them up from the stores every month (free).Ideally it should all be organic. But there r certain foods that you absolutely should get organic and others that you can buy regular. Its based on how much they're fertilized. strawberries, peaches, spinach are heavy on pesticides. They should be bought organic. Onions, garlic, avocado's (can't remember all)(less delicate foods),were ok to eat regular.Check online, but If I can find the article I will post the lists.
i've heard that Evert Fresh bags (i think thats the name of them) helps keep your produce fresher longer. Also, what the Nutritionbynatalie "Whats the deal with organic?" videos (there are two parts). It will give you a good description of organic produce.
Big props to you sister. I just want to say that a donut or a burger every few months will not kill you or make you unhealthy, so it's okay to take a day off from time to time and eat the bad foods. Are we conditioned like you said? Hell yeah we are. Through commercials and subliminal messages we are made to think that bad is good and good is bad, the big corporations pay A LOT of money to put that crap into our minds just for their profit and it works.I really admire you for sticking with it :)
Every few months? That's be great. But what about every few days :P
crunchcrunchcrunch of potato chips, crunchy french fries all around me. come come they (everyone else) gets to eat them and I don't? It's just not fair.
hey - What do you typically eat during the day? I'm trying to lose around 5 pounds and can't seem to do it while being 90% raw. And how do you deal with the pressures of alcohol and your friends? That's my biggest challenge. Thanks so much for what you're doing - huge help! And I wouldn't worry too much about the organic issue...I'm a college student and I know how expensive it is! good luck!
No, they're not really required. A lot of raw foodists just take natural green powder supplements, which have "superfoods" in them such a spirulina, for added nutrition. We're just trying to be as healthy as we can be!
I just do what I can when it comes to eating organic. It's not feasible for me to buy all organic produce every time I shop. I just do what I can and it's much better than the way I used to eat.
Hey, I've moved. I can relate to the difficulties you're having, that's why I went back to cooked and calorie counting. I want to encourage you to keep staying raw. Your skin looks so smooth!
Oh I just remembered something else. I don't know much about it, since I have not yet done it myself, but I you can go to your local farmers market. Supposedly you can strike a deal for him, and he'll grow stuff specifically for you and bring it into town.
I'm kind of in the same boat with you as far as resources go. Some things I've started do to kind of help me is I've started to plant my own little garden of produce. I also try to buy things in bulk, like nuts...ect. I'm vegan, currently trying to go raw and am having a rough start. Hopefully I'll get as far as you, you're doing great. Hope this helped....
Organic I think is way better than conventional. I only researched enough to convince myself of it, but from what I read you avoid pesticides, pollutants, you get more nutrients, you get a better taste, and you also help out the environment more since the organic farmer isn't dumping poison into the soil.
Let me just start out by saying, fantastic makeup....on the organic thing, I agree it is a difficult transition, from being unavailable or being mega bucks....still, it seems to be worth it, I find it smells better and tastes better. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't have bugspray on it! ;)
thanks! i know you're right about organic. i'm just going to have to really reevaluate my budget and i'm going to have to look for local farms or something err.. i really hope i can work it out.
hey there, i just wanted to say i'm going through a similar issue as far as budgeting in the organic produce- even though i have a few stores ten minutes away, they're all still really straining my resources- i'm shooting for 75% raw right now but i have a 3 month old nursing infant so it is really hard
