Nice gun,I had a single shot 12ga. sawed off to only 11in.of barrel with a pistol grip this dummy I knew made it that way and of course it was illegal and he said to me I'm only going to shoot this in the woods once and then throw it into a canal to never be seen again,so we went way out to the woods and the only loads he had were 000,that was a kick like I've never had before and at 10 ft. it had about a 15in. spread,no wonder the sawed off short shotgun is so illegal pure devastation.
It hurts cause you were stiff through your grip arm. It may feel awkward vut swith your arm posture and square those shoulders. Also eat a hamvurger cause thats a lot of gun for a real skinny guy.
After some serious thought I wish to retract my comments below. Or at least modify them to say that if you can handle the recoil, it matters not what Smith and Wesson or the Pope has to say about it.... this gun will do some serious damage if you can find a good self defense round for it. I would be afraid, I think, of serious over-penetration before expansion using a hunting round that's meant to go through serious hide first.

This gun may be intended for hunting; but as a self defence piece it is also outstanding in terms of accuracy and impact to be sure. "You don't stand a chance against a semi-auto".... nonsense. Based on personal experience and FBI reports I have begun to drop my 9mm squirt guns except for exceptional carry situations and am sticking to .45ACP mostly. They really are not all that much more cumbersome. THIS gun on the other hand takes some serious work to carry concealed but not impossible.
Is it just me, or did it look like the recoil wasn't bad at all? C'mon, man up, don't lock your arms with a revolver, it'll help cushion the recoil. Love the .460S&W, one of my dream guns, would much rather have this than the .500

I do understand that black bears here are a less aggressive but i know a man that lives in the Sunlight Basin area of montana that has taken down multiple grizzlies with a .357 maginum in his 85 years... But i would rather have a .44 maginum or a .454 Casull for grizzlies personally.

I have a 5 inch barrel one. It kicks like a .44 magnum due to the compensator. Its deadly accurate. You would have to either A. Lack money. B. Lack skill or C. Be stupid, to carry a .357 for bear defense over this. Probiliy 1st time shooting too. Takes a bit to build up tolerance.

Not trying to be a jerk, so please take this in the manner it's intended, which is one of trying to help you with your gun.
As much as anything, the problem was in your form. You had your elbows not only locked, but over extended, which is terrible form for a handgun, made even worse by the high recoil of a .460. You need to hold it with your elbows slightly bent inward, so that your arms in effect act as a shock absorber and help take up the recoil. You would find the gun much less harsh.

This gun is not typically a "plinker". Nevertheless, every now and then, we have to make a significant dollar purchase on ammunition and throw it away somewhat uselessly. But then again, it is not really useless, is it?
Damn, your shooting form is terrible man. Also, it doesn't seem like you could possibly tell what was on the other side of those reeds. Maybe that's your private land but it's hard to tell from the video.
Just a FYI for any inexperienced shooters out there, the bullet is actually the small tip. (The part that comes flying out the barrel) The rest is the cartridge filled with powder to propel the bullet. The reason it's a long cartridge is because it's relatively skinny. Not an "intimidating" round.

@lovesara850 It is painful I shot one 4yrs ago and never shot another one again, if u don't have a strong enough wrist and hand, it would put a beaitng on it, alot of punishment there he's taking. This gun is actually for bears and other wild animals if u live where there are bears etc. That would be the only time I'll shoot this, if a bear or boar is charging me. I'll stick with my 357 or 44 magnum.
A gun like that is kind of pointless unless you're Rambo, you'd have to hit with the first round or you're fucked against a semi-auto, really. Nice ass gun, but way to damn big for personal protection... Would be great for hog and bear hunting though...

This weapon fires a .460 inch diameter bullet. It is not possible to argue a .375 inch diameter bullet is larger, you saw how long the bullet he fired was, the gun is practically a rifle.
you better save the brass, even if you don't reload, someone will but that brass for a dollar a piece. theres a ratio, if you pay aroudn a dollar per round, you get around 50 cents per casing.

see, i fired my colt gov. 1911 .45 accidently in my room (wich is a small and undersized exemplar compared to the 460 wtf! ) and it was like somebody took 2 big mauls smashing them on both of my ears at the same time.

@RoyalAlba1 No pistol round will take someone down first shot no matter what. With good shot placement, the .460 S&W will inflict serious damage, no doubt. This gun could be an excellent HD gun if you are accurate with it. The only drawback is round capacity. Also the expensive rounds do not allow much practice i.e. accuracy.
Many people will tell you that a 12gauge is the best HD gun, but I disagree. I'd rather use a high powered semi-auto rifle, but that's just my opinion.
Id take my .357 mag over that. hes half scared to shoot it, it has five rounds, and its really expensive to shoot. id rather have 6 well placed smaller bullets on a bear than 5 really scary bangs that go everywhere!
@drinkinmonster I agree 100% I love the .357 magnum and I own one. Its fun to shoot and in my opinon plenty powerful for anything I would ever run into.
@drinkinmonster After firing one of these, its accuracy trumps any .357 mag i've encountered :p the 460/500 mag are also loud and the shockwave threatening enough to scare most bears off without even needing to hit the bear with a bullet
@thezach01 You CAN shoot all those calibers out of it, but after a period of time your rifling is going to be damn near gone. Especially firing the .410. Not exactly positive on how the others will work, but I own a .357 (which shoots .38's obviously) and 2 firearms experts told me that over time shooting ANY round other than what your gun is designed for, will have negative affects whether it be destroying the rifling or barrel entry. A friend also told me firing pin, but I doubt that.
@Krause12689 Its perfectly safe for the gun to shoot .454 casull and .45 colt. Dont think .410 is recomended due to distance from forcing cone but not sure.
I think I'll just keep shooting my 357. Make chunks out of bowling balls at 100yrds and I can still pick my nose without poking my eye out after a day at the range.
I agree, I love revolvers, they aren't normally as accurate and don't hold as many rounds but they are way more powerful than any handgun and never jam

why would you recommend a .500 over the .460. Check the ballistics. A .460 XVR is far superior to the .500. If the gun kicks to much using the .460 try a 454 casull round or even plink around with a .45 colt round. That is the best thing about the .460 is that is will shoot all of these rounds.

@TAXtheAtheist Ballistic wise, the 500 offers more kinetic energy downrange. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction (more recoil as well). The 460 is the fastest production pistol cartridge on the market. The 460 offers WAY more accuracy than the 500 to top it off. 500= short range, most knockdown.
460= fastest handgun caliber ever, accurate on deer at 200 yards with open sights, less recoil, more versatile. I'm gonna be gettin a 460 in the next year.

This weapon fires a .460 inch diameter bullet. It is not possible to argue a .375 inch diameter bullet is larger, you saw how long the bullet he fired was, the gun is practically a rifle.

you better save the brass, even if you don't reload, someone will but that brass for a dollar a piece. theres a ratio, if you pay aroudn a dollar per round, you get around 50 cents per casing.

see, i fired my colt gov. 1911 .45 accidently in my room (wich is a small and undersized exemplar compared to the 460 wtf! ) and it was like somebody took 2 big mauls smashing them on both of my ears at the same time.

@RoyalAlba1 No pistol round will take someone down first shot no matter what. With good shot placement, the .460 S&W will inflict serious damage, no doubt. This gun could be an excellent HD gun if you are accurate with it. The only drawback is round capacity. Also the expensive rounds do not allow much practice i.e. accuracy.
Many people will tell you that a 12gauge is the best HD gun, but I disagree. I'd rather use a high powered semi-auto rifle, but that's just my opinion.

Id take my .357 mag over that. hes half scared to shoot it, it has five rounds, and its really expensive to shoot. id rather have 6 well placed smaller bullets on a bear than 5 really scary bangs that go everywhere!

@drinkinmonster After firing one of these, its accuracy trumps any .357 mag i've encountered :p the 460/500 mag are also loud and the shockwave threatening enough to scare most bears off without even needing to hit the bear with a bullet

@thezach01 You CAN shoot all those calibers out of it, but after a period of time your rifling is going to be damn near gone. Especially firing the .410. Not exactly positive on how the others will work, but I own a .357 (which shoots .38's obviously) and 2 firearms experts told me that over time shooting ANY round other than what your gun is designed for, will have negative affects whether it be destroying the rifling or barrel entry. A friend also told me firing pin, but I doubt that.

@Krause12689 Its perfectly safe for the gun to shoot .454 casull and .45 colt. Dont think .410 is recomended due to distance from forcing cone but not sure.

I think I'll just keep shooting my 357. Make chunks out of bowling balls at 100yrds and I can still pick my nose without poking my eye out after a day at the range.

why would you recommend a .500 over the .460. Check the ballistics. A .460 XVR is far superior to the .500. If the gun kicks to much using the .460 try a 454 casull round or even plink around with a .45 colt round. That is the best thing about the .460 is that is will shoot all of these rounds.

@TAXtheAtheist Ballistic wise, the 500 offers more kinetic energy downrange. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction (more recoil as well). The 460 is the fastest production pistol cartridge on the market. The 460 offers WAY more accuracy than the 500 to top it off. 500= short range, most knockdown.
460= fastest handgun caliber ever, accurate on deer at 200 yards with open sights, less recoil, more versatile. I'm gonna be gettin a 460 in the next year.
