@goodmediaproductions Both career are good - I happen to be in structural engineering & I enjoy it although it's never really easy. Think 20 or even 30 years from now what role or work you'd be doing. If you still can't make a decision, then think 'risk' - in graphic design, no real risk is evident but structural engineering is full of it :)

hi maijib2009. im currently focusing on structural engineering and to honest with you, structural is the hardest area of civil e. u have to be well prepared/compative as well as intelligent. now aday structural engineers are expected to be very knowledgeable. so planning in to master degree is necessary. this is my plan after i finish undergraduate in spring 2010.

He said to determine the degree of statically determinancy we have to subract the number of equilibrium equations by the number of unknowns forces. Is it not the other way round?

No. when you have a degree of indetermination by performing subtraction of unknowned forces to the number of equation, if you do not have suficent equation you won't be able to calculate the structure "directly".

The degree of indetermination will be negative!!!!
